School Craft Fairs are a excellent way to show support for local schools, and this Saturday is an opportunity to do just that by stopping by the 2014 Conginchaug Regional High School Holiday Craft Fair.  School Craft Fairs are also a great way to find Christmas gifts for those hard to buy for people. I still remember when my two sons were in school, my wife and I would spend our day helping to set up, man a booth, and then help take down things at the end of the day.  It was a lot of work, but it never seemed like work, it was fun.  Now we get to just go and enjoy the Craft Fairs we use to assist at. If you are near Conginchaug Regional High School in Durham, CT. on Saturday stop in, and support the kids by making a small purchase.  You will not only be supporting the kids, but feelin...

This year was a Very Special Durham Fair for me.  I did a blog early last week about the Durham Fair going on this past weekend.  Saturday I got to go to the Durham Fair with my wife Renee, oldest son Matthew, daughter in-law Ashley, and my gorgeous grand daughter Elizabeth.  It was the first Durham Fair for Elizabeth, she could not take her eyes off all the people at the Fair, and everything going on around her.  It is remarkable at how alert she is at just 11 weeks.  She wants to see everything, even though her eyesight is still developing at this age.  She loved the Llamas so I wanted to take the picture above with her, and one of her favorite Llamas who came right up to us. There is no parking on the Fair Grounds, so the best way to get to the Durham Fair is to park at one of two...

The Durham Fair is this weekend and I am really looking forward to going this year, because I get to take my beautiful grand daughter Elizabeth to see all of the different animals at the 2014 Durham Fair.  The Durham Fair always draws a big crowd, and this weekend is sure to have a very large turnout.  I am not sure what day we will go, but it will most likely be Saturday so we can see some of the daytime activities like the tracker pull and cow pull, and so it will not be to late for Elizabeth. The Durham Fair was started in 1916, and is now the largest agricultural fair in Connecticut.  Through the years the Durham Fair has contributed in many ways to the Durham community, such as:  Awarded over $500,000 in academic scholarships since 1966? Made charitable donations totaling over $...

Fall has arrived and that means the leaves will begin to change very soon.  This is also the time of the year to visit all the area Pumpkin Patches, Corn Mazes, and Hayrides.  My first stop this year was yesterday at the 2014 Pumpkin Patch, Corn Maze & Hayride At Lyman Orchards in Middlefield, CT.  Lyman Orchards is the place to go for fresh fruit, and fresh baked pies, but Lyman Orchards also has a lot more to offer, especially in the Fall.  Lyman Orchards is located at the intersection of RT 146 and Rt 157 in Middlefield, Connecticut which makes Lyman Orchards very easy to get to from any where in the State. Lyman Orchards In Middlefield Connecticut was first established in 1741, and is the twelfth oldest family-owned business in the United States.  Lyman Orchards consists of 1,100...

Boy Scouts Troop 270 Baked Bean Supper Fundraiser In Durham, CT this Friday, August 15, at 6 p.m.  I have written a number of blogs in the past about the Boy Scouts, because they are an organization that is important to me.  Both of my sons are Eagle Scouts, and they obtained many skills during the years that they participated with our local Troop in Middletown, CT., which have helped them to grow into the men they are today. This is the second year Boy Scouts Troop 270 has been holding their Baked Bean Supper Fundraiser In Durham, CT.  The Baked Bean Supper Fundraiser was very well received last year so Boy Scouts Troop 270 is continuing it again this year. If you happen to be in the Durham, CT. area, this Friday, August 15, at 6 p.m at the corner of Main St and Rt 68, stop in, have a...

The 2014 Durham, CT 4-H Fair is going to be held at the Durham Fair Grounds this weekend.  This is a great opportunity for the whole family to do something together. I don't know if you have ever been to a 4-H Fair, but there is something of interest for everyone in the family. I don't think people think of agriculture when they think of Connecticut, but truth be know Connecticut has a number of working farms throughout the state, and Middlesex County has many more than people may be aware of.  I live in an area of Middletown known as South Farms, and within walking distance of my house there are at least four working farms. Some of the events and things to do at the 2014 Durham, CT 4-H Fair this year include: Several Farm Animals Silent Auction Dog Show Robotics Demonstrations Art ...

