While sitting outside the condo in Boca Grande, FL over the Memorial Day weekend, I found the greatest shells and a sea urchin for my collection.  This photo, now my desktop background, makes me relaxed and happy.  It's sooooo hot out, I wish I was there now.

Hello Folks, Below are a series of pictures from my last two visit to Boca Grande in the past three weeks. The island and the waters around it are simply beautiful. Awesome beaches and if you like to collect sharks teeth, this is a great place to find them in the surf. Enjoy these views ....     Hello Folks,                                                                                        April 30, 2009   Couple weeks ago, in early April 2009, I had the pleasure of spending the day on the beach in Boca Grande. Boca Grande is a beautiful island on the west coast of Florida. The waters around Boca are a beautiful Bluish/Green color, much like you would see in the Caribbean.     A huge benefit of spending the day on Boca’s beaches is the lack of people you have to share the sand with. Boca is not heavily visited which makes it very nice. The beaches are awesome with soft white sand and if you like to collect sharks teeth, this looks like an excellent place to do so. As we were walking the beach, I spotted a lady with a handful of sharks teeth. Previously, I had always gon...

Playing around with posting pictures in the blog for the first time. Okay, so this wasn’t today. We took a few days off and drove about an hour south to the ever-exotic Boca Grande, where we did … nothing. Well, we did look at some fine real estate. A beautiful place but not cheap! Outside those fine homes: some of the nicest boats I’ve ever seen. And we spent some time sitting on a sandbar, sipping bubbly water. That’s our boat in the first photo, a Simmons Sea Skiff 20, for those boat nuts out there.   Okay, enough of that. Back on your heads!

One of Florida's biggest problems is the spread of Exotic Species. From various types of plants, bugs, and animals. In Cape Coral (Which is in Lee County), we have a big problem with "Nile Monitor Lizards". These lizards grow up to 7ft in length and will consume anything they can get into their mouths.... Birds, Fish, Cats and Dogs ... just to name a few. Cape Coral spends thousands of dollars trying to control these lizards, but the reality is ...... They are here to stay.On the island of Boca Grande (which is in Lee County), they are having a huge probelm with Spiny Iguanas. The community has even incorporated a "Lizard Tax" as a way to fund the removal of these lizards. Although this Lizards are not dangerous as the Nile Monitor Lizards, they do disrupt the eco system on the island...

Boca Grande at one time was the fifth busiest port in Florida because of it's location at the entrance to Charlotte Harbor.  In the 1880, phosphate was located in large quantities inland and a huge demand resulted for its use in fertilizer. For the first few years, the phosphate was floated down the river aboard barges and then loaded onto sea going ships to deliver all over the United States for processing. A few years later, a railroad line was built going down to the port in order to more efficiently transport the phosphate from the mines to the port. Because of the phosphate trade, and this port being so busy, a lighthouse was built on the southern tip in December 1890. Since 1890 the lighthouse has been in operation. Next to the lighthouse is the housing quarters for the lighthou...

Its time to get in the boats and do a little fishing in SW Florida. This area is known world wide as one of the Premier Tarpon Hot Spots. The world famous Boca Grande Pass will be full of Tarpon from now until about mid August. Thousands and Thousands of people come to this area of the state to fish for these Giant fish every year. Giant Sharks also will be in the area as they come to feed on all of the Tarpon that are here. Here is a picture of a Tarpon, just look at the size of this Beast.  Here is a picture of a Hammerhead Shark that was caught last year in Boca Grande Pass.  Now is the time, so if you have ever wanted to have a chance to hook into one of these Monsters, let me know and maybe we could get out on the Boat and get a few.
