Last weekend at the final 4 event at The Kansas Humane Society lots of animals found new forever homes! It was bittersweet for us volunteers saying goodbye to some old friends but that's what it's all about. Spring is the busiest time of year so it's wonderful to see so many get out. People took numbers and  waited for hours. Many picked their animals ahead of time on the internet and sat patiently by the suites praying no one before them took their dog. The Stats: 108 dogs including several older dogs who always have a hard time in the shelter. 38 cats which actually made a cat shortage at the shelter....but I imagine not for long. 3 hamsters, some were calling them mice. I never did get it figured out but whatever, they found new homes. 1 gerbil. All in all it was a resounding succes... 04/12/2013

  Sports Illustrated says this ain't no Cinderella team, their bet ter than that! The town is going wild. Wichita State Universities Shockers basketball team is in Atlanta for the NCAA Final Four championship. I'm not much of a sports enthusiast but this I gotta love, and here's why:   To celebrate the Shockers so far triumph this year the Kansas Humane Society is having a Final Four Adoption Event. Any adult animal over 6 years of age can be adopted for just $4. That’s right, just $4. All of these dogs and cats are already spayed and/or neutered too!   Regularly it cost $150 to cover the costs of shots, food, utilities, spaying and neutering ect..... The Spring is always a busy time at shelters across the nation and running these specials saves a lot of lives. True it costs the shelter... 04/04/2013

Downtown Development in Wichita Kansas. Downtown development in Wichita has taken another giant step forward with the “Block 1” project. There was a ribbon cutting ceremony yesterday with 3 buildings complete, including the new Ambassador hotel and it’s parking garage, and two building to go.  When all is said and done there will be many new places to shop, eat and stay when in Wichita. The Ambassador hotel is an impressive thing. The reasonably priced restaurant is a 5 star affair and a wonderful place to dine. The rooms are fit for a King and the service is impeccable. We now have three high end hotels in Downtown Wichita. Some Animals are better off at the Kansas Humane Society. Often I get a little sad and sometimes angry when I see the reasons people drop off their pets. Not enough time, got to big, can't afford ect., ect., ect. But sometimes it makes me glad. It never cease's to amaze me how some humans can so badly treat animal's. Beating, starving and worse.    While driving down my street this wintry morning I took notice of all the different personalities of my Wichita neighbors. I could tell by the way they shoveled their driveways. That's right, by how they shoveled their driveways. Starting with Nick across the street who is retired and very active....unless it snowed the night before. His driveway wasn't shoveled at all. Laid back do what I want when I want Nick. Of those that got out and did shovel the drive there was everything from the most detailed to the do as little as I can. Some drives, like mine, are completely snow free from front to back and side to side right up to the edge where the lawn starts. We finally got snow in Wichita Kansas the last couple days. The moisture is much needed and appreciated but that should about do it. It hasn't snowed all year, Kansans have been running around in  shorts all winter and there has been very little rain. And now this, 15 inches so far and it's still snowing. My drive has been shoveled 3 times today, everytime I have to leave (which i shouldn't be doing at all). This is the second worst storm in recored history and quickly moving into contention for the first! 02/21/2013

The Wichita Area Association of Realtor's had their awards ceremony last week.  There were 170 2012 members of the presidents club. To make presidents club an agent must have either 32 transactions or 2.5 million in sales. The 2012 master club boasts 123 members. HUD homes and foreclosures in Wichita Kansas. HUD homes and foreclosures, also called REO's or real estate owned, are big business in Wichita Kansas. Before 2007 foreclosure deals were few and far between and who even knew what a HUD home was? Every once in awhile you would hear about someone who found a good deal due to someone else’s misfortune. Now foreclosures and HUD homes are part of everyday language. You can't get away from them these days. Seems every street in Wichita Kansas has or had at least one foreclosure or HUD home on it. Illuminations was once again a smashing success this year. The Wichita Botanica gardens put on aspectacular show with a lot of the same decorating projects from last year and some new ones too.The big hit this year, besides Santa for the kids, was a massive synchronized to music light show in thewedding field. Lights were strung out across the ground, up in trees and on posts. The ground lightsmade waves while the others in the trees danced to the timing of the music. It was really something tosee. Last year Lisel and I had seen the same thing at a private residence that we discovered while outlooking at Christmas lights. This one at Botanica was on a much larger scale. There were trains, lights, trees and Santa Claus. The butterfly garden was filled with lightedbutterflies throughout. ... 12/21/2012
