Currahee Military Reunion Weekend Toccoa, Georgia October 5-7, 2012   The 12th Annual Currahee military Weekend serves to honor the men of Camp Toccoa. Pull out your American flags and your red, white and blue and let’s celebrate our Camp Toccoa Veterans. It is estimated that as many as 17,000 soldiers from the 501st, 506th, 511th, 517th Parachute Infantry Regiments trained at Camp Toccoa during the two years that they were located at the base of Currahee Mountain. With the paratrooper population being greater than the town’s population, one can imagine the impact of the soldiers on the community. So you have been looking for a place to escape and relax? Well look no more, I have found just the right place for you in the foothills of Georgia. Even though I travel alot to Toccoa Georgia, I don't always get to stop and see all the sites and enjoy the many offerings of this lovely area of Northeast Georgia. Last week my sister and I decided to be selfish and take the day for ourselves. So we did and down the road we went. It was a beautiful day so we took all the back roads to enjoy the lay of the land. June 5,2010 Circle of Hope - The Circle of Hope, a local non-profit agency's Ride and Run Against Domestic Violence will be held at Sam Pitts Park in Clarkesville. There will be a one mile fun run and 5K road race for running aficionados, a 2-1/2 hour motorcycle ride has been added for biders. All three events will begin and end at Sam Pitts Park.  Need a Break..Take the Choo-Choo to NE Georgia and Enjoy the ride. The train departs the Atlanta Amtrak Station at 8:15 PM each evening headed for NE Georgia. Don't eat before you board, you will want to enjoy dinner in the dining car, the menu is aways great and you meet interesting people from all walks of life. I have been enjoying this ride for 2 years. Beats fighting the traffic. It is totally stress free. After spending time to relax and rejuvinate in the beautiful foothills of of NE Georgia, I take the return back to Atlanta at 6:15 AM. Great to get up early and enjoy the sunrise eating breakfast in the dining car and checking out all the wonderful little towns you would miss by driving the interstate.  Mother's Day is to honor Mom and all she has done for you. Spending time with Mom on this day and doing things Mom enjoys is the best gift. Mom loves Chinese Food so after the Mother Day Celebration at Church on Sunday we are all gathering at the Bamboo House II, 610 Big A Road, Toccoa, Georgia. There is others in town but this is her favorite. The Bamboo House II has a full menu of poultry, beef and seafood but Mom loves the buffet. She will enjoy sharing time with the family and good food. A history of Toccoa:  Paul Anderson exhibit, the history and impact Letourneau had in Stephens county, WWII exhibit included the stables used by American soldiers while in England (which included a petrified rat that was found in the wall, ewe!  The original foot lockers of some soldiers, letters written between families and soldiers, an old love letter, soldier uniforms, military award metals,  various weapons, stories of the 101st Airborne, Easy Company and some of the memorabilia from the HBO series "Band of Brothers."    There is a gift shop that sells historical books, patches, maps, etc.
