Great Indoors goes bye bye in Lone Tree CO. For well over a decade the Great Indoors has been a great place to find all sorts of things for the home from building to improvement to decorating etc. I was shocked to say the least when I was near there over the weekend only to see someone on the corner holding a "Going out of business" sign and it then mentioned for The Great Indoors!?!? Of course I had to stop over there and to my surprise not only was there still a good deal of items available but everything and I mean everything is reduced on pricing and they are even selling all their fixture/display items! Some items are well over 50% off and while many of the best items are gone they still have a wide range of heavily discounted items that are going to give some a sensational deal. S...

If you happen to be visiting or fortunate enough to live in beautiful Highlands Ranch CO one of the Sunday deals to be found is located in nearby Lone Tree at the 12 plex movie theaters. Sundays only you can actually see a movie without breaking the bank. $5 admission and that includes all shows all day "Sundays Only" So I am now being harassed by my kids that since there is no school tomorrow I have to take them to the movies. Hmm well nothing looks that great so it may be Star Wars 3D?   Enjoy your evening and catch a show with your kids or family or friends too.   Peace

When searching for a home in the Denver suburbs, school boundaries are sometimes a very important qualifier for the search location. While Colorado is an open enrollment state, the opportunity to enroll children at any public school only exists if there is room. Some schools are at or near capacity, and living within the school's geographic boundaries can sometimes be the only or best way to be certain of enrollment. Additionally, if you do not live within the school boundaries, school bus will not be a transportation option for you. Eagle Ridge Elementary is a K - 6 school in Highlands Ranch, also serving Lone Tree and a very small part of western Parker and is a part of the Douglas County School District. Eagle Ridge is on the modified school calendar, which is similar to a traditiona...

When searching for a home in the Denver suburbs, school boundaries are sometimes a very important qualifier for the search location. The Douglas County School District has 4 high schools located in Highlands Ranch, and Highlands Ranch High School is one of them. Highlands Ranch High School serves students in some of the north-east side neighborhoods of Highlands Ranch but also includes many of the Lone Tree neighborhoods. Kids that have Highlands Ranch High School as their home school generally feed from Cresthill Middle School which is located just next door to the high school. Colorado is an open enrollment state, and once a year Colorado residents have the opportunity to enroll their children at any public school if there is room. However some schools are at or near capacity, and liv...

Denver Relocation Info: And The Wild Winds Blow   There are 2 things I have found over the years about Denver winters that are surprising to my Denver relocation clients. #1) That we aren't always buried in cold & snow from November through March.  We covered that a bit lately, so I won't really cover that again today.  #2) The second being the wind.  When we get our warmer temps and the mountains are getting a good deal of snow, it can tend to be very windy here on the front range.  I am not meteorologist by any means so I won't bore you with the science of it - but it is part of what keeps us dry and relatively warm.  Is it windy every day in the winter?  No.  But there can be some that are a bit more windy than others and perhaps beyond comfort of wanting to hang outside all day.  To...

The past few weeks it seems the country has been having extreme weather.  Freezing temps in Scottsdale alarm and entertain residents as their fountains turn to ice. At the Super Bowl in Texas they are dealing with cold unlike they have seen in recent years. Chicago officials had to rescue people on Lake Shore Drive using snowmobiles!  Finally Denver got a taste of winter as our temps dropped well below freezing for a few nights in a row.  Now the snow flakes are falling leaving the beauty of innocent snow covering the land. All the while the conversation on Twitter, Facebook and on the street, people are talking.  People who might otherwise have nothing to say to one another, are being friendly having discourse on you guessed it, the weather! (About the Photo:  Taken this week at the en...

5 Places To Watch The Super Bowl in the South Denver Suburbs Here we are, Super Bowl weekend. The majority of the country is thawing out from deep freezes and blizzards and it is time for some football.  Watching the Bronco this season was far from fun, so I am ready to watch some really great football on Sunday.  Let's hope that happens.  And if it doesn't, there is always the commercials. Generally speaking, I tend to watch the Super Bowl annually with the same group of friends in a family room.  But if you would rather get out and about, yet stay in the area without heading into Denver, here are 5 places or sports bars to check out the big game in the south Denver suburbs. 1.  LoDo's - Highlands Ranch - Sound like there will be some snow and its still cold, so you won't be hanging ou...

Arctic cold temperatures descended upon Metro Denver today.  Last week I was rejoicing in 69 degree weather and now we are at 2 degrees and expected to fall below ZERO tonight and for the next few days! Burr! I got to spend the day in a nice warm court house, while doing my civic duty.  Yes, I finally won a lottery,  I get to be a juror this week! It was an interesting day to say the least.  We recessed early and on the way home while it was still daylight I noticed my favorite local homestead the Schweiger Homestead.   I enjoy watching this charming old ranch that is now being restored.  I've taken images of it in all seasons, but winter is probably my most favorite. It was snowing when I stopped my car to capture the scene.  Twice gentleman stopped to check on me to be sure everything...

I often receive emails asking questions I am sure others would like to know the answer to. This series will answer some of those questions. Denver Relocation: What Are My Options For Commuting Downtown From Denver Suburbs? I recently received an email from one of my Denver relocation clients, he was moving from a very large city where the subway was his main mode of transportation.  Although he had a car, did not use it often and was hoping to keep solo driving to a minimum.  Here's what he asked: Now that we have decided on the south Denver suburbs in Douglas or Arapahoe counties, can you give me an idea of what my commuting options will be to my job in downtown Denver?  Here's my answer: There are several options for you to get to work downtown.  From our conversations, it sounds like...

Yesterday I attended the 2nd annual Rocky Mountain Writers Summit.  It was a free event for all types of aspiring authors.  I attended out of curiosity and my business reason was to potentially write books about real estate to enhance my business.  There is always that sneaky suspicion or desire to write a real book.  This was a free event.  You were encourage to give a $5 donation for Habitat for Humanity, of course I did.  I was real curious to see the attendance and the type of people who were there. This photo was taken between sessions and it was a packed house.  It gave me several ideas on how to help my real estate business. The pain and setbacks we go through as real estate agents is nothing compared to what these writers go through.  For us that one listing that is not selling ...

I've spoken a bit recently about Open Enrollment and School of Choice in Colorado but there is another school related deadline coming up that you need to be aware of if you have young ones and you have recently moved to Douglas County. Kindergarten Enrollment is generally in January for the following year, and that is no exception for 2011 - 2012 school year. Douglas County School District holds kindergarten enrollment at each school, all at their own times that range from 1/10 - 1/31. There is a list of required paper work that you need to bring with you including proof of residency, immunization and birth date records.  Check with the DCSD or individual school for exact requirements.  You can find a list of all dates and times on the web site - look for the scrolling newsline on the r...