One of my absolute favorite specialty market to go is Lino's Market In Durham, Ct.   Lino's is the  place to go for all your deli, meat, catering, and specialty food needs.  Lino's also has the fantastic prepared food, soups, and the BEST chicken cutlet sandwiches you will have ever eaten.  Lino's Market In Durham, Ct. opened in 1994 at 472 Main Street in Durham, Ct. by Pasqualino Aparo (Lino) an American Italian and his family, and it is not unusual to see Lino at the stove doing much of the cooking. From the outside Lino's Market In Durham, Ct. may not seem like much, but OH how looks can be deceiving.  Once you step inside you will be treated to one of the best deli's that I have ever been to.  Everything is cooked fresh daily by Lino, and staff.  Everything is great there but my ...

The 2014 Durham Farmers Market are underway and will be held again this year on  every Thursday in May - September in front of the Durham Town Hall, and across from the Durham Post Office on Main Street in Durham, CT.  It is held right on the Durham Green, and there is ample parking. One of my favorite things about Summer is all of the Farmers Markets in the area, and the Durham Farmers Market is one of the better ones in my area.  The Durham Farmers Market offers up a variety of local grown fruits and vegetables, as well as home made baked goods. It is impossible to go to the Durham Farmers Market and not purchase more than originally planned, because everything their just looks so good. I would encourage all those in the area to stop by the 2014 Durham Farmers Market, and to bring ...

The 2013 Durham Farmers Market is held every Thursday in May - September in front of the Durham Town Hall, and across from the Durham Post Office on Main Street in Durham, CT.  It is held right on the Durham Green, and there is ample parking. The Durham Farmers Market offers up a variety of local grown fruits and vegetables, as well as home made baked goods.  There is also a Storyteller present to share a ready from favorite children's books.  On this day CL&P had a booth set up to share ways of how to conserve energy, and offer Home Energy Saving Audits.  I showed up to basically see what the Durham Farmers Market had to offer, and wound up spending more money than I intended to, because everything looked so good. I would encourage all those in the area to stop by the 2013 Durham Farm...

This was Durham Fair Weekend and as always rain or shine the Durham Fair draws a large crowd.  In the case of this weekend it was kind of half rain and half sun shine, which is typical for the Durham Fair. This year's Durham Fair was packed with activities for the whole family.  There was food, rides, exhibits, animal pulls, and the entertainment was excellent with Kenny Rogers performing Friday night and Kelly Pickler Saturday night. The Durham Fair was started in 1916, and is now the largest agricultural fair in Connecticut.  Through the years the Durham Fair has contributed in many ways to the Durham communinity, such as: Awarded over $500,000 in academic scholarships since 1966? 93rd Annual Durham Fair is Fast Approaching! The crown jewel of Connecticut's agricultural fairs, The Durham Fair, turns 93 this year and shows no signs of slowing down! Founded in 1916, this is the largest agricultural fair held in Connecticut, and is also the largest fair in North America to operate without a paid manager or staff; all the workers are volunteers from various organizations, including schools, churches, and civic groups, as well as members of the Durham Agricultural Fair Association. Festivities kick off on September 27th at 4 PM, with a Demolition Derby scheduled for 7:30 that evening. Other planned activities include truck and tractor pulls, pie eating contests, kid’s races, various instructional events, and lots of livestock on display, plus some great live entertain...

Both of my sons are Eagle Scouts so when I see a local Boy Scout Troop holding an event I try to support it.  Yesterday on my through Durham, CT I saw the above sign announcing Boy Scouts Troop 270 Durham Ct Fundraiser this coming weekend, and it quickly caught my eye.  The Boy Scouts of America is a great organization that helps our young boys and men learn skills that will assist them throughout their lives.  The Boy Scouts of America thought my two sons leadership, and survival skill that will equipped them to handle situations that they will face throughout their lives.  The Boy Scouts of America teach our young men what it is to be a citizen and the duties that we need to fulfill as citizens.  The Boy Scouts of America teach our young men to be respectful of others as well as th...

It is never to early to start making plans for the next Middlesex Chamber Of Commerce Business After Work, and the next one will be at one of my favorite places, Lyman Orchards.  Lyman Orchards has several acres of different kinds and variety of fruit.  At Lyman Orchards you can either pick your own or visit their fantastic store. There you will not only be able to purchase amazing fresh fruit, but you will also find equally amazing goodies that are bake at the store.  I can not mention there baked goods without highlighting their pies that are out of this world.  Lyman Orchards also has an excellent golf course adjacent to the orchards, and the Business After Work is going to be at their new Golf Center.  This will be my first opportunity to visit their new Golf Center, so I am look...
