Portland Volunteer Fire Department will hold it’s Annual Old Timers’ Night at its picnic ground on Indian Hill Avenue on Saturday, Aug, 18. Festivities will begin at 4 p.m. with dinner and service awards to follow.The event is free. Call the Firehouse at 342-6752 to RSVP, or stop by the station Tuesdays after 7 p.m. or anytime you see a car there and sign up on the bulletin board in the members’ lounge. Also, pass the word to other “old timers” you may run into in case they have’nt gotten the word.

During August , the Portland town inspector will conduct inspections of irrigation systems in town. In order to do this your system must be activated. If it is not activated call the office at 342-6733 to schedule an appointment for a different time.If the inspector comes out and your system is not activated, you will still be charged a $50 inspection fee.For more information call the Public Works Office at 342-6733

Market Report for Portland for May 2007  Residential There are 59 active listings on the market in Portland.  For the month of May there were 24 new listings, 8 homes went under deposit and there were 7 closed transactions.  Homes sold for an average price of $229,429.  The closing price was 92% of the final asking price and homes were on the market an average of 38 days.  They sold for an average of $134 per sq.ft.  In May of 2006 there were 6 closed transactions with an average sale price of $ 359,593.  Homes sold for 100% of their final asking price and were on the market for an average of 61 days.  The absorption rate shows an 7.5 month supply of homes on the market.  Compared to April of this year closings went from 10 in April to 7 in May, average sale price went down from $304,25...

Market Report for Portland for March 2007There are 42 active listings in Portland, 16 came on the market in March, 14 went under deposit and only 1 closed.  The average sale price was $380,000, the listing sold for 95.02% of the final listing price and the house was on the market for 188 days.  Compared to last month number of deposits doubled to 14 , but closings went down from 9 to 1.  The average sold price went from $303,600 last month to $380,000 this month, but with only 1 closed sale, there is not enough information to say prices are going up.Looking at March 2006, there were 11 closed sales with an average sale price of $302,336 with listings selling for 97.19% of the final listing price and average days on the market were 110.  Closed sales were down 91%.1st Quarter 2006 vs. 1s...

Market Update for Portland for February 2007There were 41 active listings on the market at the end of February.  8 new listings came on the market, 7 homes went under deposit and 9 closed.  The average sold price was $303,600 and the median sale price was $245,000.  Home were on the market for an average of 94 days and they sold for 96.67% of their final asking price.Compared to January the number of deposits stayed the same and the number of closed sales went up from 6 in January to 9 in February.  The number of days on the market went way up from an average of 56 in January to 94 in February.  The average sale price went way up this month to $303,600 compared to $257,233 in January.Last February there were only 4 closed sales with an average price of $260,225.  Again the sales were up...

MARKET UPDATE for PORTLAND for DECEMBER 2006    The market in Portland was fairly slow for the month of December.  The number of active listings is down to 44.  There were 10 new listings that came on the market, 7 deposits and only 2 closed sales, with the average sale price of $252500.  14 listings expired.  In December 2005 there were 9 closed sales with the average sale price of $300,478. Looking at a comparison of all sales between 2005 and 2006, 2005 had 136 closed sales with an average sale price of $276,877 and 2006 had 81 closed sales with an average sale price of $289,020.  Sales overall are down 40%, but the average sale price is up 4%.Overall in Portland there is still a shortage of homes on the market, so the market is still looking pretty good for sellers.  Drop in sales t...
