Being trapped can spell your doom. As children, we would play with trapping people and being trapped. I remember being carried in a picnic blanket by my uncle Dave, a makeshift sack with me inside, swinging in an arc as he strode across a field one Summer long ago. We often think of a house as something to keep things out. A house protects us from the rain and the cold, from wild animals, and from other people-- by keeping them out. Elementary, dear Watson. That's why we live indoors. But there are times when you really don't want to be inside your house. When it's on fire, for example. History's full of of burning buildings with people trapped inside. The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory. Our Lady of the Angels. 9/11. National building standards are written with fire hazards in mind. Standa...

Chicago Illinois Lincoln Park is an area on the North Side of town. It is named after Lincoln Park where the great free zoo is and a nice place to visit and walk around. The community is bordered by Lake Michigan and Diversy Parkway on the North, and North Avenue on the south and the Chicago River on the west. The fine schools include Francis Parker School and DePaul University. The neighborhood has many stores and places to dine of all different ethnic types and a high walking score. Q:  What is a GFCI?  What does it do?  Why do I need it?   A:  A GFCI is a type of outlet.  The initials stand for Ground Fault Circuit Interruption.  It's a nifty little device that can save your life. Q:  Why do I need one?  I got circuit breakers already.  Why should I get something on top of that? A:  Circuit breakers don't do the same thing as a GFCI.  The circuit breakers are over-current protection devices.  They trip when too much current is being drawn through a particular thickness of wire.  The smallest breakers in the house are typically 15 amps.  Larger breakers serve the air conditioners, ranges, and other larger electric appliances. I think of circuit breakers, primarily, as property-saving devices.  They're there for fire prevention.  It is entirely possible to get elect...
