Save the date, Friday September 23, 2011, as far as I can tell, is the day I can once again go grocery shopping without falling on the floor at the checkout isle and writhing in pain and agony, the day I can start eating good foods again on a regular basis! ALDI is opening in New Milford!!!! The new ALDI store, which I have been watching with a very impatient eye, is at 125 Danbury Rd in New Milford. It would appear the entrance is at the traffic light at Lores Plaza, although I admit I have not driven in there yet. By all accounts the grand opening will be Friday, September 23!!! A date that will live in infamy! I know, such a silly thing to get all excited about you might think. But honestly, we have nothing to compare locally. My few experiences at ALDI in Torrington were fantastic, ...

How's the real estate market in New Milford, CT? Check it out. As of September 1, 2011 in New Milford, CT there were 263 single family homes for sale. This is a pretty dramatic drop of 22 homes, one I have not seen in a long time. This could be due to the fact many homes expired today and have not had a chance to re-list. Of these 4 are foreclosures. At least 15 short sales are available for sale that are marked as such. I am sure there are more, but we do not have a great way of tracking them on our multiple listing service. 24 single family homes sold in New Milford, CT in August 2011. This is 10 more than the month of August, 2011. Of these homes that sold, the average list price was $345,058. The average sale price was $317,363, up from last month. The average market time for these ...

Without power for 9 hours, better than many in Connecticut. I read that there was something like 700,000 customers without power in CT alone, wow! I did brave the littered streets to get to my daughters house downtown, then walked over to see the Housatonic River, which has once again overflowed its banks and caused Rt. 7 to be closed in both directions. Many more streets are closed, bridges are closed, getting from point A to point B is no easy task. All afternoon my grandson was trying to "fix" the problem. When the lights came back on, EVERY SINGLE LIGHT came on. And no lights were on when when the power went off! So, we made it through the earthquake and Irene, all in one week. Route 7 at Veterans Bridge. Auto Technic has plastered on their window, "Irene Blows". How appropriate... ...

There really is no time left to prepare for Irene. If you didn't do it already, well, it will have to do. I am counting on only a tropical storm by the time it hits me, but the coastline of Connecticut is certainly at risk. Here in my town we suffer from the ravages of flooding of the Housatonic River. This wreaks much havoc on the town, especially for those who live in flood prone areas. And as Governor Malloy of CT has pointed out, we have far more trees now than we did in years back during the last major hurricane that hit the state. The coastline of course will take the brunt of the storm. As it moves inland I am sure it will weaken some. As you move further inland we are more rural. And remember, many of our farms took a big hit with the snow loads this winter. Some still are worki...

New Milford CT Real Estate Talk. Have you ever left the house and forgot to put on your face? It seems to be a reoccurring theme for me lately, good thing my grandson is there to remind me. Out of a three (and three quarters) year old's mouth it flies... "DEAN, DEAN"... (don't know why he calls me that), "you forgot to put on your FACE!" I have been busier than a one armed paper hanger, I am impressed that I don't walk outside with my slippers on (been there, done that) let alone remembering to put on my face! How many times have we shown a house and we realize the owner must have forgotten to put the face on the house. No curb appeal, front door dinged up, dirty, the blinds are down, broken or crooked. Just as scary looking as when I forget to put on my face I have to tell you. The hous...

GOOD NEWS, OWNER CAME AND CLAIMED THE HOULIGANS! THEY ARE HOME SAFE AND SOUND!   Did you lose your dogs in New Milford CT? We found two female dogs in our yard this evening. A fox hound (?) and a spaniel of some type with short hair. Both dogs have 2010 New Milford CT dogs tags on them and were found on Ridge Rd. One has what looks to be an invisible fence type of devise on it. I have had to call Animal Control, which I did not want to do. But these dogs and my old pooch won't mix in the house, add my cats to the recipe, and it would have been a disaster for sure. And leaving them to run amok up here on the ridge in New Milford is not a good idea with the traffic on the roads. If you lost your hound and spaniel in New Milford, CT, please call the Animal Control Officer at 860-354-2138. ...

Is it time to buy a house in New Milford, Connecticut? If you have the ability to purchase a home, things could not be better. What gives you the ability to purchase a home in the greater New Milford CT area? A stable job, a good credit score, earnings that fall within the guidelines for a mortgage. The good GREAT news is... home prices AND interest rates are low, and I mean low. Home prices in New Milford, at this time, show both a median and average price of 2001 prices. And mortgage rates are lower than they were in 2001. In an email advisory I got from Connecticut Home Mortgage yesterday, a 30 year fixed conforming is showing an interest rate of 4.375%. In 2001, the average interest rate for the month of June for a 30 year fixed was at 7.16%. Now that is interesting, home prices hav...

Yesterday we had some pretty horrific storms hit Connecticut. As I was driving home there was an impressive light show going on all around me. Getting from the car to the house was a bit on the "thrilling" side as the lightening was hitting the ground around my house. We turned off and unplugged as much as we could. All of a sudden I told my family that the sky reminded me of what I call a "tornado sky" as everything turned dark green, even the air. I remember this from when I lived in Georgia, it seems even the air turned a dark green, like being in a bowl of pea soup, before a tornado came near. And that is exactly what happened. I would have taken a picture but my camera was in the trunk of my car. We were fine, and perhaps amazingly lucky as we didn't lose power. Although apparently...

Home prices in New Milford CT sliding to 2001 prices, both median and average. While home prices fall, the total amount of home sales falls with it. What does this mean to you as a home seller? Price, price, price, condition, condition, condition. As you can see by the graphs below, we have slid to 2001 home sale prices in New Milford, Connecticut. Of course 2011 is only half over, so perhaps we will pull up a bit. But not only are prices down, but volume is down too. If you have to sell, you must price your home according to current market conditions. If you are upside down in your mortgage, or can no longer afford to make your mortgage payments you should act quickly and decisively, pricing your home according to the current market conditions in order to get your house sold. If you ha...

Buy a home for $1000! Buy a home for pennies on the dollar! We all see those infomercials about how you can buy a home for almost nothing!!! As a first time home buyer in the Greater New Milford Connecticut area, you need to understand the pitfalls of purchasing a foreclosure and the reality of the situation. First, I want to say I have yet to see anyone purchase a home for $1,000. Usually what this is referring to is a tax sale for back taxes owed to the town. And if you pay close attention to those, they rarely happen anyway. IF they do, there are some things you should know about properties that are sold in the State of Connecticut for back taxes. The owner has the right of redemption for a year. The deed is not recorded during this period of time and because of this it is unclear of...

NEW MILFORD CT NEWS FLASH... The Great Housatonic Duck Race is ON this Monday, May 30th, 2011! We have not had a successful run over the past 2 years so I decided to hire a professional trainer to get my duck in shape to win! From all reports, he should do very well in the race this year. The first year my duck was just not strong enough to pull ahead of the pack. Last year he had no focus, he saw some chicky who bat her eyes at him, he allowed himself to be distracted, the race was lost. All our dreams floated down river... This year will be different, very very different. I am very grateful to Steven "King of the House" Smith for suggesting to me that Nutsy S. Wallenda was available to help. Nutsy has won many a swimming competition in his life. I understand if it weren't for his dedi...
