Georgia Tech High Performance Computing Center Design Georgia Tech has unveiled the latest design for the High Tech Performance Computing Center that will be constructed at 4th and West Peachtree Streets, overlooking Technology Square. The rendering speaks for itself....The design, by renowned Atlanta architect John Portman Associates (think Hyatt, Apparel Mart) will be a massive, 21-story, 750,000 sq. ft tower and data center. The combined buildings will form an arched plaza over storefronts and restaurants. The brick building in the front is a remaining portion of the historic Crum Forster building that preservations fought long and hard to preserve and not have torn down. (Funny side note....that very building was designed by the architect that later started the Architecture program ...

GATech Student Housing Tower PlannedThe apartment building craze that IS Midtown Atlanta these days is not just confined to the "general public." It's also seems to be coming in the form of housing for Georgia Tech! Landmark Properties and Selig Enterprises have proposed a mixed-use student housing project on a 1.7 acre site they have between 3rd and 4th Street on Spring Street. The tower is proposed to be 19 stories with 280 apartments and 11,200 square feet of commercial space."The Standard" as the project has been named, will replace an existing Starbucks and the former Spring4th Complex, which included the venue Quad. The proposed apartments will range in size from one to FIVE, yes you heard that....FIVE bedrooms! Certainly, we know this is a student building. Plans call for the bui...

Welcome to Georgia Tech and Midtown Atlanta! When I first went off to college, it was but a mere 35 miles from my home. I started at Montana State University. I was a bit to insecure about myself to venture to far from the "nest" I guess! And I think I was still trying to figure out what I wanted to be when I grew up. (And maybe I still am?) But after 3 years, I made a HUGE leap, and transferred to the University of Houston and  the Hilton College of Hotel and Restaurant Management. Obviously, since you are on a real estate-related website, I've since changed careers. But I do remember many choice moments in my college days.  I took the extended plan (6 years) to get one degree, but I had a blast doing it. My profession, unlike most of those you will pursue at Georgia Tech, was not 100...

I'm often contacted by parents of GA Tech students looking for off-campus housing options for their son/daughter attending GATech. Most are looking to make an "investment" in their kids future by buying a Midtown Atlanta condo for them to live in while they are attending school. Then, once the schooling is all done, they can sell the condo, and hopefully realize a bit of profit.  The Midtown condo market has quickly changed from the downturn we went through a couple years back. Just try to find a condo (1 bedroom) under $100,000, or a 2 bedroom for under $250,000!! These are the list prices I'm often asked about...and unfortunately, those days are pretty much gone. Now wait a minute. Yes, you CAN find these prices in some places, but they will not be anywhere NEAR the GATech campus, and...

I'm often contacted by parents of Georgia Tech students as they look for alternative living arrangements from the typical dorm situation on campus. And so the question is, what is available in Off Campus Housing Near Georgia Tech University? Well, first off, the rather rapid rebound in the Midtown Atlanta condo market will make finding a "bargain" a real challenge. Also, I find that most parents don't want their son or daughter isolated by themselves, and are looking for a 2 bedroom condominum.  Hit the rewind button about 6 months, to a year, and that was easily possible for $150-175,000. Such is not the case anymore. I search today took me to $250,000 before I was able to find a 2-bedroom close to the Georgia Tech Campus. Cornerstone Village has long been a favorite of Georgia Tech st...

Another Happy Georgia Tech Parent! I've helped numerous parents purchase Midtown Atlanta condos for their son or daughter to live in while attending school! It's a great option over on-campus dorm life, and if purchased at the right time and price, can appreciate. It was a pleasure to help Jim and Carla find a great Cornerstone Village condo for Kara to live in while she attends Georgia Tech. And getting this kind of "thank you" makes it all worth while!     Thom Abbott helped us find my daughter, Kara, a great place to live while attending Georgia Tech. Normally, finding and purchasing a property is stressful and challenging regardless of the circumstance. That stress multiplies when the property is 700 miles away from home and it is for your oldest daughter living away from home for ...

This article originally appeared at MyMidtownMojo.com   Demand for housing is up...pretty much everywhere in the U.S. Midtown Atlanta is no exception as we see a significant decrease in the number of available condos For Sale, and a marked increase in apartment construction. And the same seems to be true for Georgia Tech Student Housing. February 5-28 was the sign-up period for On Campus housing for Returning Students. When you look at the Sign Up Instructions, you'll find the following note: Due to increased campus enrollment and planned hall renovations, any student who will be an undergraduate for Fall 2013 and  enrolled at Tech before Summer 2010 may not be guaranteed housing. The number of returning students who request a room in the initial  application period (February 5 - 28) w...
