FALLing for Tippecanoe   Tippecanoe Battlefield Burnett's Creek The Tippecanoe Battlefield Park is seven miles north of Lafayette, Indiana in the town of Battle Ground.  You are looking at the west bank of Burnett's Creek where Native American forces crossed the creek to attack the U.S. Army and militia forces led by General William Henry Harrison on November 7, 1811. Every year mother nature remembers the battle by casting a CRIMSON reflection upon Burnett's Creek where many warriors were killed or wounded crossing the creek to attack Harrison's forces on the high ground to the east. The Battle of Tippecanoe thwarted Tecumseh's dream of an Indian Confederacy, and the fame gained by General William Henry Harrison's victory at The Battle of Tippecanoe would help Harrison gain The W...

FALLING FOR TIPPECANOE   Burnett's Creek at the Tippecanoe Battlefield Park   Burnett's Creek is a wading creek that forms the western boundary of the Battle of Tippecanoe, which was fought in November 1811 between Native American forces led by Tecumseh's half-brother, The Prophet, and U.S. government and militia forces led by General William Henry Harrison. This is the view that Harrison's forces would have had right before dusk when Native American forces attacked just before dawn the next morning on November 7th 1811.   The water still casts a blood reddish hue every fall during the anniversary of the Battle of Tippecanoe!       FALLing FOR TIPPECANOE    Tippecanoe Battlefield Park   IRONWOOD TREE   The Tippecanoe Battlefield Park has an ornate iron fence that surrounds the park.  Down on the flood plain by Burnett's Creek a huge oak tree has grown into and has absorbed the iron fence.  In Hawaii they have ironwood trees and this is the closest we can come to an IRONWOOD tree in Tippecanoe County, Indiana!

Lafayette, IN Historic Real Estate:  Tippecanoe Battlefield Monument Battle Ground, Indiana   The ground for the Tippecanoe Battlefield Park was purchased and donated to the state of Indiana by John Tipton in 1836 to preserve the site of the Battle of Tippecanoe that was fought in 1811. The Battle of Tippecanoe is regarded by many historians as the opening battle of the War of 1812 between the U.S. and Great Britain.  Native American forces, led by The Prophet, attacked the U.S. Army and militia troops under the command of General William Henry Harrison on a plateau near the Tippecanoe River before dawn on November 7, 1811.  Harrison's troops prevailed and settlers in the Old Northwest Territory held Britain responsible for supplying arms out of Canada to the Native American forces....

Battle of Tippecanoe Monument:  Battle Ground, Indiana     Historic Battle Ground is about 7 miles north of Lafayette, Indiana and is the site of what many historians regard as the opening battle in the WAR OF 1812. Native American forces, led by THE PROPHET, were defeated after attacking General William Henry Harrison's forces that were encamped on a bluff above Burnett's Creek.  Settlers in the Northwest Territory had all the evidence they needed that Tecumseh's Confederacy was being armed by the British out of Canada and called for war against Great Britain to finally solve the problem. The white granite monument dedicated to General Harrison and the men who fought and died in the Battle of Tippecanoe is over 100 years old.

Nature's shelving at the Tippecanoe Battlefield Bi-Centennial   There were lots of great shots of trees in all their splendor at the Battle of Tippecanoe Bi-Centennial over the weekend.  This tree on the east bank of Burnett's Creek caught my eye amid the beautiful red foliage. Oh course if you are a child and it is December you are thinking, "ELF ON A SHELF"!

Prophet's Rock     This is the site where THE PROPHET(half brother to Tecumseh) directed the Native American forces in their attack upon the encamped militia and army forces led by William Henry Harrison in the Battle of Tippecanoe. Prophet's Rock is an easy 10 minute hike from the Tippecanoe Battlefield and Museum in Battle Ground, Indiana(just 10 minutes north of Lafayette by car).  Be careful if you actually climb up to the rock and cave formation as it is very steep and can be quite slippery if the ground is damp. This is the bicentennial year of The Battle of Tippecanoe; it was fought on November 7, 1811.
