Haiku Maui is great for growing unusual flowers like these Harpulia Harpulia Zanguebaria is not something you'll find in every garden, even in Hawaii.  Also known as the Velvet Seed Tree, Harpulia does well in the mild climate of Haiku Maui.  It's a bush or small tree with compound leaves, and it doesn't have a striking appearance until the seed pods form, when it's covered with bright red pods bearing fuzzy little black pearl sized seeds.   Here on Maui you can find the seeds made into jewelry at the local craft fairs, strung into bracelets and necklaces.  The unique velvety seeds look very pretty and feel soft against the skin. It's SPRINGTIME and time to get your garden planted! If you like to garden then springtime is the time of year to get outside and plant your garden, or at least start planning one.  Clean up the yard and turn the soil, and put some plants in the ground. Here in Hawaii we are a little spoiled since we can grow a garden all year round.  But don't think that means we can harvest bumper crops any old time of the year, because just like anywhere else, we also have growing seasons.  Our winters might be mild, but the days are short and often rainy in Haiku, so not really ideal for growing all things.  Some things will do just fine, while others need more sunshine.  After a few years you learn what does well and what doesn't. When life gives you lemons, make lemon meringue pies, with Haiku lemons. Winter time is lemon season here on our Haiku Maui farm.  Big fat bumpy lemons.  Juicy lemons.  I don't make pies very often, but once a year I'll make some lemon meringue pies, or tarts as it happened this time.  Yes they were very good.  An even better variation is to use some lilikoi juice along with the lemon juice, so you get lilikoi lemon meringue!  That is the absolute best.   You can grow lemons, oranges, tangerines, grapefruit and other citrus in Haiku Maui.  They like the wet weather especially, so you'll get a bumper crop once in a while.   Look at this grapefruit tree just dripping with beautiful ruby red grapefruits.   Haiku Maui HI 96708 vacant land for sale  ~  Haiku Maui HI 96708 homes for sale     ... 03/03/2013

Haiku Maui HI 96708 - market report for vacant land sales in 2012 What sold in 2012?  There were 29 vacant land listings sold in our Maui MLS, compared to only 10 in 2011. This is complicated by the fact that the lowest priced sale was really 3 separate parcels rolled into one sale.  For the sake of simplicity, we'll just leave it at that. 29 sales ranging in price from $160,000 to $854,000 average sale price was $413,260. median sale price was $387,500. DOM varied from 0 to 1908  lot size ranged from a 1/4 acre to 14 acres 10 of the lots came with Maui County water meters 1 lot was oceanfront (cliff)  2011 had only 10 vacant land sales in Haiku!
