Hernando County and Brooksville signed a fire and rescue mutual aid agreement that should improve service to residents and increase efficiency. The county commissioners approved a plan that essentially tears down jurisdictional boundaries and allows the closest crews to respond to the scene while in the past, requests for assistance were done on a case-by-case basis from the scene.Hernando County Real Estate

 History & History Related Items Brooksville history: Here is a history page for Brooksville created by Moton Elementary School students. Settled in 1845, Brooksville was first known as Melendez. Later, it was merged with a neighboring community, Pierceville. It wasn't until 1856 that the town was finally named Brooksville to honor Preston Brooks. Brooks was a South Carolina Congressman who was a supporter of State Rights. Brooksville was also the county seat at that time. It was officially incorporated on 13 October 1880.
