Quick Links I have received requests for more information on Deer Park. So here goes. Deer Park is located in Lake County and forms part of the 60010 zip code but does have it's own village. The village hall is located in the old Vehe Farm off Cuba Rd. The majority of Deer Park is located on the east side of Ela Rd and North of Lake-Cook Road. There is another area west of Ela on the west side of the rail tracks beyond Braemar subdivision.. Deer Park Illinois Market Data. First I must preface this data by pointing out that some homes listed for sale in Deer Park are tagged as being Barrington. I honestly have no idea why Realtors choose to do this because Deer Park is Deer Park! I lived in Deer Park for 5 years, only leaving when we moved to Florida for a year, and it is such a nice pla...

When I was a child, everyday I would wake up and go outside.  I would stay out all day and stay out as late as I could.  The weather didn't make that much of a difference.  I grew up in the Northern Illinois Suburbs. Over the years with video games, the computer, tv etc. times have changed.  Kids spend in my opinion too much time inside.  Deer Parks Vehe Farm Foundation has joined a national effort to get kids to spend more time outside.  June 22nd is the kickoff at Vehe Farm for the event called "Leave No Child Inside--Bringing to the Barrington/Lake Zurich Area the National Dialogue on Nature-Deficit Disorder."All are invited to participate in the program, adults, children, business, education & any other leaders in the area.  There are lectures for the adults while the children are l...

There are many ponds like this one in Deer Park, this happens to be the view from my deck.  No motorized boats allowed, but paddle boats and canoes are abundant.  Fishing is also a favorite sport, as many of the ponds are stocked.  Ponds are owned by surrounding residents, conservancy or a combination.

A rustling in the woods, then a splash and look at what I saw.  There is so much wildlife in the area of Deer Park.  Deer, Fox, Geese, Swans, Grey Heron, Egret, Coyotes, Beavers (yes, we are trying to find someone to relocate them now), Raccoons, possums, Painted and Snapping (some very large) Turtles, Squirrels, and so many more.  Who needs to go to the zoo?

Deer Park is my Home Town and is a warm, friendly, charming small suburban village.  There is plenty of open space with many ponds and lakes.  We have Cuba & Ela Marsh forest preserves and also adjacent to Palatine we have Deer Grove Forest Preserves.  My family and puppies enjoy the bike & hiking trails which are well kept and very scenic.  The trails run through the preserves and town. Last year Deer Park had our 50th Anniversary at our very unique Vehe Farm/community center.  Which is a 1800s restored and preserved farm and property including a barn, butterfly garden and more. Deer Park is 37 miles northwest of Chicago.  Sets in Lake and Cook counties, Cuba & Ela townships. The purpose of the original village w...

I'm pork chop challenged. I looked up a recipe online today for pork chops and scalloped potatoes and decided to give it a whirl. Wouldn't you think that a pork chop that has been cooked in potatoes and sauce would turn out tender and yummy? Not so in my household! The potatoes were delicious, but the pork chops tough and chewy. Yuk. I've tried several pork chop recipes. I've tried bone-in, boneless, tenderloin. I've barbequed, shake-and-baked, roasted, baked, stir-fried...you name it and I've tried it. I know when I'm beat. The pork chop has won. Sooooo, next time I want pork...I'm heading over to Stoney River. There, I can get a delicious pork tenderloin served with garlic mashed potatoes and sauteed spinach. Mmm. It's perfect every time. Stoney River is located at 20504 N. Rand Road,...
