I bet most of you could guess that Georgia's state song is Georgia on my mind, but the other bit of "trivia" that I am going to share with you today I bet none of you will actually have known this before you read it.  If any of you did, let me know.  I'll be surprised, but of course I'll take your word for it. Milledgeville Georgia- County Seat of Baldwin County that borders beautiful Lake Sinclair was THE ONLY city ever built exclusively to be a state capital.  I'm sure many of you might have know that Atlanta Georgia was not always our capital.  Milledgeville Georgia served as the capital from 1808 to 1868.  You can tour the former Governor's mansion which also at one time served as the residence for the dean of Georgia State College and University.   You can also tour the Old Capital...

When my Donald and I were out the other night driving around to take Christmas light photos I was behind my friend Jay Reber and I knew it was him because I remembered seeing the photo of his car on Facebook.  He's advertising the Georgia College and State University's 2012 production of "The Nutcracker" which is this weekend. It's  Friday December 7th at 7:00 p.m. Saturday December 8th at 7:00 p.m. Sunday December 9th at 2:00 p.m. You can purchase tickets here. My friend Jay's daughter is Clara's understudy this year.  I hope to be seeing her on the stage in future years.  Abbey used to be one of my Sunday School "kids" and I missed her when Jay took a job at another church and I don't get to see her every week now. I always love The Nurcracker.  I have a beautiful postcard in my box o...

Sometimes things are more important than work.  And one of those things for me is a good book.  And books make lovely gifts too.  So this morning I set out to go to a book signing to pick up a few gifts.  And it happened to be at the perfect place for an author who made Yesterplace a word.  You've got to read how that came about on Susan Lindsley's website.  The signing was at The Red Door.  One of my favorite antique places ever, located on South Wayne street in historic Downtown Milledgeville.  I love The Red Door.  You can taste some great wines from nearby Courson's Winery. Today we picked up a bottle of their newest creation, Pear Wine.  I have often had it at the local Japanese Steak House, Little Tokyo,  when we visit, but had never bought a bottle.  Perhaps it will go well with ...

Back in the day when my "car phone" was attached to my car I had a cell company called Airtouch.  As my phones have evolved over the last 20  years so has the celluar company. They were purchased by Cellular 1 and then eventually they were purchased by Verizon.  And the folks at Verizon with one rare exception have always been super helpful to me and today when the gigger wasn't working that came with my new iphone5 they made it right. Last night my phone was on the wall charger ALL night and still didn't fully charge.  { Editorial note after Jane's comment.... GIGGER is the little square box in the photo left.  My USB plugs into the gigger that plugs into the wall.... Mine was brokern} That's just wrong.  I plugged it into my car on the way to work and it charged WAY faster and a big g...

I recently heard a conversation where an agent was totally frustrated after going to a home several times with potential purchasers only to have them decide it wasn't the right house for them.  Now don't misunderstand me, I think of my time as valuable too, BUT in the end it matters most to me that my clients be happy with their real estate transaction.  If buyers feel pushed into a house they don't truly love you likely won't be getting any future referrals or testimonies from them. Case in point I have a current contract for some buyers I've been working with for a few months.  They have made offers and they have canceled contracts.  A lot of paper work has been involved.  But if a buyer finds fault with a home upon inspection and feels it's not something they are willing to address a...

6 Bedroom & 4.5 Baths Airport subdivision.  The location is fabulous and the best part is the view.  Very few homes offer a better view than this one. But if you are looking for a dynomite view call me and I'll help you find one too.  I have a few others with great views available right now. Search the MLS right here on Lane Realty's website.

I had heard mixed reviews of the new Longhorn Steakhouse in Milledgeville.  I usually wait until the "new" wears off a little before I try a place.  I made the mistake of a new burger joint once on the first day and well my burger was still frozen in the middle and it was a place that claimed their burgers are NEVER frozen, so I just made it a personal rule to wait a while until the bugs are worked out.  It's the same reason I don't immediately download the latest and greatest updates for my phone and browsers. We were greeted immediately... I liked.  We were told we'd have a 15 minute wait... acceptable.  The wait however turned out to be at least half an hour.  And while I wouldn't have been opposed to waiting half an hour, I really wish they'd been more realistic about the wait time....

I recently closed on my best sale of the this year.  The house had been on the market for more than a year with three different real estate firms.  It had a combo box instead of a secure supra lockbox, so any number of agents have had access to the key and could have given the code out or even let the person they were showing the house to see the code.  The house had an alarm.  The alarm code was also IN the lockbox.  (shaking my head).  When we closed we only had the one key from the lockbox.  It took over a week after closing for the listing agent to mail other keys to me. In total we were given 3 keys.   Were there only three keys?  Perhaps we have all of them, but I can't be sure and my gut says no. So I suggested to the buyer that he re-key or replace the locks.  My buyer hasn't mo...

