As one door closes, another opens in its place.  As I started to look over upcoming events, I ran across a blurb that the Snellville Days 'Orphan Vehicle Association' Car Show had been canceled due to "unforeseen circumstances."  I have no idea what those circumstances might be, and I hope that the OVA is able to recover and present the show again next year.  But, as a car guy looking for someplace to take the boys, I ran across a replacement.  Smoke Rise Baptist Church has been holding a Car, Truck and Motorcycle Show since 1999.  And the date this year for the show is May 2nd.   Registration begins at 9:00am.  Judging begins at Noon.  Trophies will be presented at 3:00pm.   I know that I will be there early... we have a T-ball game at the church at 9:30.  We will probably come back la... 04/27/2009

The Stone Mountain area average home price continues to take a dive. This area is seeing a lot of foreclosures. One positive thing is that things seem to be selling.  People are taking advantage of the low prices.  It is truly amazing at the amount of house you can get for the money over here. Total days on market shot up to 116 and the sales price to original list price ratio continues to trend lower, now around 75%. The numbers below are for single family detached homes in FMLS area 42. I honestly feel like as citizens, we can do more to help the gas shortage here.  We can start by only driving if it's absolutely necessary (i.e to get to work, the doctor, etc.).  When at all possible, please, please, please car pool or use Public Transit.  It's much less expensive to use public transit than it is to try to drive anyway.  If you must drive, you can use twitter to find out which gas stations have gas before you leave the house.  According to this blog, http://www.buzzbrockway.com/?p=365, you can use the tag #atlgas to find out which stations have gas.  Just go to http://search.twitter.com and type in #atlgas and then you will see all of the information related to the gas shortage.  The most important thing I can say is please be patient.  My husband actually saw a scuffl... 09/28/2008

This gentleman is trying to get a weeknight golf league started in Stone Mountain.  He wants to start it at about 5:30 PM each night.  He has not picked a golf course yet, but he's thinking about using either Stone Mountain or Mystery Valley.  He's going to be getting discounted green fees on each course.  He says that it will be a 9-hole "dogfight".  For those of you that are wondering what that is, it is just a different way of scoring.  It just rewards different point values for eagles, birdies, pars, and bogies. I've been watching some of the NBC and CBS coverage of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.  My wife is a (semi)reformed band geek, so she wanted to see the parade.  Also, since WCC (World's Cutest Child) likes parades, we had a triple reason to tune in (1 for the wife, and 2 for the kid).   So, we tuned in, looking forward to seeing some floats and some bands.  But, what do we get?  Broadway show tunes and promos for upcoming NBC shows...  Maybe CBS will have some of the actual parade...  Nope.  Instead, the cast of CBS's Daytime programming just "drop by" for a chat... between musicians promoting their new albums. So, for both of the broadcasts of the parade, all they did was self-promote and show commercial acts.  Stephenson High School from Stone Mountain got about 10 seconds on CBS.... 11/22/2007
