Crested Butte Harvest Festival Vinotok this Weekend.  Already today, as I sat outside Pitas in Paradise at lunch time there were various characters walking around in costume in anticipation of the festivities which have already begun.  I missed Story Telling and Liar's Night but will definitely be on hand for the burning of the Grump. Burning the Grump, along with everyone's grumps and complaints which have been collected in several boxes about town will cleanse us of any "bad" or unwanted feelings and start the season off fresh, ready for fall and a winter full of skiing.  Crested Butte is a whimsical, friendly community with lots of unique celebrations that are embraced by the community.  Vinotok, I have heard, is a throwback to the Croatian Fall Festival, which is where many of the o...

Fall Foliage for Crested Butte, Colorado ... yes, that time is nearly here!  I started checking out the development of our fantastic Crested Butte Fall Foliage last week, when a few aspens here and there were showing signs of beginning to turn golden.  A week later and there is more gold to be seen, on the edges of most of the aspen groves.  There is still plenty of green though and my expectation is that the real Crested Butte fall foliage season will begin in about a week or so. My husband and I hiked the Upper Loop - Tony's Trail from Crested Butte to the base of Mount Crested Butte on our way to the Fall Festival: Brews & Chili-Cook-Off, which was a blast with sunshine and good food and beer, live music!  We took some photos along the way to give you an idea.  I hope you enjoy them....

Crested Butte Real Estate Sales Market Update & Information for August 2009.  It has been an excellent month for Crested Butte real estate and home sales.  There are certainly signs that buyers are recognizing great values and making investment and lifestyle decisions that go hand-in-hand.  Clearly the purchase of a fabulous, well-priced Crested Butte Vacation Home will provide more long term pleasure for you and your family than a stock portfolio.  Don't get me wrong, a strong stock portfolio is a wonderful thing.  Yet, it is even more wonderful to have a diversified portfolio that includes real estate, especially when that real estate is at the gateway of skiing, hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, golf, fishing and 2 million acres of open space to play in! August 2009 saw 27 p...

Julie & Julia - The Movie - Playing at the Majestic Theatre in Crested Butte.  The timing was perfect ... after a beautiful morning spent tasting and buying amazing, fresh, organic produce at the Crested Butte Farmers' Market, clouds rolled in and produced a short but dynamic rainstorm.  Enough to get us off our bikes and to the matinee to see Julie & Julia.  What a wonderful little movie!  As a fan of the French (I know not everyone is) and lover of food (most everyone is), this was an entertaining and somewhat educational movie.  I have been known to add "I love to eat" to my interests so I was really pleased that Julia Child stated that was what she truly loved to do.  What an amazing, truly unique american woman.  She was full of life and energy, and an inspiration to any of us who ...

Good day from Crested Butte! Mid-summer real estate sales activity in Crested Butte picked up enough to give our market a very important "shot in the arm" confidence booster. We limped into the historically busy summer selling season after a dismal end to 2008 and first half of 2009. Our market was down almost 65% and by the end of May things were looking pretty grim for summertime sales. But, in July and August we experienced some very impressive buying activity particularly for luxury homes at the higher end of our market. Our market rebounded with July 2009 sales numbers actually doubling (over $13 million) that of July 2008 numbers ($6.3 million). The market is now down about 47% year-to-date compared to 2008. This is a moral victory considering where we were just a few months ago. ...

Hello from Crested Butte, The Crested Butte News published a front page article today on the state of our local real estate market. One local broker stated "Crested Butte seems to be viewed as the best value in the mountains right now. I would say that it has been rough for a while, but if we aren't at the bottom of the market, we are leveling off."So far this year, about $30 million in real estate has sold at this end of the valley. About the same amount is pending at the moment, but in the last three weeks, another $17 million in local real estate was put under contract. "There has been a major uptick in the volume of sales and the amount of money people are spending," said a broker at Coldwell Banker Bighorn Realty. "We are hoping for more such activity during the rest of the summer....

Last week my friends Allison and Tracy and I hiked to Aspen from Crested Butte, Colorado ... and back!  We left from Schofield, near Emerald Lake and hiked up about 5 miles through waist-high wildflowers to the top of the Maroon Bells where we enjoyed lunch accompanied by lovely wine.  The next 7 miles was mostly downhill with beautiful, changing scenery.          The weather was perfect.  Light, fluffy clouds, sunshine and a light breeze.  Needless to say we went thru a bit of sunscreen :-). Just near Crater Lake there is a shuttle that takes you to Aspen.  Hahhhh, what a pretty town ... Pacifico was our spot of choice for fresh seafood and fresher mojicos.  Yum!         The next day we had the hotel shuttle us back to the trailhead for the return trip.  I had thought it would be hard...

The luxury real estate market has come alive in the Butte with a record breaking deal. Last week a single family home on 4th Street in Crested Butte sold for just over $2 million dollars.  This is the highest sale price for a single family home in town and it comes after a very slow start for homes sales during the first half of 2009. Other notable luxury home deals include a $1.7 million Butte Avenue home that is under contract and a Gothic Avenue house listed at $1,495,000 is also under contract. Over on Ruth's Road, a home listed for $975,000 has a sale pending. Out at the Skyland neighborhood, a Lake Grant luxury home listed for almost $2.3 million is under contract and two larger townhomes listed between $795,000 and $900,000 in Mt. Crested Butte's Pinnacle's development are under ...

I drove by the Blue Mesa Reservoir west of Gunnison last week and I am happy to report the "Mesa" was full to her banks and fishermen's boats dotted the expansive waters of this local recreational prize. I was on my way to the Bootjack Ranch in Pagosa Springs to preview an incredible ranch property listed by Sotheby's International Realty. Methinks you just ride your horse on in! About the photo: The house is located in Crested Butte a mountain town in Colorado where the entire town is a historic district.  Crested Butte is also named, "The Wild Flower Capital of Colorado."  If you are wanting to find it on a map look in southwest Colorado, it's just north of Gunnison by about 20 miles. Or find Aspen and Crested Butte is sw over the mountain. The town has a distinct personality, very family friendly, sports oriented place. While we were there, the townsfolk played baseball everynight on 3 different ball parks.  Now that might not seem so unusual, but this is at 8085 feet above sea level.  For some (like me) just walking and talking (without getting winded) was a feat! They also have a delightful custom of using bicycles ...
