For Hernando Beach, Florida, the Forecast is just Peachy! People seem to think we don't have seasons in Florida but that is misconception.  We do have seasons but some are rather subtle and most of them don't follow the offical calendar. For example, for us strawberry season begins in February and lasts through April when blueberries have their turn. It's the beginning of May, and it appears we also entering a very good peach season as evidenced by my neighbor's peach tree that seems to be particularly loaded this year. Maybe it's the mild climate in this central part of Florida part - and the waterfront properties in Hernando Beach are part of this - that allows these trees to thrive and produce. While strawberries and blueberries and, of course citrus fruit, are grown commercially in ...

Florida Waterfront Living - Hernando Beach Florida offers Great Backyard Water Views! Today, I had the opportunity to preview a few of the currently offered waterfront homes for sale in Hernando Beach, Florida.  Since it was for preview, I was doing this alone and at my own pace which means I was able to stop and enjoy some of the great backyard water views that homes in Hernando Beach have to offer! I've already shared these with my customer but think that others may also appreciate these views! Home sales in the Hernando Beach waterfront community have picked up in recent months quite diminishing listing inventory in some neighborhoods.  There are currently twelve properties under contract.  Buyers have been taking advantage of lower prices for waterfront property and may also be real...

Hernando Beach Florida Waterfront Homes for Sale - January - March 2011 Market Report Waterfront homes in Hernando Beach Florida sold the first quarter of 2011 in all three neighborhoods of this popular boating and fishing community. Most of the sold homes are located in the direct gulf access areas of Hernando Beach, with fewer homes selling in the central and south sections which both have indirect gulf access via use of a boat lift.  Hernando Beach South is also the only deed-restricted neighborhood with mandatory Homeowner's Association in the community. Overall inventory of homes for sale in Hernando Beach has decreased as number of sold homes and currently under contract has increased over the winter months.  There currently are also less short sales and bank-owned properties in i...

Florida Waterfront Living - Transporting a Floating Dock! Have you ever watched the show "How do they do that" and been surprised about how simple or complicated some processes are?  Most of the homes in our waterfront community of Hernando Beach have a floating dock attached to the seawall behind the house. Actually, we take it quite for granted that waterfront homes come with their own floating dock. But how do these docks get to their location?  Well, it's rather simple!  Since floating docks - well - float, they are towed by boat to their final destinations.  One of our neighbors got a new dock today and the following photos show the boat with the dock floating behind it.  Once the floating dock is secured with steel cables to the seawall, the ramp connecting the seawall to the dock...

Florida Waterfront Living:  Shrimp and Crab Cocktail! Florida waterfront living sometimes has its challenges and also its rewards.  We have a pedal boat that had filled up with water during this week's drenching rains in Hernando Beach, Florida.  Its bow was tipping into the water taking on some saltwater.  While dipping out the water today, my husband made a surprising discovery.  Florida nature does not wait to take over a new habitat!  Here is what had already made the boat its new home!  Look close!  These guys are tiny.  The shrimp are very transparent and that baby crab really shows its resemblance to a spider! Shrimp and Crab Cocktail anyone?   Florida Waterfront Living:  Shrimp and Crab Cocktail!

It's a Stormy Day in Hernando Beach, Florida!  But the "Showings" must go on! Wow.... it's been a stormy day in Hernando Beach since early this morning.  Waking up to thunderstorms with heavy lighting and torrential downpours this morning, the wind and rain is blowing in from the Gulf of Mexico and apparently is going to move clear across the State towards the East coast.  We already got four inches of rain earlier this week so that the ground was somewhat saturated.  Thus far, another 3.5 inches of rain fell and the parking lots across Shoal Line Boulevard in Hernando Beach are starting to flood. Yet, REALTORS are a tough bunch, there are still showings being scheduled for this morning and personally, I hope this weather will improve by this afternoon when I have to brave the elements ...

Hernando Beach Waterfront Living:  Catch of the Day! You've heard me say it often enough, Hernando Beach waterfront living offers some great fishing opportunities.  Whether fishing from your own backyard dock, or going out on the Gulf of Mexico with your own boat or charter, you are likely to get your catch of the day! And if you don't fish, you can enjoy great birdwatching opportunities.  Actually, living in Hernando Beach, you can combine fishing and birding!  See what this lucky guy caught today!  Perched high on a light pole, this Osprey is examining today's catch long enough for me to "catch" some photos of this great bird and "fisherman".   Hernando Beach Waterfront Living:  Catch of the Day! Sign of the Times? New Street Sign in Hernando Beach Florida If you are driving through Hernando Beach, Florida these days, you might have noticed that the old wooden street sign at the intersection of Shoal Line Blvd and Companero Entra was missing. Was it just out of mischief or a sign of the times that people seem to have a use for everything whether it belongs to them or someone else?  Tunrs out the old and somewhat worn out sign had been stolen. One of our Hernando Beach residents took it upon himself to make and install a new sign for the street corner where the old sign had sat for so many years.  The new street sign looks quite solid and sturdy, let's hope it'll stay in place for many years to come.  One thing is for sure, you won't be missing your turn here! It's good to know t...

Spring is in the Air! Today was one of those days when you could really say "Spring is in the Air"!  It was a nice warm Florida day and it seems everyone was outside enjoying the sunshine after being forced indoors by colder temperatures these past winter weeks. In my Hernando Beach garden, mother nature is starting to show new colors!  There are flowers popping out and new green leaves showing.  A big bumble bee came humming by. The birds were practicing their songs and I enjoyed listening to this "avian orchestra".  Several crows were "talking" to each other in typical crow fashion, a couple of doves were cooing to each other, grackles seemed disruptive with their strange sounds that remind me of a door needing oil, while finches, sparrows, and other smaller birds provided the backgro...

Just a Sunday to Relax:  Grey Heron at Jenkins Creek Although we are hit by another winter cold spell this weekend, it's a bright and sunny day in Florida.  This morning, we took a little walk around Jenkins Creek between Weeki Wachee and Hernando Beach.  We were hoping to see some manatees which come there for warmer waters but there weren't any.  Luckily, there's always some good bird watching in Florida!  Instead of manatees, we spotted this grey heron resting and relaxing on one leg on what looks like the turned up root ball of a fallen sabal palm.   Just a Sunday to Relax:  Grey Heron at Jenkins Creek

Where do you get the best Breakfast in Hernando Beach, Florida?  Brian's Place! My husband and I occasionally like to get up early and actually go to breakfast somewhere.  Luckily for us, we don't have to go very far.  We have found that the best breakfast can be had right here in our own community of Hernando Beach, Florida, at Brian's Place! Brian's Place is not a large establishment but it has plenty of seating to accommodate smaller groups as well as singles, couples, and families.  When we arrived this morning, several tables were taken including one of the outside tables for those who like to dine al fresco.  The staff is friendly and will advise you on the menu as well as accommodate special requests if possible.  Brian's Place is a family operated business that depends on its re...

Hernando Beach Sunset after a Rainy Day Rainy days do happen in the Sunshine State Florida.  We call it "liquid sunshine".  This was just one of those rainy days when the sky is hanging low with grey clouds all day.  Just before sunset, the cloud cover broke and we were rewarded with a stunning sunset!  Enjoy!
