Who knew that grocery shopping could be so entertaining on a Sunday morning in Northfield? I did a quick run to the Mariano’s on Willow Road in Northfield to fetch a few things. About halfway through shopping, a hearty music started playing - it was a German band in costume singing Octoberfest tunes. I’ve always felt that grocery shopping is a chore - particularly because it leads to cooking! But the music cheered us customers and made trudging down the aisles and little easier. Octoberfest is a German festival that’s been held every October in Munich since 1810 when King Ludwig married Princess Therese. Home Prices in Northfield IL for August 2018 Northfield has seen eight months (from January 1, 2018) of fairly steady sales except for February and July (the beginning and end of the spring market.) Monthly home sale prices have varied from a low of $371,000 (in April) up to a high of $897,500  (in April.) Median days-on-market have also varied from a low of 11 days (May) to a high of 191 days (January.)  There have been a total of 66 homes sold in Northfield through the end of August. The median sale price has dropped by 1.5% since the same time period last year.If you are considering buying a home, having a good real estate agent who understands the market is a must. Northfield IL has had two successive years of nearly identical statistics for the first six months of 2017 vs 2018. NORTHFIELD REAL ESTATE REPORT FOR FIRST HALF-YEAR 2017, 2018, and 2007  But Northfield is a long ways off from its pre-recession high average price of $1,125,000.  There were considerably fewer homes sold in 2007 (fewer homes were for sale) and it took much longer to sell them. As in all the other North Shore communities, prices were selling at astronomical numbers but seller's consistently overpricing caused long sell times. The list price to sell price ratio was a decent 94% in 2017 but only 87% in 2007 which indicates overpricing of homes with several price reductions to get a sale.
