From my blog at www.GreenwichCT.com THING 78 – Gregg Allman at the Stamford Center for the Arts Sunday night at 7:30pm Gregg Allman will be performing at The Palace Theater at the Stamford Center for the Arts. I used to love the Allman Brothers, as well as Pink Floyd, Led Zep, etc…, but I guess I grew older and boring. For those of you who are still young at heart and don’t mind going out before the first day back at school , have a great time. You can find more information on the Stamford Center’s website - http://www.stamfordcenterforthearts.org/home.cfm

From my blog at www.GreenwichCT.com THING 74 – Polar Express on IMAX I’m not sure if I’ve ever actually seen the movie, but I really loved the book. That being said, I heard great things about the movie and love anything on IMAX. So if you are still trying to fill your days before you can send the kids back to school, this might be a good idea. • Date: 12:00pm Friday, December 17, 2010 to 12:00pm Sunday, January 2, 2011 • Place: The Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk • Price: Tickets are $6.50-$9 "The Polar Express" was the first feature film to be shot entirely in a new process, Performance Capture. In it, an actor’s live performance is digitized, becoming a human blueprint for creating virtual characters. Using this, Tom Hanks's performances became five characters in the film. Even if you'v...

For those of you who don’t have to work (like me, arg..) this sounds hilarious and fun: “The Bendheim Western Greenwich Civic Center will be transformed into a roller skating rink Wednesday, Dec. 29, for the Department of Parks and Recreation's Roller Skating Party. Sherry Kline runs the program at the Eastern Greenwich Civic Center and will be bringing it to Western Greenwich Civic Center, 449 Pemberwick Road. From my blog at www.GreenwichCT.com THING 72 – Movies at the Cos Cob Library This week the Cos Cob Library (5 Sinawoy Road) will be offering free movies for local kids. The movies all start at 3pm. You are allowed to bring light snacks. I figured that this would be a great way to get the kids out of the house for a couple hours during their break and possibly gain back some peace! Here’s a list of the movies: Tuesday, December 28 – My Neighbor Totoro Wednesday, December 29 – Free Willy: Escape from Pirate’s Cove Thursday, December 30 – Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory

From my blog at www.GreenwichCT.com THING 71 - Behind the Scenes at the Norwalk Aquarium For those of you who aren’t back at work and aren’t scared to leave your home – (I’d recommend calling to make sure they are open) “Holidays or no, the aquatic denizens of Norwalk's Maritime Aquarium don't care much about celebrating. But they do care about getting fed. On two days, Dec. 27 and 30, visitors can see how the Aquarium manages its very large daily responsibility for a wide variety of animals. On those two days, take a special backstage tour to observe the sharks, seals, river otters and other animals being fed. You might get the chance to feed the sharks or hand-feed the rays. (Watch those fingers!) The “Behind-the-Scenes Tour” starts at 8:15 a.m. That's when participants meet up with a...

From my blog at www.GreenwichCT.com THING 68 – Greenwich Avenue the Day Before Christmas The good news is you have tons of time to shop. Seriously, why would anyone want to go shopping for more than say 60 minutes? Ok, you have to buy stuff for the whole family, so allot two hours. The bad news is that you have to get off your tails and buy your stuff in person, sorry Amazon. Yes, you have to turn this computer off, leave me, and venture out into the big bad world. Good luck and god speed.

From my blog at www.GreenwichCT.com THING 67 – Paul Tudor Jones’ Christmas Spectacular ONLINE For those of you who missed the annual Paul Tudor Jones’ Christmas Spectacular, click play on the window. Every year he puts on a full blown light show in front of his house (next door to the Belle Haven Yacht Club). The show is synchronized with a soundtrack hooked up to FM90.5. Unfortunately the show has ended, but thanks to the Wall Street Journal we can watch it right here: http://greenwichct.com/2010/12/thing-67-paul-tudor-jones-christmas-spectacular-online/

From my blog at www.GreenwichCT.com THING 66 – Send your daughter to Greenwich Dance Studio Since you can’t get your daughter to stop spinning around after seeing the Nutcracker and you want to save all the fine china in your house, I highly recommend putting your child’s energy to good use and sending her to the Greenwich Dance Studio. Located at the Greenwich YWCA (259 East Putnam Ave), the Greenwich Dance Studio provides classes for aspiring Thumbelenas from 3 to 18 yrs old. In addition to the Ballet, the studio also offers classes in Pointe, Modern, Jazz and Hip-Hop. Since I grew up in a family of all boys and now have a 14 month old daughter, I guess I’m going to have to start to learn about this pointy-toe stuff. All I know is that Kate Truesdell (Founder and Director of the Green...

From my blog at www.GreenwichCT.com THING 63 – Handel’s Messiah at the First Congregational Church of Greenwich It’s approaching 1am and I’m going through my list of things you could possibly do today (Sunday December 19th) and I found this. I’m not the biggest history (or religion for that matter) buff, but I believe that Handel’s Messiah consists of some famous Christian Christmas (redundant?) work, right? For those of you that are interested, have a great time. For the others, I’ll see what else is going on when I re-awake tomorrow.

From my blog at www.GreenwichCT.com THING 61 – Greenwich High School Production of Bye Bye Birdie I saw this posted yesterday and thought it might be fun to attend. You can’t really go wrong with it being only $10. I’m assuming it is a Greenwich High School production, being at their theater and all, but it does say it is presented by The Broadway Musical Workshop. Is that just a fancy way at saying that it is put on by the high school that aspires to be associated with Broadway?
