Last Saturday (August 25, 2007) my kids and I joined our friends in the 2007 Buddy Walk, in Manitou Springs, Colorado - Organized by the Colorado Springs Down Syndrome Association (CSDSA). I believe that there were a couple thousand people joining us on our 3 mile hike around Manitou Springs, and to date they have raised $101,690 ... Wow!! Manitou Springs is a beautiful town, just west of Colorado Springs and nestled in the Rocky Mountain Foothills. We all started at Memorial Park and continued down Lovers' Lane, up Park Avenue, all down Manitou Avenue and looped back up El Paso back to Memorial Park, where everyone could eat and enjoy all kinds of entertanment. My 4 year old walked the entire time, and my older one loved getting folks that were driving by to HONK to show their support.... 08/29/2007

Manitou Springs, an eclectic suburb located to the west of Colorado Springs is taking charge of their impact on the environment. The Metropolitan Parking District voted Thursday to offer free parking for hybrids in the two city parking lots as move made by other cities like: Aspen, Los Angeles, Salt Lake City, San Antonio, Albuquerque, New Haven, Conn., San Jose and Santa Monica, Calif. The free-parking offer comes three months after Manitou City Council members voted to inventory the city's ecological footprint and do what it can to reduce greenhouse-gas emissions. Manitou also has joined a group of other cities pushing for climate protection. Located just 4 miles west of Colorado Springs, Manitou Springs is just south of the popular destination Garden of the Gods. The definition of Manitou Springs is "Sacred Springs". Historically, Native American tribes lived here and considered this area sacred. Tribes that frequented Manitou were the Ute, Arapaho, Cheyenne and the Kiowa. Ok, so the Mission Bell Inn is technically not quite in Colorado Springs.
