History can be fun, especially in Savannah. For you historians out there, Savannah has a lot to offer. With 275 years of history to explore, you will be kept quite busy.     Museums:Juliette Gordon Low Birthplace is National Girl Scout center. However, it is more than that. It is where the founder of the Girl Scouts was born. Thus, it was named after her.  Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum was set up to honor the 8th Air Force that was activated after Pearl Harbor. They were activated at the National Guard Armory on Bull Street. There are so many photographs, model planes, and artifacts in this museum. Some displays are quite striking. This is a must see for anyone! Roundhouse Railroad Museum is in the actual building as headquarters for the Central of Georgia Railway. However, it was aban...

Ardsley Park is in midtown Savannah which makes its location ideal for access to downtown, the beach and the southside. Ardsley Park was Savannah's first subdivision, dating back to the early 20th century. Many buyers have chosen the central location because of the charming character of the homes, the strong neighborhood feel and the beatiful trees and shrubbery that decorate the area.Home prices range from the 200s to over a million. There are a lot of small bungalows scattered among medium sized homes and mansions. There is an eclectic mixture of homestyles which makes the area a visually interesting place to live.

After the Civil war there was a movement away from the English styles of Georgian and Adam towards a more classical style. Thomas Jefferson was a big part of the change with his interest in Romanesque design followed by what came to dominant the American home style for about 30 years -- approximately 1830 to 1860 - The Greek Revival. This was the beginning of the Romance period of home-building led by Benjamin H. Latrobe, a prominent architect of that era. Archeological studies at the time revealed Greece architecture as the inspiration for Rome, and Greece was fighting a war for indedendence along then that we could indentify with - all this led to the popularity of the Greek style.A prominent feature of the Greek Revival style was the full length columns with classical captials - D...

Recently, I read a quote from Zig Ziglar, that I've been thinking a lot about lately - "Your business is never really good or bad "out there."  Your business is either good or bad right between your own two ears. - Zig Ziglar Attitude is everything, isn't it?  I realized that my "sphere of influence" will support me and refer me more often if my attitude is posiitive and they know I will always look after their "Best Interest", no matter what market the news media says we're in.  The "Key to Success" in our business remains, and always will be, rooted in the positive mental attitude we exhibit every time we answer the phone or go on appointment. And to quote Zig once more - "It is easy to get to the top after you get through the crowd at the bottom."

Our beautiful city has made another list.  There is a new book out called "1,000 Places to See in the U.S.A. and Canada Before You Die".  Yet another great reason to live here.  The book classifies Savannah as "a living museum", "America's best walking city", and "an urban masterpiece".  If you live here and haven't made a trip downtown to walk the beautiful squares in awhile, hop in the car and head on down. My advice would be to go early on a Saturday or Sunday morning - not much car traffic, lots of beautiful singing birds, and that nice calm that you only see in the early hours. If you are planning a visit, you won't be disappointed. Wear comfortable shoes and bring your camera, bring your smiles, and have a great visit. http://www.DaleyRealtor.com

There are many reasons to love Savannah, but one of the main reasons is access to the ocean and the rivers. Some of the most beautiful properties in Savannah are waterfront or marshview properties. There are many concerns when considering a waterfront property: Is it deepwater? Is it a tidal creek? What size boat can it handle? Does the property have a dock in good repair? A boat hoist? How easy is it to access the ocean? Can a dock be built if there isn't one? Deepwater properties are usually the most expensive because you have access to boating at all times, whereas with a tidal creek you are dependent on the tide being in or out. However, a tidal creek may be the best option if you don't want to pay the high price of deepwater property - you just have to time your boating activities ...

Ardsley Park is a popular area, and with its centralized location, its beautiful trees and shrubbery, its comfortable neighborhood feel. It will continue, for years to come, to be one of Savannah's most sought after areas to live. Ardsley Park was Savannah's first subdivision, with planning starting in the early 1900s and development in the 1930s. Ardsley Park proper is a small area, but over time a larger area has been called and considered Ardsley Park, between Bull Street on the west and Waters Ave on the east, and from Victory Drive north and Derenne Ave. south. The neighborhood has a wide array of eclectic styles, influenced mainly by various European designs, which is the main appeal - diversity.Over the last ten to fifteen years homebuyers have increasingly chosen this area, and ...

