Colorado has a small moose population that is growing.  Typically the few moose that we have can be found on the Western Slope or the West side of the Continental Divide if you know where to look.  Occasionally over the past few years we have had some bulls that wander over to the Eastern side of the Continental Divide looking for love.  Once they figure out they are lost they typically head back up the Poudre Canyon for the West side. Recently we have had some sightings of some moose around Estes Park.  This cow along with her calf have been wandering around town.  The first sighting I heard of was by the big slide at 7:00 AM on Sunday morning.  The next day by the Catholic Church and moving North.  I captured this shot while the cow and her calf were resting at the MacGregor Ranch Nor...

Fresh snow on the Continental Divide highlighted by the fall foliage of the trees in this picture is really a great way to start the day.  When you live in Estes Park Colorado you get to do this every day. At the end of the day there is a peacefulness that comes with the blanket of clouds and the rose color of the setting sun. Have a great day.

I've heard a lot of people talk about lucky.  How lucky they are or how lucky a friend was.  Geeze, I won $10.00 on a scratch ticket, I'm so lucky. We have a saying here in Estes Park.  If you're lucky enough to live in the mountains - You're lucky enough.  Every day is special here and you can see by the picture we aren't the only ones that think so.  I was going to retire to my dream retirement location one day and retire in Estes Park, Colorado.  What if I don't live that long, what if I don't make it, what if the path changes?  Good enough questions for me to just pick up stakes and move.  Oh, I found a job later that wasn't the primary consideration. There have certainly been no regrets and I do feel lucky every day. Have a great day.

The Peak to Peak Highway and the area around Allenspark is absolutely beautiful right now.  The leaves in Rocky Mountain National Park will probably be peaking this weekend just in time for Elk Fest. Aspens surrounding the Visitors Center at Lilly Lake Driving to and from Allenspark the colors are breathtaking.  If you aren't taking the time to go to the Meadow Mountain Cafe to eat and enjoy the drive, you should be. Blanket of Aspens in front of Mount Meeker  If you have your camera, it is very difficult to make any kind of time on the drive because you are always stopped taking pictures. View of Long's Peak through the Aspens I have sometimes referred to the weather on particular days as being a "Chamber of Commerce" day.  We say that because it just doesn't get any better.  This wee...

Just a quick update on the Estes Park, Colorado upcoming Elk Fest and our "Fine" Fall weather.  I was talking to a very nice lady at the Hallmark store yesterday and she said that this is the best fall weather we have had in 78 years. Two Bulls in combat These two gentlemen are having a discussion about which one of  them is going to be successful and be the bull that gets herd of cows that is standing nearby. Magnificent 7X7 Bull Elk What they hadn't discussed yet, is that the winner of this little match gets to tangle horns with this seven by seven bull that seems to think all of the ladies in this herd belong to him. Come on up, the weather is fine. Hope you had a great weekend - we did.

We were experiencing some warm weather this week, and it finally cooled off.  When I went to lunch today it really cooled off, suddenly to 61 degrees.  We typically don't get hail in Estes Park, but today was the exception. Hail Outside the Prudential Office High Altitude Hail I really couldn't believe that we actually had some 1/2 inch hail that was solid.  Typically we get something in the 1/4 inch range that is nothing more than slush.  This was actual hard frozen hail - very unusual for Estes Park. Prudential Parking Lot   Have a great day!

Estes Park is abounding with new babies this time of year and of course the elk are adding to the population along with all of our other animals. I'm sure that most of you had a great 4th of July wherever you celebrated.  Estes Park of course is very special on the 4th of July with their celebration.  I hope you enjoy the picture and have a great day.
