If you haven’t visited A Thomas Cousin’s Salon at The Market at Chenier in Mandeville then you are in for a real treat.  My experience started when I received a complimentary shampoo, scalp and neck massage card from Hair Designer Derek.  Derek’s knowledge of hair color and bubbling personality encouraged me to make an appointment the next day.   When I arrived I was given a tour of the salon. Derek then took me to the Color Bistro, where he gave me a consultation on the desired color of my hair. I entered a secluded room, where I received a relaxing shampoo, scalp and neck massage.  Besides the great service and great results this was the favorite part of my visit and ultimately the main reason why I will be going back.  We headed to the Rejuvenation Station where all the magic happene...

One of my favorite movies is "Forgetting Sarah Marshall," and the best line is when Paul Rudd sings "Oh the weather outside is... weather."  At a time when it's supposed to be "Oh the weather outside is frightful, and the fire is so delightful... as if we have no place to go, let it snow, let it snow, let it snow."  Yeah right. Insert the state of Louisiana and bam; you're sweating to death. It's 67 degrees today in this great state. And inside, the heater is running because it's December 18 and supposed to be cold. My poor clients keep walking in and sheding clothes as soon as they walk in, because it's so warm, inside and outside. Nobody around here wants a fire anywhere near them. There is no snow in site for this place. And I would so much rather be cold than be hot. Is anyone else...

Yesterday, I logged on to Facebook and saw a post by a former employee that literally made my heart smile. Now, I know that sounds sissy, but I think you'll agree with how sweet it was. I asked her to write a blog about it for me.  ** Two months ago, a family from my hometown discovered that their 3 year old had Leukemia. They immediately took off to Memphis to spend some time at St. Jude. The little girl was given a number and the family was given a room. She began undergoing treatment to try and fight off this nasty disease. Now, since I'm from a small town, of course a Facebook page was created to help support her and her family. Each day, the mother would post something about this little trooper... how things were going, how she was responding to treatment, etc. My hometown even cr...

Last week at a conference, the key note speaker and his wife told our group about a book called the Energy Bus, by Jon Gordon. I, of course, didn't think anything of it, but loved his presentation. A member of my team, being the woman she is, ran right out to buy the book to see what it was all about. She loved it so much, she's basically making me read it.  And let me tell you, I'm only on page 25, but I'm already loving it. So often, in such a negative world, it's easy to get frustrated and negative about anything and everything. Life has a way of beating us down and making us view things alittle differently. This book is all about having a set of rules that help give you, your life, your team and everything else positive energy. It explains one mans journey on a bus, and how he fi...

Is it me, or does Target opening at crack of dawn on Thanksgiving day bother anyone else? I mean, I'm all for watching women fight over the toaster oven that is $156.00 off and laughing, but seriously? I promise, if my mom leaves Thanksgiving dinner to go sit out in line at Target, we will probably have to have a Intervention.  It's just too much. These corportations are ruining watching football, eating wayyyyyy too much turkey and setting up the family Christmas tree. And plus, the poor workers who have to miss time with their family on this holiday so they can be around to assist the crazy ladies and guys trying to prove a point and get in and get out.   Below is an article my team and I found online about the stores openig up early. I just wanted to share that article with you guy...

I've seen a few agents lately who are starting to look like they belong on Duck Dynasty. I asked why all of a sudden, they're growing their beards out (figuring it was just becoming a cultural phenom) and they told me about No Shave November. Now, I've heard about it before, but decided to do alittle research.    ** The goal of No-Shave November is to grow awareness by embracing our hair, which many cancer patients lose, and letting it grow wild and free.  Donate the money you usually spend on shaving and grooming for a month to educate about cancer prevention, save lives, and aid those fighting the battle. ** (according to http://www.no-shavenovember.com/)    Not going to lie, this is an amazing concept, and even though I'm 12 days behind, I'd like to participate. However, my question...

Today, my friends, is one of those days. The kind of day that you can't wait for closing time so you can go drink a lot of... water. Sure, we'll go with water.  It's the kind of day that starts out like this: you're running 20 minutes late because your phone died in the middle of the night and your alarm didn't go off. Then, you wash your hair with conditioner. Twice. Then you finally get in the car to head to the office, and you forgot your phone (that's still dead). And we all know, your phone is your lifeline in this business. You turn around, grab the phone, tell the "kids" (dogs) goodbye again. Get to the office and sit down.  What seemed like 3 hours of my day, was actually just 45 minutes. Sometimes I'm thankful I'm a man and get ready that quickly. And now that's it 3:30 in the ...

