The 1st New England Deaf Festival 2013 was this past weekend.  This event was literally held at the bottom of the street of the subdivision I live in, at the Hackney's Hope Farm on 174 Willcox Road, Middletown, CT., so I made it a point to attend.   Last year the Hackney Farm hosted a Pow Wow, for the first time in the area, so making their farm available for events is not new to them. The 1st New England Deaf Festival 2013 had a little bit of everything for young and old. There was: Crafts Small Car Show Animals Horse Rides Food Most everyone who was there was Hearing Impaired, so there was a lot of signing.  It took a little bit to get use to communicating with the workers at the: Enterance gate Parking Craft booths Animal Petting Area Horse Rides Antique Cars All areas at the 1st ...

Oddfellows Playhouse Auditions For "Oliver".  Oddfellows Playhouse in Middletown, CT will be holding auditions this week for their up coming play "Oliver".  Oliver Twist was one of my favorite books that I read in elementary school, and I am looking forward to purchasing tickets to see the Oddfellows presentation of "Oliver" in December. However, for those who are age 14 and up, and who aspire to perform on the stage, this is an excellent opportunity to audition for this Musical rendition of Charles Dicken's classic novel "Oliver Twist".  The Oddfellows Playhouse in Middletown, CT does an excellent job with each and everyone of their performances, and their Musical rendition of "Oliver" is sure to be excellent as well. If you would like to audition contact the Oddfellows Playhouse at...

September 11, 2001 Will Always Be In Our Hearts, and each of us have our own special reason why that day will always be a day we will never forget.  Today is a day of not only remembering the vicious attack on our country twelve years ago, but also a day to reflect the memories, and thoughts which went through our mines as the events of September 11, 2001 unfolded. I have shared what I remember most about 9/11 before, and have made a commitment to share that memory each and every year on September 11.  Below is a special memory of that day, it is an event which hit close to home and will forever live on in my heart and mind. Many innocent people lost their lives on that day, including one that I personally knew.  His son and my youngest son grew up playing baseball together, so I use t...

EMPOWER in Middletown, CT is well known for it's Zip Line Courses, which I wrote a blog about last year.  But the EMPOWER Sports Leadership Development Program is an equally excellent program offered by the EMPOWER staff. EMPOWER Sports Leadership Development Program is designed to improve the way kids of all ages look at sports, as well as the way they practice and perform.  At the EMPOWER Sports facility, young athlete will not only develop their skills, but will also be able to identify areas they require more improvement in the sport and leadership abilities. EMPOWER not only provides the means by which young athletes can measure their improvement, but also creates an environment for them to improve their confidence, and ability to focus and perform better in pressure situations....

Middletown, CT Board of Ed & Committees Calendar Of Meetings 2013-2014.  When my two sons were in school I made it a point of attending every Middletown Connecticut Board of Education & Committee Meeting.  I found that it was the best way to stay informed of what was going on in the district, and to have a voice before decisions were made.  I would encourage parents who still have children in school to attend all of these meetings, or better yet start attending them before you have children in school.  Not many parents attend these meeting, so those who do have a good opportunity to influance the decisions made by Board of Edcation Member.  Below are links to the monthly  Middletown Connecticut Board of Ed &  Committees Calendar Of Meetings 2013-2014.  When my two sons were growing up the one thing my wife and I would search the newspaper for each in everyday for the month of August was the Middletown Connecticut School Bus Schedule.  Back then the Middletown Connecticut School Bus Schedule was not available on the Internet.  The only way we could get it was to wait for it to be published in our local newspaper, and we only got one shot at it.  If we missed it on the day it was published, we had to then run around to the neighbors to see if they cut it out of the newspaper and kept it. It was important to get the Middletown Connecticut School Bus Schedule, because sometimes the pick-up and drop-off locations would change, as well as the times.  These days with all the School Districts having websites, it has become much easier to get...

The 27th Middletown Connecticut Mud Volleyball Tournament was held this past Saturday at Zorn's Pond in Middletown, Connecticut, to raises money for the Epilepsy Foundation of Connecticut.  The tournament has grown each year, and the last three years they have had to place several teams on a waiting list, because the Middletown Connecticut Mud Volleyball Tournament was not able accommodate all of the teams that applied.  The picture to the right is of last years tournament winners Deez Nuts.  I get a kick out of reading some of the names of the teams, my favorete this year was I Hope That's Mud. Last year there were 215 teams who participated in the 26th Middletown Connecticut Mud Volleyball Tournament,  and raised over $60,000 which will be used to help people with epilepsy and their ...

With most schools around the Country starting back up again by the end of the month, MReport, reported last week on a Survey conducted by Realtor.com titled "Survey Shows Impact of School Boundaries on Buyer Picks" which showed results I do not think Realtors will find  surprising.  The survey identified: The School Location Is A Major Considerations In Purchasing A Home.  The survey also identified most of these Buyers would be happy living within the boundaries of the school, and proximity was not a major consideration. Buyers who place a high importance on the school their children will attend would be willing to "pay above budget" prices. Out of the three considerations only the second one surprised me. I would have thought proximity to the school would have been more important than...
