When the holidays come, it often means getting together with family and friends. We're much more aware that this isn't possible for families with one or more family members in the military. For my family, the next best thing is hearing from ... and then seeing your Navy son (wearing Navy whites and tour guide) on a video as his ship docked in West Palm Beach yesterday. Join the mayor and local TV station as they tour the USS Carr and learn about life in the Navy. When the guys say they are looking forward to stretching their legs, they mean it. There are 3 bunks, top to bottom and very little room to move around, i.e. just enough space to crawl into your bunk bed. I've toured the ship and it's true there are movies running continuously in the dining room. It's also more like your elemen...

Last night, the U.S. Congress passed an extension to the Home Buyer Tax Credit closing deadline, which could have impacted tens of thousands of home buyers across the nation. The extension is included in the Home Buyer Assistance and Improvement Act (H.R. 5623) and will prevent many home buyers nationally from losing their eligibility for a tax credit through no fault of their own. Under this extended legislation that passed last night, these households now have until Sept 30th 2010 to close. Previously, the deadline date was June 30th to close with contracts pending as of April 30th 2010. In Palm Beach County, this will come as some additional relief to home buyers experiencing delays in getting their property financed closed. Most of the delays are a result of a large number of Sho...

Another Realtor win! The City of West Palm Beach has decided not to increase their fire assessment fee on commercial and residential units. This would have meant a fire fee up to $100 per residential unit and commercial faced .11 per square foot which amounted to thousands of dollars for many owners.  The City Commission Chambers were packed! The Realtor Goverment Affairs Committee will take up the issue of addressing the existing fee of $25 per residential unit and .03 per square foot on commercial at the next meeting. The City also plans to propose no millage increase this year.

Farmers Emporium West Palm Beach FL - Freshest Fruits and Vegetables Farmers Emporium located in West Palm Beach FL has some of the freshest fruits and vegetables I have come across in the Palm Beach County area. Besides having some of the freshest fruits and vegetables at Farmers Emporium the prices can't be beat either. Today I stocked up on a ton of fresh fruit; apples, bananas, pears, grapes, a pineapple and even a bag of baby carrots for under $11.  I know I would have easily spent double that amount going to the local food store and I do not think the fruits and vegetables would have been fresher than what they were at the Farmers Emporium. Eating healthier no longer has to be a big expense if you shop at Farmers Emporium in West Palm Beach Florida where the fruit and vegetables ...

As I reported in my last post, I had submitted property comparables to the appraiser for my Seller. As with most of Florida, this area where the home is located has many short sales and foreclosures. It's quite a difficult task coming up with the right price. When you work with FHA lenders, the appraisal price is usually the sale price. At least here it is. And, this is the case with this last sale. Many of the Buyers we've seen are first timers and they have limited funds. Good reasons exist for anyone not to overpay in this market. Some areas of Palm Beach County actually have seen some rise in prices, but it is in pockets throughout the county. North Palm Beach is an area that is currently seeing plenty of sales and they are not short sales. Boca Raton as well. Country Club propertie...

VA Medical Center Barber & Beauty Shop - West Palm Beach FL I recently found out that the VA Medical Center in West Palm Beach FL has a Barber & Beauty Shop, but this Barber Shop is like no other. The staff at the Barber & Beauty Shop is made up of volunteers who donate all of their time and are extremely friendly. All of the proceeds made at the Barber & Beauty Shop are donated directly to the VA Medical Center. The Barber & Beauty Shop at the VA Medical Center is open to the general public and you don't have to be a veteran to use their services. Along with haircuts they also do perms, hair color and hair styling. The hours are limited and I highly recommend scheduling an appointment otherwise it is a first come first serve basis. Barber & Beauty Shop Hours* Monday: 8:00am to 12:30pm...

Foto Friday:  An American Hero Once a month I'm at the VA Medical Center in West Palm Beach FL and every time I'm there I always enjoy seeing this statue.  I have been wanting to capture a picture and yesterday I finally stopped my car long enough to grab this shot, which I should have zoomed in a tad more.  If you can't make it out it's a solider carrying a child on his shoulders.

Nicolas Cage hasn’t been able to find a seller for his house on Los Angeles (floor area of more than 1,000 square m). At first, the actor priced the house at $ 34 mln, later he reduced the price up to $10 mln but without success. The reason for loosing the house was his debts for tax authorities.According to the US press, Cage doesn’t have enough money to keep the house. The actor is blaming his manager for his problems – last year he even brought him to the court, though the manager filed a counter claim and accused of wastage.       Unfortunately, such situations are typical for present day. For example, in West Palm Beach (Florida) there are many foreclosed houses as the situation in the market is really far from ideal. The place is very attractive but the real estate market is overs...
