Paia Gelato moves up the street to a brand new location on the Hana Highway.  This newly constructed green building also houses Simmer Style which relocated from the Shops at Paia Bay.  Businesses are shuffling around with so many more commercial spaces for rent in this little beach town on Maui's north shore.  Spaces are filling up, while other spaces remain empty. The new Paia Gelato location where the old gas station used to be.What else is new in Paia? Hana Provisions has closed the door and moved out.  I guess it wasn't so easy to run a farm-to-table restaurant after all.  Paia Surf Company is a new shop on Baldwin Ave in the great big building in between Milagros and Alice in Hulaland. Paia Maui market snapshot - what's for sale in Dec 2016What's for sale in this north shore beach town right now at the end of 2016?  Including land, condos and houses, there's a diverse selection and a big price range.  Everybody wants to live close to the beaches and not too far from Costco and the airport too.  With limited new construction in the area the supply is tight with mostly resales.  Driving under the rainbow, Maui's north shore21 residential listings priced from $485,000 to $21,500,000 with only 6 homes under $1M.  The cheapest listing is a 2BD/1.5BATH Skill Village short sale home which has been reduced from $510,000 to $485,000. Paia Maui Hawaii 96779 - it's a small market, but it has some very high priced real estate. Currently the starter homes begin around $480,000 and the oceanfront listings start at $4,000,000 and go up over $21,000,000.  Ocean and beachfront offerings make up about half of the real estate listings market, but not the selling market.  In the past 12 months, out of 38 closed residential sales only 5 were oceanfront totalling over $35,000,000.  While the number of oceanfront sales are low, the total dollar volume was more than half of the total dollar volume for all sales.New listings in Paia for September 2016 to date:30 Nihi Place - 2BD/1BA 664 sf home listed for $550,000. At the Maui Country Club in Spreckelsville they are doing so well with their family dinner nights that they are announcing a new "adults only" dinner night every Thursday.  Please leave the little ones at home so the adults can have a quiet evening enjoying some of the great food that Chef Sean Christensen prepares.What are the other dinner nights? Fresh fish in Paia Maui Hawaii - Check out the fresh fish truck parked at the edge of Paia town the other day.  Plenty of room to pull over and see what they have to offer.Paia is a little beach town on the north shore of Maui and plenty of people here have boats so they can get in the water and catch some great tasting local fish: mahi-mahi ahi, or yellow fin tuna ono - which translates to "delicious" in Hawaiian You're in for a real treat when you eat any of these.  Mahi-mahi is the staple fish you'll find in almost any restaurant here, cooked many ways including good old fish and chips.  Ahi is usually what you'll get when you have raw fish sashimi.  Ono is great cooked up in many ways, and just a little firmer than Mahi.If you can't be bothered to cook, there are a lot of great rest... 05/29/2016

The Butterfly Effect was started by a young woman on Maui, Tatiana Howard, to help inspire other women to get out there and have fun in the water, and to contribute to local charities in their communities.  This annual event has grown into a well attended celebration here on Maui and other locations in the world.  10th Annual Butterfly Effect Maui from The Butterfly Effect + Tatiana on Vimeo.Just last month a group of women came together to participate in a SUP paddle day on the north shore. This new addition to Paia's art scene is a fun painted wall mural in the public parking lot when you first enter town.  Painted in the spring of 2016 with help from the kids at the Paia Youth and Cultural Center.Paia Maui is a little beach town on the north shore, with lots of cool shops and restaurants.  It's on the Hana Highway which is one of the major roads that circumnavigates the island, so it's really easy to find.
