Property values in Downers Grove, IL are still increasing.  Yes, you read that right...increasing.  The data covers the last 3 years and shows that although the number of homes sold is down, the values have increased.  The chart below shows the decline in detached single family homes sales from 2005-2007.The data above confirms what the national media has been saying about the real estate market.  It IS true, Downers Grove has shown declines in the number of homes sold just like the rest of the country.  As a percentage, home sales are down about 37% during this period.  Where the news reports make their mistake is with the broad generalizations regarding the home prices.  Below you will see what has happened to home values locally over this same period of time.The average value of a ho...

Now the Village Council is in the early stages of discussing a new bus service, and in the meantime, the shuttle is expected to receive some much-needed maintenance. Replacement buses have been ordered for the Grove Commuter Shuttle. Meanwhile, the village is exploring the idea of a new circulator bus system. When I became a Realtor some six and a half years a go the housing market in Downers Grove, like most places, was fast past and exciting. A home would go on the market at 9:00am and by lunch time (if the home was priced right) would have ten showings and be under contract by dinner. Well thanks to the people who received mortgages who weren't able to finance a Schwinn, and the over sensationalism of our media ( always remember, bad news sells newspapers) we are in a market that is going to need a lot more patience from you and I to sell a home.This morning I pulled up the inventory in Downers Grove for single family homes and was amazed at all of the great homes that were available. There were 524 homes for sale with 39 homes being under contract. That seems terrible but the silver lini...
