How do you get to Fall River?   The new Veterans Memorial Bridge, which replaced the old Brightman Street Bridge, is open and I think it is great, but how do you get to Fall River? It takes only minutes to get from President Avenue to the Home Depot in Somerset. Coming back from Somerset is a breeze also. Less stop and go, and just smooth sailing. BUT……, I can’t figure out the signage. When traveling from Fall River to Somerset there are four or five signs directing you to Somerset and letting you know what town you are in on the first few exits.                                               But when traveling back to the River, the signs take you to Middleboro, Tiverton and New Bedford. Not once do the signs let you know you are in Fall River.   I guess it is up to the State to decide ...

There are many foreclosure homes for sale in Fall River Ma Buying a foreclosure, short sale or bank owned property is different then buying a home from a seller that is living in the property. I have sold many foreclosures in Fall River Ma so I can guide you through the process. It is wise to use a buyers agent in a foreclosure sale because there is more risk involved. As your agent, I can alert you to these risks, protect & advise you so your best interests are served. Best to drive by the property - the picture you see may not be what the home currently looks like. When you are satisfied with the exterior & neighborhood I can then get us in to see the interior. Most of the foreclosures do not have electricity so you will want to be prepared with a flashlight. If you want to make an of...

Hurricane Irene is heading for the Greater Fall River area! Earlier this week I blogged about being prepared in the event of a hurricane. Well, today I found myself following my own advice. Hurricane Irene is bearing down on the east coast and forecasters are telling New Englanders to prepare for the worst and hope for the best. This morning I put away all my back yard and porch furniture, brought in the hanging plants, picked the ripened tomatoes, and took down the bird feeders. I also found my flashlights, check the batteries, located my old  battery operated transistor radio (it’s over 35 years old and still works great). All the time I was doing this I was hoping it will have been a waste of time and I will be putting everything back Monday to enjoy the rest of the summer!        ...

Hurricane season is here. Are you prepared for an emergency? The great hurricane of 1938 hit the south coast of New England without warning, claiming roughly 200 lives here in Massachusetts and Rhode Island and causing millions of dollars in damages. (Great info and video links are available at the Sea Fever blog 70th anniversary site: http://sea-fever.org/2008/09/21/70th-anniversary-of-the-1938-hurricane .     Sixteen years later Hurricane Carol ripped through southern New England and her 14 foot storm surge in Narragansett Bay left downtown Providence under 12 feet of water. The coastal areas of Fall River, Westport, Somerset, Swansea, Dartmouth, and Tiverton and Portsmouth Rhode Island were devastated. "Panic" is how a few reports summed up the markets yesterday. Despite the S&P downgrade on US debt, Treasuries remained the go to safe haven with 10-year notes surging almost 2 points and dropping the yield to 2.34%, its lowest level since January 2009. The Dow, on the other hand, plummeted over 600 points or 5.5%. Investors are becoming increasingly bearish about global growth and the prospects of another recession and the continuing uncertainty in the EU. MBS prices closed higher by roughly .75 and .5 on 30-year 3.5% and 4.0% coupons, although how much of this is passed through on rate sheets remains to be seen.   This is good for mortgage rates as they continue to slide to the lowest levels yet!   Lou Matos

Summer has hit the Greater Fall River area with heat and humidity, but don't worry there are plenty of places to cool off. Residents of Fall River and surrounding communities all have unequalled access to swimming, fishing, boating and long walks on the ocean. A short drive southeast of Fall River the most popular and by far the largest beach in the area is Horseneck State Beach. From Interstate Route 195 take an 11 mile drive down Route 88 and cross the bridge over the Westport River and enter a piece of heaven. According to the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation this nearly 2 mile long, almost 600 acre reservation is one of the most popular facilities in the Massachusetts State Forests and Parks system. The sandy beaches bordered by windswept dunes are just what y...
