Sales volume is up 38% over the same time last year. Average prices remain fairly constant, however, it is noteworthy that the low sales prices this year were 20% lower and the highs were 32% higher than in 2009. Last night Chris Evert mingled and talked with members of the Kapalua Cluband at the Kapalua Beach Club.  Located on the grounds of the Ritz-Carlton Club and Residences, Kapalua, this sweet little spot provided an intimate gathering place for a Q&A session with the tennis great.  I was impressed with her humor and candor as she fielded questions that ranged from her take on current players, fame, nutrition, and legends tournaments.  When asked the question that seemed to delight her the most, "who are the greatest people you've had the opportunity to meet?", she responded with George Bush Sr., who she greatly respects as a person, and Billie Jean King, for her visionary and pioneering efforts for women's sports.  When asked about fame, she replied that the hardest part was a lack of pri...

Stroll historic Lahaina and enjoy holiday specials in many oceanview restaurants and town shops. For an old-fashioned Independence Day celebration, listen to a variety of bands play in a free concert on the oceanfront Lahaina Library lawn starting at 5 pm. A fireworks display is scheduled for 8 pm. Fireworks can be viewed from charter boats in Lahaina Harbor and on land throughout LahainaTown.

If you sleep in late on the morning of your weekend long run you'll pay for it later when you are slogging along in the Lahaina heat.  After 9 AM Front Street is a bit more crowded so you wind up running in the street to avoid the window shopping tourists.  This morning our late start turned out to be a bonus.  It is the morning of the Kamehameha Day parade.  Front Street was closed to traffic and locals took up the best viewing spots with the beach chairs and breakfasts.  We ran past the staging area with its lei covered floats, red convertibles waiting for the beauties they would carry, decked out riders on their costumed horses and everything that goes with them. Living in Lahaina From time to time, when I meet folks while I am traveling to the mainland and back, I hear that they could never live on an island, or they would fear having ‘island fever’ if they moved to Maui. We are all different, which is good, because if everyone I met wanted to live in Maui it would be quite crowded! But it’s difficult for me to understand the concept of ‘island fever’ since I have everything I need or want in Maui (with the exception of having my children and mom living near me, which I am hoping to change). My husband and I live in Lahaina Town, on the west side of Maui. We work most of the time, since we own our real estate brokerage and we are quite busy. But when we can get to some of the best beaches for snorkeling and swimming within minutes, walk to see ...
