Living in Highlands Ranch: HRCA Taking Memberships I was a little surprised to read an article in the Highlands Ranch Herald this week that the HRCA is now taking memberships from those outside of the Highlands Ranch HOA boundaries for membership.  You can read that article here. Its not the idea that surprised me, I have heard this idea kicked around in thought speculation for some time now.  But I was surprised that it has started so soon.  HRCA has begun a program that they are offering up to 200 memberships for people to join. Highlands Ranch is almost built out - that is no surprise.  So at some point in the non so distant future homeowners dues will come in from existing homes only and growth will no longer be an issue.  So increasing revenue without memberships would really only... 09/27/2008

Garbage out, Garbage in - Trash Removal in Highlands Ranch CO Waste Management is contracted for trash removal services in Highlands Ranch CO. Recycling services are included but they have to be set up so the recycling driver can add your address on his route. If you are moving to a new home in Highlands Ranch, you will receive a trash container within two weeks of moving in. This trash container is to stay with the property, even if/when you sell it. To get the recycling bins there is a small one time fee and then the bins are yours to keep. I set out on a mission to discover what types of projects our elementary schools here in Highlands Ranch are planning this year for raising funds.  My purpose was to be able to give recognition on my blog to those schools that I feel have the most innovative projects.  In researching, I discovered that communication from the schools to parents and the public about these projects varied greatly from school to school.  I utilized the websites of the schools to get my information.  I chose this method as a more efficient way of gathering this inform- ation since I do not have contacts at 95% of the schools.   Here is what I discovered.  Most of the websites have very little or no information about the school's fundraisers.  Most of the information on fundraising was to be found in the news... 09/12/2008

Fit in Highlands Ranch CO - 5K RUN - Octorbefest 5K Highlands Ranch Community association is organizing a 5K run - Octoberfest 5K Sept 13th. The run starts from and ends at Highlands Ranch town center. After the event there will be some "post-race" activities, including some give-aways and food (food always tastes good after a good race). This Octoberfest 5K is part of the Highlands Ranch Run Series and as is their tradition there will be a 100 yard dash at the end of the race. This is an extra 100 yard sprint at the end of the 5K. Highlands Ranch CO Events - it's first time for everything 1st EVER European Festival at Highlands Ranch Towncenter Something new is happening in the Highlands Ranch Town Center/Civic Green Park on Sept. 7th 2008.  The FIRST EVER Colorado European Festival has arrived to Highlands Ranch Colorado. The whole day event is full of performances and festivities from several European Countries including Russia, Hungary and Poland. Highlands Ranch CO - Playgrounds and Parks - Spotlight on Northridge Park Highlands Ranch Colorado has many playgrounds and parks to choose from, which is great at least from my son's perspective. Today the spotlight is on Northridge Park in Highlands Ranch CO. The Northridge Park is tucked in behind the Northridge Recreation Center south of C-470 and just east of Broadway Blvd. The Park is one of the largest in Highlands Ranch at 33 acres. The park offers variety of things to do, which is probably why it is favored by many children. This is an exciting week coming up for Highlands Ranch - the annual festivities of Highlands Ranch Days are just around the corner.  What is Highlands Ranch Days?  Well, long ago, before Highlands Ranch was a community of homes, it was a ranch.  And Highlands Ranch days is a chance for the community to see inside the mansion of the original Highlands Ranch and see the working ranch that still exists.  Festivities and events begin on Thursday September 4th and will continue through Saturday the 6th of September. Since I have become a dog owner in May, I tend to notice more dog related things lately.  And here's another. They are building a new Wag N' Wash Healthy Pet Center in Highlands Ranch - a place where I can bathe my dog without stinking up the tub.  Not bad! The Wag N Wash will be in the King Soopers Shopping Center at the Corner of Highlands Ranch Parkway and Wildcat Reserve Parkway.  According to the web site, the Wag N' Wash in Highlands Ranch will be opening this fall.  I am not certain of the exact date, but it seems to be moving along. By now you have seen it, there are some new businesses that are coming to Town Center in Highlands Ranch at the corner of Lucent and Highlands Ranch Parkway.  From what I can tell - here's what we've got. Indulge Wine Bar - I was contacted back in April by one of the owners letting me know that Indulge Wine Bar was coming.  While I still am uncertain of the opening date, the web site says late 2008. I remember hearing about an outdoor patio and tapas, that will be nice. Chase Bank - Lots of banks in town, but there will be another here.  Corner Bakery Cafe - This looks good too - Again I don't know much about this although I have eaten at the one downtown at the Denver Pavilions on the 16th street mall.  As I recall, I had a great sandwich.
