Greetings from CB,Wow! What a ski season! With the addition of Crested Butte to Vail Resort’s Epic Pass this year, skiers (actually many skiers) from all over visited us for the first time. I think the resort put on a pretty good show. Almost 200 inches of snow fell after February 1 creating dreamy ski conditions all over the mountain. It is a true blessing from Mother Nature now and for our immediate future. The area rivers, lakes and reservoirs should all benefit from what I assume will be a very robust spring and summer run off.OUR REAL ESTATE MARKETIn 2019, the snow totals skyrocketed but our local real estate market cooled a bit. Peaks & Valleys - February 2019Greetings from Snowy Crested Butte!When I explain our local real estate economy to inquiring minds I tend to use the "peaks and valleys" metaphor. When you hike, bike, or ski around here you are either going up or going down. Sometimes you hit a flat section but not for very long. Gunnison Valley's real estate market (and our economy) is no different.When Triple Peaks purchased the ski resort in 2004 real estate and tourism were at the bottom of a valley. Before they took over the resort, it was just a friends and family real estate marketplace. People bought houses or built something new because they already had a deep connection to the valley and simply needed a roof over their heads. One of our better starts to a ski season, Crested Butte Mountain Resort has received 81" of snow so far and the skiing has been fantastic during the holidays.The 2018 real estate market in Crested Butte is also blessed. Why? Sales volume was steady but activity included a serious sprinkling of impressive sales price records thrown in to spice things up. With comparable sales numbers to 2017, our local market continues to perform.
