A Wilmington tradition since 1921, the Flower Market is held the weekend of  Mother's Day with proceeds benefiting children's charities.  It offers plenty of opportunities for dads and kids and daughters and sons to find gifts for Mom. There are plants of all types, ranging from nursery grown seedlings to those donated from local gardens (Thinning out plants? Bring them here). Back "in the day," many local estates donated plants from their greenhouses, but there are not many of those still operating. There are herbs, veggies, hanging baskets, perennials and ground covers.(right-view of grounds from top of Rockford Tower). There are also merchant tents with all manner of products from soaps, oils, jewelry, scarves, hats, clothes for all ages, and handmade items not found anywhere else. K...

The last resort will be to go to a website catering to those needing colored bottles to decorate their trees. Southern legend says that slaves liked to put t...

Last night was the last outdoor concert of the season in Rockford Park in Wilmington, Delaware. I especially wanted to attend, since my friends Mike and Tracy Connolly were playing with their band, Seven Rings. Mike is the Director of the New Castle Historical Society, and not only plays guitar, but also the mandolin. Tracy plays tambourine and sings, as well as leading sing-along and clap-along songs.                                     There was a nice crowd, and many of them indicated they were Irish--as this is a band that plays Irish, Scottish, and a few other songs (including a Johnny Cash song). Rockford Park is a jewel in the City of Wilmington, part of a park system organized by philanthropist Samuel Bancroft and designed by Frederick Law Olmsted over 100 yea...
