After nearly 3 months for my children to play in all of the pools of the Highlands Ranch Community Association, I asked my children this morning which were their favorites this year.  You have just a few days, and in the case of Westridge - today, to enjoy the outdoor pools.  Here is my kids recap: Both of the kids loved the Eastridge Outdoor Pool.  First place no doubt.  It seemed to have the most options, with a bit deeper water, possibilities for lap swimming, racing each other down the side by side slides and then escaping indoors for the giant slide. Neither was willing to put the Northridge pool at the top of the list - they said it was great when they were a bit younger as the kiddie pool was better than most but they felt that the teenagers "own" the Northridge pool, so they wou...

Today I want to talk about and show you a small pocket of the Highlands Ranch real estate market in Westridge Pointe.  In fact - I am going to divide it out even further and just show you the far north west corner of Westridge Pointe - including the streets of High Cliffe Pl, the Hackberrys, the Golden Eagles and Painted Canyon.  This section of the neighborhood includes homes all built by Richmond American Homes and most were finished being built by 2001. The real estate in Highlands Ranch overall is holding steady.  There are some areas that have done better than others and all in all, Westridge Pointe, particularly this pocket of it is about the same. The rule of thumb still remains, the best properties with the best locations that are priced accurately will sell first.  Many of thes...

Firelight is a community in Highlands Ranch, CO. Located in the Southridge area - Firelight is known for its higher location - some of the homes are actually on the highest lots in Highlands Ranch.  This of course provides really terrific views form many homes in Firelight of both the front range and downtown Denver.  Some folks even enjoy the sparser twinkling of the Denver Tech Center. But one of the really nice parts of Firelight is its proximity to the Back Country Wildnerness Open Space.  The homes that back to The Back Country Wildneress truly are something to see.  You look out back, and there it is.  Colorado.  Its not your average open space - its really something else.  It has rugged hills and valleys that leave you to feel that you are light years away from the hustle and bus...

I posted early in the week and the Highlands Ranch Computers & Electronics Recycling Event is going on right now.  The event is free (small charge for televisions). I brought my stuff over this morning and it was quite impressive.  So much STUFF.  I brought an old printer, some phones and an old broken PDA. The recycling event goes on until 1pm - don't miss it, head over now - it could be at least 6 months or so before the next one.    New Listings in Highlands Ranch, Colorado     Steve Scheer, RE/MAX Masters, Inc. Its the time of year to recycle your electronic and computers.  The HRCA routinely organizes this event and it couldn't be coming at a better time for me.  We did have one CPU go "Poof" this year - so it is a great opportunity to get rid of it and out of my house - in proper & safe way. The event is free, however this time around optional donations that are suggested at $20 will be taken for the Highlands Ranch Community Scholarship Fund or the Highlands Ranch Cultural Association.   There is a nominal fee of $15 to recycle small televisions and $30 for large ones. The computers and Electronic Recycle Event will take place in Highlands Ranch Town Center (Highlands Ranch Pkway & Dorchester) on August 23rd from 9am - 3pm.  Its really quite a sight to see everything that is collected.  I h...

Highlands Ranch Pets - Coyotes and Pets - not a good combination It has been said before, but there are numerous pets in Highlands Ranch Colorado. And there are also large open areas and within these open areas there are large numbers of coyotes. Recently we have received reports of lost pets (to HighlandsRanchPets.com) and heard of numerous pets, especially cats being lost (including our own Isis). We have seen Coyote Road Kill and have chatted with neighbors (specifically those that live near the open areas) in Highlands Ranch. They say, they see coyotes with cats and bunnies in their mouths daily.  There are also plenty of bunnies to go around. So the coyotes have lots of food. The Coyotes are also known to venture close to homes and look for food. Having said that... We do live with...

Living in Highlands Ranch, CO - Dog Daze of Summer This Saturday, 8/16 the Dog Daze of Summer will be held at on the east side of Redstone Park - just across from Rover's Run. Personally I am a bit excited about the event - for years I have driven by this annual doggy party as I live very close to Rover's Run - but now this year we have a dog  - so we will be there as well to see what its all about.  I can tell you this, I know my dog is going to love it. It looks like there will be various vendors with treats for your dog as well as some competitions for tricks.  I don't think we are ready for that, but I know we will enjoy watching the Douglas County Sheriff's K9 demonstrations.  I have seen them before, and it is really quite amazing. Here's the details: Saturday, August 16th 9 am - ...

Highlands Ranch Dog Parks - Rover’s Run at Redstone Park Here is a Highlands Ranch Dog Park that is located on the Western side of Highlands Ranch. Rover's Run is located east of Redstone Park near the intersection of Town Center Dr. and Foothills Canyon Blvd. Rover's Run Dog Park in Highlands Ranch is a smaller enclosed park area with picnic tables for you to sit and relax while your four legged friend is having a blast running around the park. There's also a fire hydrant in the park for your dog to leave their mark! The park is often less busy than e.g. the Hound Hill Dog Park on the Eastern side of Highlands Ranch, which can get really busy, especially in the cooler evenings. This is great news so the dogs have plenty of room to sniff around and have a good time. There are many trail...

Have youth sports in America got out of control?  Many people think so.  I have coached both recreational sports and highly competative sports.  With over 20 years coaching experiance I would love to hear from others on their thoughts.  Some of the issues I would like to discuss are: 1. Is there an age where kids should be "strongly encouraged" to just focus on one sport? 2. Should 12 and under children be cut from teams in an effort to create the elite of the elite teams?  What does that do to a childs self esteem? 3.  How much is too much?  How many games is enough in one year?  Is it too much to have a 10 year old play 65 baseball, basketball, soccer, softball games in one year? 4.  Which is better for our children Recreational Sports vs Competative Sports? Would love a little feedba...

There are a few neighborhoods adjacent to Highlands Ranch that offer some confusions at times.  One of these, is Province Center.  It is very confusing because if you were only to look at a map, it does appear that it is in Highlands Ranch, but that is not the case.  Province Center is in fact not a part of Highlands Ranch and is instead considered Littleton, CO as far as a mailing address goes.  On this same site, Localism.com - you will find Province Center also listed in Littleton, CO for mailing addresses purposes.  I have run into several people over the years that have attested to the fact that they too were under the impression at one point or another that Province Center was a part of Highlands Ranch. Its important to know either way - some people want to live truly "inside" of ...
