Foreclosures and deals in Sanibel and Captiva       Once in awhile I take a closer look at Sanibel’s foreclosures.                                           Sanibel during a foggy day   These days I have noticed a strong spike in the numbers of potential buyers looking towards Sanibel.                                                                The reasons are obvious There are homes under $500,000 and there is even one under $400,000 which is a foreclosure in Upper Captiva. Its not your regular home and if someone knows About this great Island, I would move rather fast. Sanibel is one of these islands that does not want to be infested with high condos and dozen of shopping malls. No sir!                                                               Don’t despair if they are gone...

Located in Sanibel Florida, one of the most unique barrier islands in the country, Bowmans Beach will surprise you. There are no condos nor hotels along the beach, but you may bring your pet, use the public facilities as the shower and barbecue grills, quick back on a bench under the shade of these many palm trees and do some some nifty sea shelling.            For more information about Sanibel Real Estate or properties near Bowmans Beach contact LLoyd at realtorlloydn@aol.com or at 239-810-2980 and Happy Hunting!!!!   Sanibel Island real estate, written by Joe Kendall Broker Associate Right Choice Realty. This is the bridge that starts the journey from Fort Myers over to Sanibel Island. Sanibel Island is some place very special it's a tropical Island that is 3 miles wide and 13 miles long offers the trolly's"Island Lifestyle " Like no where else. The beaches, the wildlife and the endless sunsets still even amaze me today ! I have been a vacationer and a Condo owner on Sanibel from 1987 before selling in 1997 and buying our Gulf Access Waterfront home in Cape Coral Florida. The lighthouse point is pictured here across the bay at the end of the island on Sanibel. I always enjoy going to the beach seeing the dolphins, trying to catch fish from the shore or walking the shoreline watching the sun set an...

The beautifull island of Sanibel does have a few foreclosures of interest. There are very few. There is one which stood out due to the outstanding Old Florida Architectural design. This home is located on the Est end part of Sanibel along a gulf access canal. The asking price is $649,000.       The home was build in 1987 for 1650 square feet under air and plenty of room to expend. That is a very very good price for a gulf access canal home in prestigious Sanibel Island.Do not miss this great opportunity to live or invest in one of the premier islands in Florida.         Bank owned property As/Is with right to inspect. Proof of funds or pre-approval letter required with all offers. Special addendum required with accepted offer are the typical requirement for this Foreclosure Sanibel home.T...

Wow I was reading today that the city of Sanibel (Sanibel Island, Florida) created a new city department call "Exotic Lizard Control" a little over a year ago. The goal of this new department was to start aggressively controlling the spread of Green Iguanas and Nile Monitor Lizards. I had heard that Sanibel was starting to see the Iguanas on the Island and that there was concern of the Nile Monitor Lizards getting to the island, BUT I didn;t know how big a problem it had become. The Exotic Lizard Control Department has collected a total of 750 Green Iguanas since September 2007 (that is in less than one years time) and they are aggressively looking for the Nile Monitor Lizards. The problem these invasive lizards bring is that they can severly impact the native animals on the islan...

My interest in Shell Art started on a trip years ago  far away from Vernal, Utah.  We spent one day on Sanibel Island, Florida where we found shells  bountiful and colorful.  Sanibel Island is named as the Best Shelling Location in the Northern Hemishere.   Visiting the Bailey-Matthews Shell Museum  on Sanibel Island where we found shell art I was determined to create my own  Sailor's Valentines.  I took many years  deciding which box to start with.  Since then I have created many and entered them in  The Sanibel Island Shell Show. Sailors were known to bring these home to their loved ones after a  trip out to sea and most had an endearing message created with shells on the valentine.  They are made in an octagon wooden box.with a glass front.  The single valentine shown below  was made...

Southwest Florida is well known for being an excellent place to collect Sea Shells. From Boca Grande, Cayo Costa, Captiva, Sanibel, Fort Myers Beach, Bonita Beach and down to Naples are all known for being great places to collect Sea Shells with the most popular one being Sanibel Island. The Variety of Sea Shells is simply amazing. The best time to collect shells is during low tide and right after a strong storm. Druing a storm, the gulf of Mexico gets all stirred up and pushes the shells up onto the beach. These are predominantly dead or empty shells, but some live ones make it up onto the beach as well. The live shells should be placed back in the gulf because it is Illegal to collect them. You can find small shells and occassionally very large ones. Most shells are broken, but becau...

Visiting Sanibel Island anytime soon? If you do, or if you are staying in Lee County, Florida, I strongly encourage you to visit Grandma Dot's Restaurant.  Grandma Dots is a wonderful restaurant located in the southern half of Sanibel Island and is surrounded by the Sanibel Marina.   I've been going to Grandma Dot's for about 10 years and have never had a bad meal. It is a small quaint place to have dinner and enjoy the views of the boats in the marina. Because of it's location, it is primarily a "locals" hangout and does not get overwhelmed with visitors. Great food, Great service, outstanding atmosphere and wonderful relaxing views ...... What more could you want while enjoying a fine meal. Next time you are on Sanibel, be sure to check out Grandma Dot's ......   Sincerely,Sean Al...