Downtown Milledgeville on October 20th, 2012  you'll find great music, great food, arts and crafts, lots of family stuff for the kids and basically just an all day long great time and party.  You don't want to miss it so make plans now to attend.  The logo above is also a link the the DeepRoots Festival website.  The event runs from 10 a.m. until Midnight.  Tickets are $5.00 from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. and $15.00 after 5:00 p.m. You can bring a lawn chair.  You cannot bring your pets.  (Guide Dogs excepted)  And yes, this festival was previously called the Sweet Water Festival.  It was renamed in 2008.

Milledgeville, Georgia is rich in history. You can see so much of it by guided tour to give you a wonderful lesson in history and a view of some lovely architecture that has survived for nearly 200 years. Georgia Military College and Prep school campus houses the Old Capital and Muesum (which is on the first floor).  Tours are available. Of course you can start your Milledgeville tour on the famed trolley.    The stops vary, but it really is the best way to get a tour of the downtown area and see some wonderful historical sites.  A special tour comes up in October for Halloween, but I'll fill you in on that one a bit later in the month. If you love gardens and flowers you will need to see Lockerly Hall and Arboretum.  Their fall plant sale is just around the corner and it's a must if yo...

The old capital building that you see here is in the center of the campus of Georgia Military College now.  But the federalist style building is the former capital building of Georgia.  Milledgeville was the capital of Georgia from 1803 to 1868  And even though the building is on Campus of GMC it houses the Old Capital Museum that you can visit.  It's just a short walk to downtown Milledgeville where you will find several fabulous restaurants and some wonderful shops.  I love to spend an evening dining out downtown and walking around and enjoying the beautiful stately trees and wonderful architecture.  If you are ever near the central part of Georgia, it's a stop worth taking.  There is a wonderful trolley tour available that I hightly recommend.  In fact, the ghost trolley tour ticket...

If you read yesterday's post you know I was having a bad day with my Sears/washing machine/repair.  And you know that it started weeks ago now.  In that time period I also had a different kind of experience with a another company.  And from the actual service department to the folks who sent the inquiry survey everyone was professional, kind and compassionate. Which is wonderful and refreshing. My first call to Toyota was on the 28th of June.  Dead battery and it wouldn't jump start.  Just clicking.  It was late after hours, but I happened to sell the Service Department manager a house last year and called him on his cell.  He checked and the battery was covered under warranty I just needed to get it to him.  Towing wasn't covered under the warranty.  So the next day I was going to go ...

Do you remember one of those days that you look back and can laugh about, but at the time you were an emotional wreck and everything that could was going wrong?  Well that day is today.  I took the afternoon off and spent it having a little time with my husband.  Today is our anniversary and he was scheduled to work.  I wasn't scheduled to work, yet here I am at the office.  (I told you I was having one of "those" days). So yesterday when I got through hanging out with my Donald in the afternoon and having an early dinner we headed home by way of the grocery store and then my office so we could pick up Donald's truck Only his truck wouldn't start.  And it wouldn't't jump start with the jumper box.  I was about half way home when he called.  So I went on home and let the dogs out and too...

There a lot of business pages out there that this or that business has on Facebook.  I have one for Lane Realty.  But today at a broker's luncheon with members of the Milledgeville MLS we decided we needed a "community page" where not just agents can post listings, but other local businesses will be invited to participate.  No requirements to join.  We are going to be keeping the negative stuff away.  It's NOT the place to post a bad review if that's what you want to do.  But instead a place to share events, specials, information. Live or own property in Milledgville or Lake Sinclair?  Own a business in our community?  Join the group Milledgeville Lake Sinclair Real Estate Community.  We invite anyone to join and post information there.  ReMax broker and President of the MLS Quay Fuller...

The other day working with buyers a statement was made to me about House A being worth more than House B because house B was "near the airport".  Not so fast.  Perhaps that is true of homes near Hartsfield in Atlanta, but it's NOT true of homes in the "airport" area of Milledgeville.  People brag about being in the "airport area" like people brag about being in the country club area or a golfing community.  The airport area is to Milledgeville what Beverly Hills is to LA. Also recently a buyer said that he wanted to be at a home he was looking at so he could hear a plane take off.  Well just moments after he said that we saw a plane taking off, but we hadn't heard a thing.  It's not like the airport has jumbo jets or passenger planes.  It only has small planes that privately owned. As y...

Not long ago I came into my office one morning and flipped on a light switch, but nothing happened.  Not good.  Next room flipped the light switch... okay better.  I had my husband come and replace a bulb in the fixture that didn't come on and still nothing.  So that's when I got on the phone and called a friend who had just hired someone to do some electrical work for her.  A personal recommendation is SO much better than the yellow pages, don't you think? I think so.  I hired Joey McNair of McNair Electric. Well it just so happened that when I called him he was on his way out of town for a few days.  But guess what he said, "do you want me to recommend someone else since I can't get there for a few days?"  Now that's a stand up guy.  Rather than me sitting in the dark, he was willing ...
