 Florida is the lightning capital of the United States. Florida leads the nation in strikes, casualties, injuries and lightning related deaths. An average of  73 people a year are killed by lightning strikes according to the NOAA office. This is the number that is on record. The NOAA suspects it really is about 100 to 120 deaths per year caused by lightning.  There are about 300 lightning related injuries that are reported and many more that go unreported. I was amazed to find out that more people are killed each year from lightning strikes than from Tornados and Hurricanes! In the United States Floods cause more damage to property than any other natural disaster. There are many areas of the country where the structures of homes are not strong enough to withstand flooding. Florida is prone to floods. If you live in Florida you must take precautions to protect  life and your property from flood damage.  There is a misconception that when you bought your house and were told you were not required by your lender to carry flood insurance you to think your home is not in a floodplain. The insurance requirements by lenders is decided by floodplains and how often a particular area floods. In Wellington for instance we are in a 100 year flood plain. Glenn Straub agreed to sell his Palm Beach Polo Equestrian Club to developer Mark Bellissimo for $25 Million. Hopefully this means their lawsuits against each other are over and done with. Tiger Shark Cove was an amazing and triumphant success of showing how residents and businesses of our community here in Wellington, Florida could come together to create a legacy for our children and our children's children for years and years to come. Not only that, this feat was accomplished without taxes. There is a flip side to the luxury Equestrian lifestyle in Wellington Florida. A large part of the economy here is derived from the National Horse Show, The Winter Equestrian Festival and Polo. The Equestrian season that is from October through April here produces 320 tons of horse manure each year.That is 640,000 pounds per day! WOW! That is a lot of poop!  When the rest of the country is part of the greening of America, Wellington may have become brown instead of green! The Village of Wellington town government decided years ago to do something about this problem and passed a rule that you are not allowed to stockpile or spread the horse manure around Wellington. Wellington Florida is home to a cream of the crop Gymnastics School named CATS Gymnastics. * Localism Featured* How do I know that this is a great gymnastics school? My son who will be 5 years old next week started taking Gymnastics classes at CAT's Gymnastics there when he was 6 months old. I started him in the baby/parent classes that start at 6 months and lasted until he was 36 months. When he turned three I no longer had to be in the class with him. He graduated into the Preschool class for ages 3 years to 5 years. This month he is graduating into the 'Big Boys' class for 5-7 year old boys. Up until this month he has been in Co-Ed classes. And the story goes on and on... The Village Of Wellington just shut down their approval of Mische's Stadium Jumping proposal because the approval is only favoring one party- Stadium Jumping! Laurie Cohen decided to bring this up and to delay the vote stating it was only benefiting Stadium Jumping. The Village did approve to move it to vote  at the rehearing on August 20th.  There are landowners who are concerned about what this will do to their property values because of new restrictions it will place on horse arenas. The new ordinance would require the landowners already living in this section of Wellington to have to go before the Village and plead their case for building their horse arenas instead of simply applying for a permit which now is the case. The Village of Wellington just turned down Mark Bellissimo's request for the parking rule change. This rule needed to be changed in order for the Tavern On The Green, Wellington to be re-opened. Jenny LeRoy (Oz) of the famed New York Eatery, Tavern On The Green opened up a sister Tavern On The Green in the Equestrian Club in Wellington Florida. Jenny is an avid rider and comes here during the Equestrian seasons. She went into partnership with Mark Bellissimo who may not have disclosed the nature and the extent of the parking problem. Even from the beginning of the Tavern opening they had problems with the Village of Wellington.
