A proposed grocery store for Vilano Beach is hopefully coming soon. St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners today approved all non-zoning variance for the 3.64 acres in the Vilano Beach Town Center that is bounded by Coastal Highway, Vilano Road, and Poplar Avenue. The developers will now hopefully purchase the property from the FDIC and move forward with their plans to bring a much needed grocery store to Vilano Beach. The timeframe the commissioners agreed to was 30 months for the building permits to be approved. The developers agreed to limit the signage heights to 24" on the front and back of buildings B, C, and D and to keep the signage height on the grocery story to 36".  More details about this proposal can be found on my previous blog. Golden Spoon Awards were recently announced by Florida Trend Magazine. Three St. Augustine Restaurants are recipients of this award for 2010. I enjoy eating. I assume there are many foodies among us. Having lived in many wonderful places with great restaurants, I am happy to report that tiny St. Augustine, Florida has received 3 Golden Spoon Awards from Florida Trend Magazine. This is a big deal. The second Design Review Board Meeting for the proposed grocery store for the Vilano Beach Town Center will be today, Wednesday, January 13, 2010 at 3 p.m. at the South Ponte Vedra Civic AssociationBuilding in S. Ponte Vedra. This building is located north of Serenata Beach Club and just before the Guana Tolomato Matanzas National Estuarine Research Reserve Environmental Education Center. There was a Design Review Board (DBR) Meeting on December 16th, 2009. The DRB supported all the variances requested by the developer, but asked for more detail on the sign variances. Is That Ice?? Oh dear, the bird bath is frozen. My garden pond is frozen. My flower garden is full of tents with heat lamps glowing. This is not what I moved to Florida for. Where is the Global warming? I have my oven door open and going full blast. My cat doesn't understand why the living room is full of plants. The past ten days Florida has been visited by the COLD MONSTER of THE NORTH! After all these years of phone calls to friends up north carefully being mum about how we are warm and they are cold the tables have been turned. i have customer here from New York. There weather has follwed them down. They didn't bring warm clothes. The rooms in the motels don't have heat! Hot chocolate anyone? Better yet, a hot toddy!
