Northfield Illinois is a nice small community just to the west of Winnetka IL. Its location to I94, the Eden's Expressway gives Northfield easy access to the city of Chicago or all points north. A very nice village to live in that it is mostly families and in the New Trier school district.  Presently there 28 single family homes available on the Real Estate market, 12 under contract and waiting to close and in the last 12 months 75 houses have sold. At this time there are 75 Condos for sale, and only 5 under contract. In the last 12 months 43 condos have closed in Northfield IL. Dr. Brian Ross and his wife Dr. Kimberly Ross, opened their dental practice  (they bought the practice of Dr. Amy Wong) in Northfield. They are young, energetic and very hands on when dealing with their patients. Drs. Brian and Kimberly met at dental school at the University of Illinois at Chicago.  He graduated in 2008, she in 2009, and they acquired the practice in March of 2013.  Dr. Amy Wong is gradually moving toward retirement and they feel that the transition has gone very smoothly and the continuity of having the same business manager helped make it even more seamless.   They updated the office including decorating, but more importantly, they upgraded the old analog x-rays and installed computers with digital images. Good news for nervous grocery shoppers who have been wondering what will happen to the Northfield Dominick's. According to Chicago Breaking News, Roundy's is buying 11 Dominick's stores.  And Roundy's owns Mariano's. The transfer will occur in mid-December and Mariano's expects to open a month or two later.  Current employees will need to reapply for their jobs at the new store, and Roundy's will also be holding job fairs and accepting applications. The Safeway owned Dominick's were told of their fate in October.  But employees were not the only ones in limbo. The Northfield location served a wide swath - Northfield, Winnetka and Wilmette.  Plus they also had a Starbucks in-store (don't know if Mariano's will hold on to that.) Hibbard Road Gardens New Homes Under Construction  The old nursery Hibbard Road Gardens in Northfield has begun construction of six new homes to be built by Edward R. James Partners of Glenview.  In July of 2012 I wrote Hibbard Road Gardens in Northfield - New Homes to be Built by James. Since then, they decided to build six Cape Cod style homes with first floor master bedrooms.  There were three styles of homes priced in the $1,500,000 range.  Notice I said "were."  All six Hibbard Road Gardens homes sold out very quickly - a sure fire draw for many people downsizing and wishing to have a master bedroom on the main level. Northfield Home Sales and Market report for Year to Date 2013   As a homeseller in Northfield, it's not been a bad year.  Total sales were up slightly, but home prices jumped remarkably - by almost 18%!.   There was pent up buyer demand from several years of a drought real estate market and that will continue for a while. Condo sales were also up slightly, both in total numbers and price. Sales were quick with many homes having at least two offers, some with many more. The Headache Known as Willow Road Reconstruction I've cursed almost every time I've driven along Willow Road through Northfield - the dreaded stretch between Happ Road and Sunset Ridge Road.  Unless you're driving at 2 am, you will have bumper-to-bumper traffic to contend with.  Now I can start cursing because this tight spot will finally be widened - meaning a year and a half of . . . more traffic. Truthfully - I am thrilled that it has finally been resolved.  Northfield is lovely village with large lots and a country-like feel that has a major artery cutting it in half.  The problem has always been that the "major artery" was only one lane in each direction.  With the growth of The Glen and a large shopping complex at Waukegan and Willow, the traffic was increased many fold.  Northfi... 03/28/2013

Northfield has its very own store right in town.Kim Smith, the owner, lives in Libertyville with her husband and two daughters. She was lucky enough to spy a small ad in the local paper that was advertising a business for sale.