It's not your typical zoo. There aren't any bars, cement floors, or paved pathways. The variety of animals is more limited. However, the animals are in an environment that more closely resembles their natural habitat. In my opinion, it was just as good if not better than some of the bigger typical zoos. It isn't even called a "zoo". It is the Oatland Island Educational Center. You follow animal footprints on asphalt to the start of a 2 mile path through the woods and over a marsh. There are wooden plank bridges and walk ways that appear throughout. On some of the planks, you will notice writing. People can donate money to the center for animal care and receive recognition on a plank. The marsh view is beautiful. Their lake is breath-taking with a water fountain in the middle. The cougar...

When St, Patrick's Day rolls around, most people let it pass by. There are a few people who will wear their green if they are Irish and orange if they are Catholic. I have never heard of a place that actually goes all out and celebrates it like they do here in Savannah. There are celebrations starting on the 10th of March and continuing on until the big day. There will be a Tybee Island parade on the 10th. On the 16th, there will be a St. Patty's Day celebration on the River and it will last until the 18th. The big parade will begin at 10:15 am on the 17th. As if all the celebrating isn't enough, they die their water GREEN. That's right. If you want to witness one of the largest St. Patrick's Day celebrations, you need to come to Savannah. If you come for the weekend, it certainly won't ...

Avoiding Financial Stress By asking the right questions, and knowing exactly what your needs are, you can find the right loan for you. There are certain approaches that you can take while mortgage shopping that can cost or save you money. It is still true that the better qualifications you have, the lower your interest rate will be. However, there are mortgages available for almost everyone; it's the interest rates or the down payments that vary. Before speaking with a lender, know what monthly dollar amount you feel comfortable committing to. Then when you discuss mortgage pre-approval with your lender, it is easier for you to determine the monthly amount and what value of home the monthly amount translates into. Do not put yourself in the position where you will be paying more each mo...

Use a Buyer's Agent It's important that you choose an experienced agent who is there for you. Your agent should be actively finding you potential homes, keeping you informed of the entire process, negotiating furiously on your behalf, and answering all of your questions with competence and speed. First, find an agent who represents you and not the seller. This is beneficial during the negotiation process. If you are working with a buyer's agent, he or she is required not to tell the seller of your top choice. In addition, he or she is also focused on getting you the lowest asking price. Also, when you use a buyer's agent, you will see more properties. Not only are they plugged into their Multiple Listing Service, but also they are actively finding homes that are listed as FSBO, or homes...

Each month, we get the monthly non-farm payroll report from the Labor Department. No other piece of news is more closely watched by the markets and the Federal Reserve than this employment data. The report for January showed that the unemployment rate climbed to a four-month high and wage growth was a little slower than expected. Bad news on the economy is good news for mortgage rates. In short, inflation is bad for everyone. If the economy is growing too fast and prices are rising rapidly, your money will buy you less goods and services going forward. Slow and steady growth is what the Federal Reserve wants and you should as well. The monthly employment report is a good leading indicator on the overall health of the economy. If employers are adding workers, having to pay more per hour t...

Coming from Pennsylvania, I have never been exposed to "communities" or "subdivision". Where I am from, you won't find a subdivision with a community pool or playground. We simply have homes of all different shapes and sizes on streets. So it was a little overwhelming for me when we first moved to Georgia. Savannah is a beautiful area filled with history and different styles. Finding your way around and where you want to live can be a difficult task. I thought I would try to break down different places for different styles of people. The laid back and easy going person will do well on the islands. People there like to take their time and enjoy life. They have great views and wonderful scenery all around. When you drive out there, you feel like you have been transported to an exotic isl...
