Keanae Arboretum - home to some monster trees on the way to Hana Maui It was an adventure in Real Estate yesterday, driving to Kipahulu Maui with some great clients and their 5 little dogs!  We stopped at the Keanae Arboretum to stretch our legs and walk into the magnificent forest.  It's one of the highlights on the way to Hana, but it's easy to miss if you're not paying attention. Just before the turn-off for Keanae Peninsula on the left, there's a gate on the right which takes you into the Keanae Arboretum.  It's a nice easy trail that meanders alongside a stream, with big trees and tropical specimens all around. The lushness of this jungle is captivating and you can learn the names of the trees and plants along the way.  I just learned that the red spider lilies are called Queen Emm... 11/16/2012

Keanae Congregational Church - Keanae, Maui Hawaii Take a side trip from the road to Hana and drive into the village of Keanae for a glimpse of the real "old Hawaii" that still exists in some corners of Maui.   This area is known for traditional taro farming with fresh mountain stream water running through the paddies or loi.   The natural beauty here is superb!  The shoreline is rugged, with black volcanic lava rocks jumbled together.  Waves crash on the rocks.  Coconut palms abound. The Lanakila Ihiihi O Iehova Ona Kaua Church is a beautiful old stone church that was established in 1860.  It was the only building in this area to survive the devastating tsunami of April 1, 1946. Maui's Hana Ranch finds a buyer - pending sale in the works The word is out and there's a buyer for the Hana Ranch in Hana Maui, listed for $55,000,000.  Bio-Logical Capital is the company that has inked a deal for the purchase, and details are being worked out now.  Bio-Logical Capital has offices in Denver, San Francisco and Honolulu.  The retired Deputy Director of the state Department of Land & Natural Resources, Guy Kaulukukui, is now the senior VP for Hawaii initiatives of Bio-Logical Capital.  The company claims to be a land investment, development and conservation minded company, and they plan to maintain the cattle ranching aspect of the Hana Ranch.   Included in the sale: 4,500 acres with many parcels small and large approximately 3 miles of ocean frontage approximately 1200 h... 08/18/2012

Aloha Friday - Pictures from Hana Maui HI 96713 I did the drive to Hana Maui yesterday... there and back that is.  I needed to take some pictures and video of a listing, for a mainland client.  It's a house and cottage on 9 acres, in a quiet setting up above the coastline, and surrounded with jungle and tropical flowers.  But more about that later. What a beautiful place Hana is, and what a great day it was.  It's just so peaceful and relaxing there, and it made me want to stay.  Got a lot of nice pictures and want to share some now...   The little island is off the coast of Hana, but I don't remember the name of it. Hana Bay Maui - YouTube video of the bay Not long ago we drove to Hana Maui.  If you've ever done that drive, you'll remember it!  Once we get to Hana we like to go down by the bay and grab a bite at Tutu's Snack Shop.  Sure it's overpriced, but look at the beautiful setting by the ocean.  I grabbed my Flip video camera while the burgers were cooking and got a little footage of the Sunday scene.  There's a lot of history at this peaceful spot in Hana.   You might have heard that Oprah Winfrey owns some property here in Hana.  It's true, and she knows a good thing when she sees it.  We came to check out an oceanfront property for sale, and I'll be posting some more pictures and video of that when time permits.  If I get lots of time I'll even torture you with video of the road to Hana! The Great Maui Whale Festival!   February 7-28, 2009   Maui celebrates the Great Maui Whale Festival, and 2009 with, Run for the Whales, Parade of Whales, Whale Day Celebration, the Great Whale Count and more!  For more information go to www.greatmauiwhalefestival.org  Each winter 4,000 humpback whales come to Maui each year to mate, give birth and nurture their new born to our delight.   The PGA Tour Mercedes-Benz Championship finished up this week end.  Congratulation goes out to the winner,  Geoff Ogily.   The 2009 annual Haiku Flower Festival will be held on March 14, 2009 at the Haiku Community Center on Hana Hwy.   This is a big North Shore event, with food, entaintment, flowers and crafts.  A fun event for the whole family.   Couple of note worthy events at Maui Arts & Cultural C... 02/08/2009

The Road to Hana is one of Maui's most famous tourist attractions. This windy road with numerous one way bridges accesses the beautiful community of Hana on the east end of Maui. The road traverses some of the most spectacular terrain on Maui with lush rainforest, cascading water falls, gorgeous ocean vistas and panoramas of the jagged east Maui coast. For almost two years, the Road to Hana experience was incomplete. In October of 2006, an earthquake with an epicenter just off the coast of the Big Island shook the Hawaiian Islands. The quake resulted in limited damage on Maui, but the Southeast corner of the island felt the heaviest shocks. The shaking was strong enough to damage one of the bridges past Hana.   Hana Ranch on Maui has landed on the market - for $65M.  That's a whole lot of clams for 4,500 acres in one of the most beautiful spots on earth.
