Suspended in Space and Time  It was quite hazy the other morning on Gulf of Mexico off Hernando Beach. Sea and sky seem to flow into each other seamlessly and objects like this pontoon boat off in the distance appeared to be suspended in space.   It reminded me of the following quote on relativity by Hermann Minkowski, a former teacher of mathematics to Albert Einstein: "The views of space and time which I wish to lay before you have sprung from the soil of experimental physics, and therein lies their strength. They are radical. Henceforth, space by itself, and time by itself, are doomed to fade away into mere shadows, and only a kind of union of the two will preserve an independent reality."  04/14/2015

Bald Eagles at Jenkins Creek, Hernando Beach, Florida   You know Spring is in the air when birds are pairing up.  It is always a privilege to see a Bald Eagle in the wild but yesterday I was particularly lucky when I spotted this pair sitting high up a tree at Jenkins Creek in Hernando Beach, Florida.         I had to zoom in with my camera quite a bit to get these shots.  And I was not the only one who saw these two beautiful birds. Hernando Beach Florida Waterfront Land Sales 2014   Hernando Beach waterfront vacant land sales increased in 2014 compared to 2013 by four properties.  Average and median sales prices overall also increased.  Waterfront lots stayed on the market longer this year than they did last year before an offer was accepted. Rainbow at the End of a Rainy Day Sometimes it's worth to turn around and look the other way.  After raining all afternoon, we still got a nice sunset at the end of the day.  The entire sky went orangy-pink so I couldn't resist taking a photo.       It was still rainly lightly and as I turned around to go back into the house, I noticed a faint rainbow forming! 2nd Annual Cardboard Boat Race in Hernando Beach 2014   The 2nd annual cardboard boat race in Hernando Beach took place this weekend and it was another great success and fun day for residents and visitors of all ages! More than a dozen entries of all different construction and imagination took part in this race.  The rules stated that all boats had to be constructed of corrugated cardboard with no wood or metal parts and no screws holding the pieces together.   Some of the "boats" were hardly recognizable as a "box" while others were of more simple design and didn't stray much from their original cardboard box form.    They all took to water in the Tarpon Canal off Shoal Line Boulevard in Hernando Beach and the crowd was all too happy to cheer them on.  The Hernando Beach Yacht Club hel... 09/28/2014

Friday Foto:  Evening Rainbow in Hernando Beach, Florida   Today started out sunny and dry but by lunch time, thunderstorms had moved into our area and the rest of the day was rainy.  Of course, we need the rain and at least when it rains, we won't have to turn on the sprinkler systems, so that's a good thing! Another good thing is that after a rainy day, sometimes we get rewarded with some of nature's most beautiful sights.  This rainbow developed in the evening hours just before sundown.  It more than made up for the washed out day and was a spectacular substitute for our usual beautiful sunsets.       09/05/2014
