Economists gave Sarasota County commissioners a forecast on the economy Wednesday, offering some hope that things are turning around. Economists laid out their outlook to county commissioners, and the forecast is looking bright. "We are still dealing with obviously some challenging times. However, on the horizon projects 2013-2014 until we see our way back to the good old days," says Jeff Maultsby, business and economic development developer for Sarasota County. Maultsby is noticing a few rays of sunshine, singling out the stabilizing Sarasota FL housing market as one key indicator suggesting that the economy is improving. In Sarasota, new home construction was up 65% in May compared to a year ago. Existing home sales are rising as well. The Sarasota Association of Realtors® is reportin...

Sarasota is located in the southeastern area of the United States, bordered by the Gulf of Mexico to the west.If the word Sarasota have had an actual meaning, that would have been translated in the form of "sparkling sand beneath the sun". Let me draw you a picture that defines the amazing world of Sarasota: hot, ivory sands, azure waters, pure tranquility, luscious tropical landscapes and many more.Looking to relocate to Sarasota would be like indulging yourself a tasty ice-cream desert with colorful mini umbrellas after days of unbearable diets. What could be the wrong in spending a few unforgettable days away from the ordinary? Just close your eyes and imagine you're already there: breathe the salty, fresh breeze coming from the Atlantic Ocean, taste it on your lips, feel the white s...

Had to share this image of this Sarasota native that was just hanging around the other day near the Sarasota Bridge that connects Downtown Sarasota with Bird Key, St. Armands, Lido Key and Longboat Key.   The wildlife in Sarasota is truly something to cherish and enjoy.  The majesty of this particular bird is something else.  I hope, wherever you are in the country or around the world, that you enjoy this just as much as I did when I took it.And, in case you wondered, the beaches in the Sarasota Area are clean and clear as can be, no oil to be spotted, no tar balls.  The only oil is sun-tan oil being spread on by tourist and those that call Sarasota Home.

After a period of repair and refreshing, the "Unconditional Surrender" Statue or "The Kiss" as it is also known has returned to the Sarasota Bayfront. "Unconditional Surrender" was created by eminent artist, J. Seward Johnson. The first rendering of "Unconditional Surrender" was a life-sized version that appeared in Times Square in 2005 to commemorate the announcement sixty-years before of the end of WWII. Later the 26-foot version was sited at Snug Harbor in New York for a month before being moved to Sarasota where many of the more patriotic residents wanted it to remain. And so far it has, after a brief visit to San Diego a few years back.

Sarasota Home Ownership Sarasota home ownership has several benefits: 1) Florida Homestead Exemption- To qualify, your home must be your primary residence more than six months per year.  You will be asked to prove residency with a valid Florida drivers license and/or voters registration card. This exemption allows for the deduction of $50,000 from the assessed value of your home before taxes are calculated. Once homesteaded, the property also qualifies for the Save our Homes Cap, which may save you thousands over the years as the market recovers. 2) Home Mortgage Interest Deduction- In most cases you can deduct the interest you pay on a loan secured by your home, regardless of if it is a first, second or even third mortgage. Home equity lines and lines of credit are also eligible. 3) De...

Ok, maybe not in the galaxy...yet. In October the Today Show proclaimed that Sarasota was the #1 real estate value in the United States. Recently, the International Property Journal reported that Sarasota was the #1 real estate value in the Western World. The Western World? That should get someone's attention. Sarasota is internationally known as a beautiful, cultural and sophisticated. Siesta Key Beach was recently named the #2 beach in the country for the second year in a row. Our waterfront property, beachfront property, golf course property, equestrian property...all are an excellent value right now. The best value in the known universe, I suspect.

This year, Sarasota recognizes the arrival of Bertha Palmer in Sarasota. During the spring of 1910, this dynamic woman of great wealth and international business renown showed up in the little known Sarasota and immediately fell in love. She built not only her own home, but Sarasota homes for many of her friends and relatives to join her in the little jewel on the Gulf she had discovered. She knew it was special. Now, one hundred years later, we see she was absolutely correct! Sarasota is known world wide as a cultural haven, a sophisticated Gulf Coast city, and home to one of the planet’s top beaches. Who wouldn’t want to purchase Sarasota real estate or live here? Click here for more information on today's Palmer Ranch!

Sarasota's Bayfront Park One of the amazing perks of living downtown is the proximity to one of the hubs of activity in Sarasota – the beautiful Bayfront Park, also known as Island Park. The park juts out into Sarasota Bay from its location at Gulfstream and Ringling Boulevards. The park is surrounded by water, and is flanked by the marina on one side, and private boats anchored in open water to the south. Views of Siesta Key; Lido, Longboat and Bird Key; and the John Ringling Bridge are all around you. Simply turn around to view the clean and sparkling Sarasota skyline.  Benches under huge banyan trees offer old Florida style shade, many even swing under the trees branches – bring your lemonade! A huge expanse of grass in the center of the park is great for sunning or reading while wor...

Kayaking Lido Key's mangrove tunnels, Sarasota style! Last weekend we went for a great paddle through the famous mangrove tunnels on the bay side of Lido Key, just off Sarasota, Florida. Wildlife is abundant, with fish practically jumping in the boat and many species of birds including herons, osprey, and bald eagle. There are five main tunnels that are some heavily canopies by mangroves, it is almost dark inside! After that, we went to Crescent Beach on Siesta Key.
