Lucky for me I have never had a need for them so could not recommend from a personal experience so I went and did a little research and am now sharing it with you here on ActiveRain and more. The US News & World Report has released its annual “Best Hospitals” report that showcases over 730 regional hospitals. The ranking is based on criteria such as patient safety measures, survival rates and objective data. You might be hearing that the market is turning around. Well, let's look at the numbers. The supply and demand for single family homes in Stamford CT available for sale is trending.  The number of homes available for sale in Stamford CT have decreased slightly since May, however the number of single family homes sold has remained basically the same (increase of 73 in June compared to 72 in May). In June 2013 the average number of days on the market was 99.   For the third consecutive month the amount of months supply of inventory has decreased. In June 2011, there were ten (10) months of inventory, which means during that month if no other homes were introduced to the market as the rate homes sold the previous month with would take ten months to sell the number of homes on the market.  ...

The focus of our practice in Stamford and New Haven Connecticut is estate planning, as well as civil and criminal taxpayer representation.  With the United States Supreme Court’s decision to strike down the core of the Defense of Marriage Act (“DOMA”), suddenly same sex couple in Stamford, Connecticut and elsewhere who have been denied the federal estate exemption may now seek a refund from the IRS for all those estate taxes and income taxes paid that would otherwise have been exempt.  Currently, the federal estate tax exemption is $5.25 million, however, married couples are entitled to an unlimited marital estate tax deduction, as it has always been public policy not to tax the surviving spouse for assets left to him or her by the deceased spouse. Same-sex couples have been denied this...

Viridian Electric Cost Shockingly Higher Than Utility Company. Over the weekend I met with a Viridian sales representative who was telling me the wonderful benefits of Viridian and how I can save money on my electric bill. But once I did my research and read the fine print Viridian’s Electric cost came out to be 50% more over the long run at today’s prices than Connecticut Light & Power’s cost. The Facts:- Let’s say the average home uses 750 kWh/month at the Ct. CL&P Utility’s current standard rate of $0.07615 = $57.11/month (Note this does not include delivery service charges) Viridian’s six month fixed locked in rate is at $0.0749/kWh using 750 kWh = $56.18 with a savings of $0.93 per month Thus a saving s of $5.58 over the six month lock in rate.   Now let’s read the fine print “Six ...

3rd Party Electric Suppliers Might Cost You More in the Long Run. Third party electric supplies might not be the cheapest way to go in the long run with some using teaser rates in the beginning and then much higher rates afterwards. In today’s world when many people pay their utility bills electronically very seldom do they look at the monthly statements. Here is one example in Connecticut were third party electric suppliers are allowed to use these limited time fixed rates and then change to the much higher variable rate.   For example:- Average home uses 750 kWh/month at the Ct. CL&P Utility’s current standard rate of $0.07615 = $57.11/month (Note this does not include delivery service charges) A six month fixed locked in rate might come in around $0.072/kWh using 750 kWh = $54.000 A ...

The focus of our practice is civil and criminal taxpayer representation, and whether in Stamford, Connecticut or elsewhere, the IRS has stepped up its focus on identifying and prosecution criminal tax matters.  What has developed is a new Special Enforcement Program (“SEP”), and its examiners may be coming to taxpayer near you. What is “SEP”?  SEP is a specialized compliance program within the IRS Small Business/Self-Employed Operating Division directed toward that segment of the population which derives substantial income from either legal or illegal activities and intentionally understate their income.  When we represent taxpayers before the IRS or the Department of Justice Tax Division, and we have noted the increase in using civil exam functions to identify and pursue potential tax ...

The focus of our practice is civil and criminal taxpayer representation, and whether in Stamford, Connecticut or elsewhere, the IRS is the best agency for collecting and handling financial information, and has therefore increased its focus on 8300 Exams in Stamford, Connecticut and elsewhere.  When we represent taxpayers before the IRS or the Department of Justice Tax Division, we often have to explain the administrative powers the IRS examiners or criminal investigators have.  IRC § 6050I requires the filing of a form to report cash receipts in excess of $10,000 by any business.  It also makes it a violation for taxpayers to structure their financial transactions in a manner to evade the reporting.  But what is an “8300” Audit? The IRS and FinCen require businesses to report the receip...

The focus of our practice is civil and criminal taxpayer representation, and whether in Stamford, Connecticut or elsewhere, the IRS has increased its focus on Bank Secrecy Act issues, and in particular has created three new types of agent: The Abusive Tax Avoidance Transaction (“ATAT”) Agent – IRM 4.32 The Bank Secrecy Act (“BSA”) Examiner – IRM 4.26.6 The Special Enforcement Program (“SEP”) Agent – IRM 4.16.1.3 When we represent taxpayers before the IRS or the Department of Justice Tax Division, we are usually focused on income, expenses and tax loss.  Not so with these new agents.  The focus here has now shifted to failing to comply with the Bank Secrecy Laws under Title 31, and the federal government’s assault on terrorism financing and money laundering. All of a sudden we have found...

We frequently represent taxpayers and accountants in criminal tax matters, and whether in Stamford, Connecticut or elsewhere, the Department of Justice and IRS have both historically regarded Tax Evasion as the most important criminal tax statute.  It is also the criminal tax statute with the greatest impact for deterrence. Under IRC § 7201, Tax Evasion has three elements: 1. Willfulness 2. The existence of a tax deficiency 3. An affirmative act constituting evasion or an attempted evasion of tax The definition of willfulness is the “violation of a known legal duty.”  The willfulness test is a subjective one, and what I have seen is that the government generally shows willfulness in Tax Crimes by activities of the defendant that, though they themselves may not be illegal, lend credence ...

So the market’s recovering, interest rates are low, and you think you’re finally ready to buy a home? Not so fast. Buyers across the country are running into a new roadblock: there don’t seem to be enough homes for sale. Anyone who has looked at entry- to mid-level homes for sale in Stamford neighborhood probably knows what I mean. Mortgage rates remain near historic lows, and as the prices of homes for sale continue to rise, fears that we could soon see a repetition of a real estate equity loss seem increasingly unlikely.  Why the lack of inventory? There are several reasons. Buyers may be ready to buy again, but somesellers are still not in a position to offer their Stamford homes for sale. When the housing market collapsed seven years ago, some homeowners’ equity loss was such that t...

Neighborhood of Shippan Point in Stamford CT 06902 Why Do People Live Here? The community of Shippan is a wonderful waterfront community of apartments, condominiums and single family homes that sit conveniently just South of downtown Stamford.  Through the tree lined streets it's not uncommon to see families walking and children playing during the summer or sledding down the hills of the community's park which frames the entrance to Shippan Point in the winter.  It's an oasis from the hustle and bustle of downtown, yet only minutes away from Interstate 95 and the Stamford Train Station where the Metro-North Line can get you to New York's Grand Central Station on an express train in 45 minutes.
