26th Annual Celebrate Wallingford Festival  The 26th Annual Celebrate Wallingford Festival is ready to kick off this weekend, October 6th and 7th. Giorgio Returns to Wallingford for Sonic Serenade Back in January a local musician named Giorgio Fareira struck gold - and made a Sonic employee's day - by singing his order at the Wallingford Sonic. It was recorded by a friend in the car with him and the rest is history. Plaza Azteca to Replace Wallingford Applebee's A couple months ago we heard that Applebee’s, one of our favorite local restaurants, was closing. This was surprising, as whenever we went there the place was very busy, and no reason for the closing was given. It’s always sad to see a local business close, so we were glad to see that the space would not be empty long: a new Mexican-themed restaurant, Plaza Azteca, is slated to move in and will spend the next four to five months making renovations to the building. Knowing that this chain is well regarded, we decided to do a little recon in anticipation of their arrival and visited the Newington location to see what we could expect.   Wallingford Welcomes Opening of CT Motorsport Park Back in July 2010, we wrote about plans to open an outdoor go-kart track in Wallingford. For almost two years, the 1,800 foot track have sat silent, waiting for the right time to come alive with the roar of 10.5 hp engines, the smell of rubber and gasoline, and the adrenaline rush of competition. And now, the long wait is over. Owners Bill and Barb Doucette are proud to announce the opening of CT Motorsport Park, Wallingford’s only outdoor performance kart track. Lined by nearly 1,000 hay bales wrapped in plastic to protect them from the weather, the track is located at 346 Quinnipiac Street in Wallingford’s Silversmith Park.
