We frequently represent clients who owe significant sums of back taxes, to the IRS.  Often, the question of bankruptcy is raised, and when it might be appropriate for use in resolving the federal tax issue with the IRS.  We have seen a significant number of our clients resolve their outstanding IRS tax debts either completely, or reduce it significantly, through a Chapter 7 bankruptcy filing.    In order for a tax to be dischargeable in bankruptcy, it must meet the following requirements: The tax must be at least 3 years old; The IRS cannot have filed a Substitute for Return (an IRC Section 6020(b) assessment) The tax return must have been filed for at least 2 years; Any additional tax assessments (ie. amended tax returns or IRS audit assessments) must be at least 240 days old; The tax ...

Happy Independence Month in Stamford Connecticut!  July is the time where historically the market begins to slow down, for a number of reasons.  Whether it was the end of the school year, beginning of summer vacations, or the heat, buyers seem to take a "summer break".  Well, that's not the case this month or for the beginning part this year. The first six months in Stamford CT have been consistent as homes continue to sell! Let's take a look, for the month of June, a total of 71 single family homes sold.  The largest group of homes which sold was 24, in the $399,999 and below price range.  Of which 7 fell into the short sale and foreclosure category. The least expensive property sold was a 2 bedroom with 1.5 baths home in the Springdale section of Stamford. The most expensive home sold...

The residents of Stamford Connecticut are so very excited about the Mill River Park project which is beautifying the City that Works. A while ago I had the pleasure of attending a celebration for the Mill River Park project. One of the first noticeable changes was the addition of a community playground on Mill River Road. Volunteers came over a weekend and created a safe haven for the neighborhood children.  A place that was once used for illegal activities, is now a place where one can hear laughter of children running from slide to slide, feel a water misting area providing the overheated with a brief respite and see the smiling faces of kids, well,  just being kids.  Very cool! This wonderful initiative is brought to Stamford by the Mill River Collaborative which is a 501(c)3 non-pro...

Each summer the city of Stamford CT does something really cool.  Last year it was all about the cats and the dogs. This year, the "City That Works" is horsing around.  Throughout the downtown area there are horses, pieces of art, found grazing, standing guard and causing visitors to stop and stare at the fantastic craftsmanship. Here are a few examples.....   Throughout downtown you'll be able to visit and choose your favorite horse. Here's a list and map of the horses. Do me a favor and stop back and let me know which horse is your favorite.  Better yet, take a snapshot and post it to my blog.  Here's a challenge - there are a total of 40  horses.  Can you find them all?  This special exhibit is sponsored by a host of individuals and corporate sponsors, and organized by  Stamford Downt...

I love this time of year because all of the local Farmers Markets are opening back up for the season. There are several Farmers Markets in Stamford and surrounding areas.       This year, I am excited to visit the Stamford Museum & Nature Center Friday Farm Market because in addition to the local produce and delicious goodies, they will also have a wood burning pizza truck. This seems like a great idea! You stop by to do a little local food shopping, and you can relax for a few minutes and eat some delicious pizza while sitting at a picnic table near Bendel Pond. Here is a link for more information: http://goo.gl/0Se6e       The Old Greenwich Farmers Market is open every Wednesday from 3-6pm at the Presbyterian Church of Old Greenwich parking lot.   Stamford, CT was just named one of the best places to raise a family in the United States. On a list compiled by Kiplinger Magazine, Stamford was listed as the #10 best place to raise a family in the United States. I have to say, I was not surprised by this because Stamford has a lot to offer. Stamford has great schools, both public and private. Stamford is a city, but has a variety of locations to live. You can live on the water, in the city, or in a quiet, wooded area. There are parks and the serene, secluded area of North Stamford for nature lovers. North Stamford even has the Stamford Museum & Nature Center, which offers great educational nature classes for children and adults alike. Stamford has a downtown area environment with concerts, plays, great restaurants, and more for the...

Wondering what is happening in the Stamford CT real estate market? A great question that I am asked almost daily. Well, let's spend a moment together to look at what has happened in May and what are the current opportunities available for today's buyer..... In Stamford there were 56 single family homes sold. The largest concentration was in the"$599,999 and below" range, showing us that there are still opportunities for the first-time home buyer in the "City that Works". The least expensive home in town sold for $245,000. It was a 3 bedroom, 1 1/2 bathroom foreclosure in the Springdale area off of Hope Street.  The most expensive? A lovely 4 bedroom and 4 bathroom Shippan waterfront home approximately 3,900 square feet. Absolutely beautiful... Currently there are 110 single family homes...

In today's market, many are scared of buying a home. They are worried about where the market is going and what is going to happen in 5, 10, 15 years when they want to sell. So instead, people continue to rent and wait to take the big leap to buying a home. Did you know that, in today's market, buying beats renting in 98 out of 100 metros? It's true! So why rent when you can buy? Renting vs. buying is a big topic right now, and the numbers show buying is better than renting in Fairfield County. Rental prices are steadily increasing while home prices are decreasing. When you buy a home, you lock in your payments for up to 30 years while rental prices can increase each year. There are also the other benefits of home ownership such as: having your own space to decorate, paint, renovate, and...