One of the most noticeable fixtures on Sanibel Island is the Sanibel Lighthouse. Standing taller than any other structure on the island it is 102 feet tall. You will notice the Lighthouse as you cross the causeway going out to the island. It will be sitting to your left on the southern most point. It was build to warn ships of the Barrier Islands and the  shallow waters to gain access to the caloosahatche River.  Build in 1884, the lighthouse has survived every hurricane and major storm for the last 124 years. In the beginning the lighthouse had a warf which extended out 162 feet into the gulf, but that has long since disappeared. In 1923 the two dwellings were modernized to include indoor plumbing and electricity. Then in 1949 the Lighthouse was automated so that a "lighthouse keeper...

Do you like watching Mother Nature? One of the benefits we have by being in Florida is the vast quantity of State, National, and County parks which you can find throughout the state. Many of Florida's communities specifically set aside vast areas for wildlife, which I think is wonderful. I would venture to say that many other states are like this and if you live in an area of the U.S. which has alot of natural countryside, then you are very lucky too.One National Park which I enjoy visiting the most can be found on Sanibel Island in Lee County, Florida. Ding Darling is located on the Northern end of the Island and has a 5 mile road which goes through it. This road meanders through the park giving visitors vies of many of the wetland and water areas to see wildlife. During the winter m...

Sanibel Island is off the coast of Lee County Florida (Ft. Myers). It is definitely one of the many Jewels of Florida. This island is known world wide and the shelling capital of the world. You can walk for miles on the beaches, watching the dolphins play in the gulf, see the "Florida" birds at every turn of your head or just take in the sun. Sanibel has so many shells on the beach you almost have to wear "beach shoes" to keep from cutting up your feet. Before moving to Florida, I use to vacation on Sanibel 3 to 4 times a year. It is by far the most peaceful place that I've ever been. Don't plan on an exciting "night life" because the island rolls up it's sidewalks at dark. What you can do after dark is enjoy the largest concentration of outstanding restaurants that you will find anyw...

even though the market is slow - sanibel island is still seeing good activity in the way of sales.   sanibel and captiva allow for weekly and even daily rentals in some cases so the annual income is stronger on our rental properties than on most.  there are a lot of condos for sale so it is a great time to come in to the market and get a really great buy.   nice near beach homes too although, in the case of sanibel, the homes are only allowed to rent by the month.  keep me in mind for you clients doing 1031 exchanges or looking for that vacation home that can act as a rental property!  hope you are having a great weekend.

Sunset View standing on the sand between the two existing bridge spans!    Sanibel Island Florida has been a part of my life for over 20 years! Being a past owner/vacationer on the Island, I have seen the Island change over the years. June 28th 2007 marked the last day the drawbridge was opened opened of the last time. I used to be able to see in the distance, the sailboats going toward the bride from my balcony on my condo at lighthouse Point ! Please Don't get me wrong, I always complained on waiting for the drawbridge when the traffic backed up on the bridge! But I must admit, the view on the bridge with the boats, people fishing and Pelicans flying by will not be enjoyed as well from t...

Have you ever had the privilege and honor of playing with a really great teammate?  You know the kind that is selfless, has your back, a quick thinker, follows through on the game-plan and can easily adapt and make adjustments in the heat of the game?  If you have ever played with someone who gave it 110% without complaining and was always encouraging and going the extra mile, then you have been a part of a great team indeed.  I have been a part of many teams in my life from the time I was very young and on into college and adult years.  Some of the teams I played on were a force to be reckoned with!  Everyone was working together and doing their job just like the coach instructed us to do.  Then some of the other teams I have been on were well, not so hot.  I have learned what it take...

Sanibel is an exclusive island community just off the coast of Southwest Florida's mainland.  It has remained an artists retreat, the Europeans tropical paradise and the executive's private and exclusive island club.  Sanibel Island is close to Fort Myers' Southwest International Airport and is easily accessible from the mainland.  Sanibel is set apart from the noise of new construction and "cookie cutter model homes" that are found in many mainland communities.  Homes on Sanibel are built with architecture that reflects a true romantic old Florida Island style.  The water-views from the expansive decks and porches are truly breathtaking.  These homes are designed with vaulted or cathedral ceilings to create a sense of openness and to bring the Florida sun streaming in from the many win...

Sanibel and Captiva Island is located North West of Fort Myers and boast some 17 miles of white sand. It is believed that over 5000 years ago they used to be only one island.Today you have to take a boat to reach North Captiva. Its rich history dates over 2500 years ago when the Calusa Indians dominated the region including Fort Myers Beach or Estero Island. The Calusa indians were ahead of their time and skilled craftsmen and builders of huts on top of mounds. Some of these mounds are still intact today. The Calusa Indians were forming a fascinating advanced society which depended mostly on shrimp, shells, crab and trout. They were a well armed and class divided society with nobles and warriors on top and labors running their water system and fishery, which was very extensive. Its is belie...