I'm currently trying to sell a home where the owners are two days away from being divorced. And let's just say, they do NOT see eye to eye. It's like they're purposefully trying to get on each others nerves and fight. And to make matters worse, they keep arguing and fighting in front of me and their two children. Everything is just so awkward.  I've tried my best to stay calm, cool and collective, because that's just how I am. However, these two clients are making this process so much harder than it needs to be. I get it, a divorce brings out the ugly in people. But arguing over how much the asking price should be, arguing over whether to include the curtains and fridge and fighting over whether or not to paint the front door to spruce it up is crazy to me.  Divorce isn't fun, especial...

Today, I was in Monroe, La. participating in a class for Keller Williams. And let me tell you, I do not miss the class setting. Sitting in my desk, taking notes on how to be a better realtor and team leader, I thought back to when I was in college. Sitting in a class I had no interest in (because it didn't pertain to football). But today, I was actually sitting in a classroom, taking notes because I couldn't be more interested in real estate and how to better my business than I am now. Class, I don't miss you. Learning, I sure have missed you.  It's amazing, once you think you know every trick and trade in the book, you learn something new. Today we learned how to train, movtivate and lead. It was eye opening and a great experience. I usually hate hearing that I have to take a day away...

Today, I'm watching the New Orleans Saints game. Sidenote: I still am completely in allegiance to the Carolina Panthers. But, I'm in Louisiana, and it's all Saints, all the time.  While trying to get some things together for work tomorrow, I start really paying attention to Drew Brees and his leadership on the field. And it got me to thinking: if he can be such a good leader (and I'm only using Drew as an example for a quarterback... Please don't attack me if you're another teams fan. hah.) in those few seconds between plays and get everyone on the same page and towards the same goal, then why can't I be that kind of leader for my team?  Now, don't get me wrong, my team and I are very open and honest with one another, and we usually are on the same page with things. However, I want to b...

I have some clients (I feel like I always start my stories that way) who have to be out of their home in a week. But, they haven't even started to pack.... ANYTHING.  I keep dropping hints that they need to begin packing. I mean, they've lived in their home for 10 years. I lived in mine for 1 year and it still took me a few weeks and one frantic night of just throwing things in duffel bags to get it all out. And here they are, one week from needing to be out of their home, and they don't have one box packed.  They don't seem to be phased at all, but I'm on the nervous side.  What can I do to give them alittle nudge to get the ball rolling? Besides yelling and carrying on, of course?    Happy Friday Friends. Be safe this weekend!

The Keep Mandeville Beautiful high school anti-litter awareness program was selected to receive the Most Innovative Program award in the state of Louisiana.   The award was presented recently at a luncheon in the Old Governor's Mansion in Baton Rouge at the Keep Louisiana Beautiful (KLB) state conference.   Accepting the award were Susan Russell, KMB Director, and Meg Denny, a senior student at Fontainebleau High who served on the steering committee.   The award is presented by KLB each year to an affiliate, nonprofit organization, civic group or governmental entity that has introduced a successful environmental initiative that is particularly creative or innovative.  Last year, armed with a $10,000 grant, KMB developed a program to reduce litter by targeting high school students and ...

Whether you simply want to reduce the clutter in your email inbox or you’re concerned about the security of your information and hardware, here are some practical tips to reduce the spam you receive: 1. Sign up for Gmail. Gmail actively works on your behalf to reduce the unwanted email that appears in your inbox by identifying prolific producers of spam and sending messages from those producers directly to your spam folder. Google recently added a “Promotions” folder to Gmail that filters messages that are clearly advertisements—but may actually be offers you want to see. 2. Unsubscribe buttons work. Well, they work for reputable companies, anyway. Here's a helpful tip: When you follow the unsubscribe link, make sure you unsubscribe from all the emails you wish to block. It’s not uncom...

I'm one of those weird agents that believes a quality picture can help sell a home.  One pet peeve of mine is logging on to a website to check out a house for a client, and the pictures look like the other agent took them with his/her cell phone and uploaded it. I believe hiring a professional to take the photos speaks volumes for my clients, and helps potential buyers want to actually come to look at the home. Sidenote: It's an expensive service, so I want to make sure the home looks better than best, so we can get our money's worth.  So, yesterday, I went to a photo shoot for some of my favorite clients. I walked in, and was immediately hit in the face with Halloween Decorations galore. I mean, their home (inside and out!) was covered with crime scene tape, cobwebs, spiders, witches ...

Today, I had a dear friend lose her job because she works for a public university and budget cuts are hitting our state hard. She called me crying, because she was finally in a good position and was about to try to buy a new home, to tell me that she'd been laid off. She felt bad letting me know that she no longer needed my services because she was out of a job, which meant she was out of money.  This taught me a lesson today. We are not always promised that we will have a job and steady income tomorrow. Not, that as a real estate agent, any sort of income is steady, but you get my point. She worked so hard to provide for her family, and was doing a job she loved and was good at. This reminds me of myself. I love being a realtor, and helping people find their dream home. It's just so sa...
