Sure signs of Spring are popping up. We will have more cold but the sun is shining brighter and longer.  I'm giving a special shout out to my real estate buds across the land. New England friends have endured a fairly strong winter. Other East Coasters have perhaps seen a winter like no other, a special tip of the hat to Ed in D.C. getting 4 or 5 FOOT of snow is certainly a feat. JA must be clairvoyant...she moved from Denver to Pensacola (how did she know to do that?) On the other end of the spectrum (and continent) Maggie in Vancouver certainly must think Al Gore is right on the money.  As her city prepared to host the world they did everything right except Mother Nature really pulled a fast one. The sign of spring I speak of tonight is not the usual sprouts of tulips or hosta.  It is...

It is not totally official, yet.  It looks like my broker will be coming up with the policy asking us to stay away during the whole house inspection.  The wording will be something along the lines of "Go to the home, make sure everyone is there, make any necessary introductions, leave. This is one time that I am ahead of the game.  I really do not think it is my place to attend home inspections.  Do you think otherwise?  If you do let me turn it around. Say you are at a listing appointment but the home inspector is there too. You are going over your skillfully prepared CMA...halfway through the inspector yells out "hey I've found two breakers in the panel that are double tapped!  Two minutes later the inspector says " looks like the electric sub-panel is wired incorrectly" As you go ove...

With 2 games scheduled at 11:00 AM I go one way my wife goes the other.  Just as we back down the driveway at 10:00...on come my wipers.  Girls softball already canceled. Weatherman says last night "a few passing storms, 30% chance of rain, most of the rain will be North of the Metro."  yeah right By 10:15 we are seeking shelter in the dugout.  Moderate rainfall...the sky looks like it will be going on for a while.  The game is called off...we start calling parents hoping to head them off before they depart. "Can you come at 1:00 on Sunday?  We need to reschedule." Looks like we can get 10 of 13.  Pretty cool...we played one game this year with 8.  Then an injury and we are at 7 for one inning. As we head for the van I recall Charlie Brown saying "Where is everyone going?  Are you gonna...

Recently my wife Laurie, a 3rd Grade teacher at Jane Addams Elementary, received a special recognition.  The Moline School District's Business and Education Partnership, the City of Moline and Deere & Co. announced the latest winners of the John Deere Partnership award. School District staff members who excel at there craft are nominated by their peers and students.  I am extremely proud of Laurie.  This award is well deserved and I know that Laurie was happy to receive this honor.  The term "Above and Beyond" in my humble opinion certainly applies to a special teacher who spends countless hours at night and on the weekends doing whatever it takes to make her classroom a better place to learn.

Here in Moline Illinois and the Quad Cities in general real estate seems to be picking up.  Now I'm not here to declare the end of the housing slump but I will say that I've personally witnessed some good things. Let's start with interest rates and the lending industry.  This morning I talked to my long time friend Mary Bosso-Trondson.  Mary works for Quad City Bank & Trust.  She reported as of today interest rates below 5%.  Yes you need a good credit score and if you are going the FHA route you are looking at 3.5% down and don't forget those pre-paids too. Now back to some of my anecdotal stories.  I work with a 5 person team and we have sold some homes in as little as 2 to 3 weeks on the market.  I've seen other agents in my office sell in less time.  Yes I'm talking this year...you ...

Today was walk to school day for Jane Addams Elementary this is in the spirit of Earth Day.  While I'm not exactly an environmentalist, heck just ask my wife I leave too many lights on on any given day, it is fun to see lots of kids walking to school. The Homewood area has lots of kids who walk to school on a fairly regular basis.  I think that is one of the attractions of smaller neighborhood schools. If you or anyone you know is interested in learning more about my hometown of Moline IL. just give me a call.  I'm a husband and Dad first but also a Realtor with Mel Foster Co.  We are the clear market leader in real estate here in the metro area. Here is the market share statistics for the 1st quarter 2009.

From the Moline Little League web site: In 2009 Moline Little league will be restructuring our age groups with the addition of the AA Major League Division. This division is structured to accommodate experienced Minor League players who are interested in the competitive nature of the Major League but would like additional guaranteed playing time. Major League rules will be applied to this level of play which should be considered as preparation for more advanced play. This division will be assembled by a draft procedure similar to Major League and everyone 10 years of age or older must tryout.  Those players already drafted on to Major League teams prior to 2009 will not be affected by the restructuring plan and will return to the same teams they were on in 2008.  My nine year old son wi...

Yes, Little League practice was supposed to start last Monday, March 30th.  BUT NOOOO old man winter was not finished.  He dumped 5 to 6 inches of heavy wet snow on the diamonds. Here it is a week later and yep more snow last night.  Well the kids in the Moline School District have Spring vacation, I remember when we called it Easter break but I digress.   Where is that wacky Al Gore and his global warming scientists when you really need them?   I know it will warm up soon...probably too soon.  Next thing you know it will be sunny and the bats will be going "PING" the bats used to "CRACK" but that was back in the aforementioned Easter break era.   It was nice to watch major league ball last night with my 9 year old on good old ESPN2 HD.   Yikes, just checked the weather forecast...toni...
