One of the many factors determining the price of housing is demand.  As population surges and housing lags behind the demand will drive prices upwards.  If population remains stagnant or grows at a rate less than the housing production grows then you have stable or falling prices as builders will begin to discount to move their inventory.  It is my position that we are closer to the later situation here in Olathe, Kansas.Sure, there are other mitigating factors.  But population growth is a big one.  Read this from yesterday's Kansas City Star; The growth boom in Olathe is not expected to slow anytime soon, city planners have predicted. So much so, that according to their estimates, they expected Olathe's current population of roughly 120,000 to grow to 325,000 by the year 2050.Wishful th...

I grew up in Overland Park, Kansas and attended Shawnee Mission schools.  A graduate of SM West...go Vikings!  After doing my time at the University of Kansas I lived in a couple of different cities (Washington, DC for 15 years and Tulsa, OK for 3).  When it was time to come home I had to be choosy about my choice for a home city.  When I left, Olathewas still out in the "country".  I think I remember saying I'd never live so far out!  But when we decided to return to Greater Kansas City we now had four children.  My oldest, genius material, needed good schools with access to advanced placement.  Two of the other three have special needs, especially one daughter who has been going through life with a milder case of cerebal palsy.  So you see, I needed a school district with widely varyi...
