So you want to buy a house - Part 4 - Should you buy or rent? It’s a question that is asked often...should I buy or rent my home? What is right for you may not be right for someone else so it is important to make the best choice for your personal situation. Some of the reasons people rent include fluctuations in their income, a high debt to income ratio, bankruptcy, foreclosure and other credit issues. Or they may just not be able to save enough money for a minimum down payment to buy a home. Maintenance is one of the biggest differences between owning your home or being a renter. When you own a home, you are responsible for all maintenance and repair issues. If you rent, the owner of the property is responsible for repairs and maintenance. Consider buying a home instead of renting if.....

SpaceX Falcon Heavy Launch rocked the Space Coast today 2-6-18  The SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket launched this afternoon (February 6, 2018) and two of the side boosters landed successfully at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. About eight minutes after liftoff the boosters landed side by side and their touchdowns caused sonic booms or “Booms on the Beach” across the Space Coast. This was an historic event that was expected to bring 100,000 visitors to the Cocoa Beach area to witness the launch and it did. The weather was perfect except for some upper level winds that delayed the launch almost to the end of the window. Watching rocket launches on picture perfect days is just one more benefit of living on Florida’s Space Coast on Cocoa Beach.

This is what life is like in Cocoa Beach, Florida Locals fondly refer to Cocoa Beach as the greatest little city in the world. Let me tell you why...Cocoa Beach is home for approximately 12,000 locals. It is also a popular vacation destination, a relaxing day at the beach for those who live on the mainland, a great surfing location for surfers and a favorite “home away from home” for our snowbirds. Whether you want to raise a family, relax or retire, the casual, friendly lifestyle of Cocoa Beach makes it the perfect place to do so. Cocoa Beach is a barrier island with six miles of beaches on the east and the Banana River on the west. Cape Canaveral borders Cocoa Beach to the north and Patrick Air Force Base borders Cocoa Beach to the south.  Cocoa Beach has over 2,400 single family home...

Florida’s Seafood Bar and Grill – 20 years on Cocoa Beach Florida’s Seafood Bar and Grill on Cocoa Beach recently celebrated 20 years in business and is a favorite with both locals and tourists. “Florida's Seafood” as locals refer to it, is not a chain restaurant. It is family owned and operated, the atmosphere is casual and it is family friendly. The menu is extensive and offers something for everyone, seafood lover or not. Lunch is served from 11am to 4pm which makes it a great alternative for locals who want a good meal at a reasonable price. One of my favorite lunch selections is their Summer Salad which consists of lettuce topped with fresh fruit, candied nuts and Feta cheese. It is served with fritters, garlic bread and lemon sorbet. You can add grilled shrimp or grilled chicken f...

The Canals of Cocoa Beach Cocoa Beach is a barrier island in East Central Florida that is well known for its waterfront property. With six miles of beaches to the east and river front to the west, it is uniquely located. The Atlantic Ocean to the east offers gorgeous sunrises, surfing and beach access while the Banana River on the west is the place for boating and breathtaking sunsets.  But it is the canals of Cocoa Beach and their tranquil, relaxed atmosphere that are its best kept secret. Visualize yourself relaxing on your screened porch or balcony while you watch the birds perch on the dock pilings as they enjoy the sunshine…you will see pelicans, sea gulls and blue heron.               Many of the homes and condos have private docks and it is always relaxing to enjoy the view of ...

It’s the Cocoa Beach Cool Down!  December was warmer than normal here on Cocoa Beach with unseasonably high temperatures some days but last week our weather finally started to cool down and we seeing more normal temperatures. One of the things that appealed to me and my husband when we moved to Florida years ago was the fact that Cocoa Beach has three seasons. The change of seasons is far more subtle than up north and we look forward to each season. The humidity this time of year is lower, the wind comes more from the north than the south and we even see leaves fall from some of the trees.  This weekend a cold front is forecast to bring much cooler, drier air just in time for New Year's Day and the first week of the New Year. It's a nice change from the hot, humid sumer, a chance to we...
