These are a couple of photographs I took on a recent trip to Gloucester MA.  The first photo was at high tide and people were having fun with the waves.  It was not a sunny day, but was good enough to listen to the waves and take a dip. The second photo was taken on another day at low tide.  Where did the water go? Now it was even possible to walk out to the island and some people did.  I started to walk out too, but with stitches in one foot it was not the best idea.  Then I thought of the parting of the Red Sea, and that was even more reason for me to head back to shore.

Today I read Gary Woltal's  post "Pull up a chair and grab a cup of slow" and I could say, yes,  I did grab a cup of slow.  I took a ride up the New England coast to Cape Ann and stopped in Gloucester MA where I went down to the water and just listened to the waves.  Waves sure have a calming effect and you can almost feel the stress melting away. So, I brought the waves to you and I hope you will enjoy it as much as I do.

I spent the last few days in lovely Gloucester MA . This was my first opportunity this year to get to the ocean.  I even had a fleeting thought of getting on one of those whale watching boats but when I was told it would be a four hour trip I changed my mind. There were so many wonderful moments but one that really brought the bigest smile to my face was the Kayaking dog.  He seems so at home in the kayak and I was pleased to see he even wore his life jacket. So I stood and watched this Kayaking dog until he and his human companion paddled away. The weather was perfect, lots of sun and comfortable temperatures so wherever he went I am sure it was a good trip.   Copyright © by Jennifer Fivelsdal, all rights reserved-Speechless Sunday-Kayaking Dog

(Centsable Inspection)
A Gloucester MA home buyer should receive a brochure, Home Inspectors Facts for Consumers Sheet, at the time of the signing of the first written contract to purchase. A standard home inspection in Massachusetts is a visual examination of the physical structure and major interior systems of a residential building consisting of one to four dwelling units. It should be understood that there are certain risks inherent in the purchase of property and a home inspection is inherently limited in its scope and depth. The information gained from home inspection conforming to the Massachusetts Home Inspector Standards of Practice may reduce some of those risks, but the home inspection is not intended to provide the client with protection from all of the risks involved. Gloucester, MA:  A Cool Harbor Sail In the midst of the heat wave, my husband and I were fortunate enough to escape to Gloucester, MA, and enjoy a wonderful sailboat tour of the harbor.  Tall sails and cool breezes gave us a welcome break from the heat.                       The Schooner Thomas E. Lannon at Port                     Sails Up!             This sail was on the schooner Thomas E. Lannon.  Family-owned, this vessel holds about 45 people.  The captain and his crew offer music cruises, charters, lobster bakes on deck, and also will hold wedding parties on the boat.  Happy Sailing!

"For 83 years, the Gloucester Fisherman's Memorial has towered over the city's main boulevard. Fishermen and their families consider it a holy place, and the bronze statue - which depicts a fisherman holding a boat's wheel out at sea - is a magnet for tourists and locals. Even Supreme Court Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes shed tears when he saw the memorial, and its inscription inspired by the 107th Psalm, "They that go down to the sea in ships": here is the rest from the  latest Boston Globe Article

After many months of traffic, I was curious to see what was going on beneath the surface of the A. Piatt Andrew Bridge project. A drive to the end of Wolf Hill Rd revealed this industrial view, evocative of the time America Built! I doubt that this wa a result of the 'stimulus package' - It was in the pipeline for a long time

As a cautionary note to current and future waterfront property owners here on Cape Ann; the latest scientific studies on climate change are predicting that the ocean will rise more dramatically and quickly in the North East US than pretty much anywhere in the world! The reasons are multifold and interconnected. The accelerated melting of the Antarctic and Greenland Ice Cap will slow the great ocean conveyer  that we call the Gulf Stream (Yikes! did you see the movie "The Day After" ?). Another disconcerting aspect is this appears to be happening faster than anyone previously predicted. Here is an article from National Geographic: http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2009/03/090315-new-york-sea-level.html

As everyone in the above captive municipalities know, the A. Piatt Andrews Bridge is undergoing an extensive and lengthy maintenance that is anticipated to continue for several years. The Piatt and the Blynman Cut Bridge are the only ways into and out of the island of Cape Ann proper. The Blynman has long been a notorious traffic nightmare, particularly in the Summer when the bridge opens frequently for the heavy boat traffic. Now the A. Piatt Andrews Bridge is also a traffic pinch point. The Blynman needs frequent maintenance and repair and a complete failure of the drawbridge is not hard to imagine. Evacuating Cape Ann (imagine a radiation release scenario from Seabrook Nuclear Power Plant) would be difficult at the best of times, the current situation could prove dire. An interesting...

Full blown movie productions are getting to be a ho- hum occurence here on Beautiful Cape Ann! The interesting and varied housing  stock, the breathtaking scenery and most importantly. a highly competitive tax incentive program is bringing  millions in economic activity to the state of Massachusetts every year. This summer a major movie starring Adam Sandler will be renting the right to use Centennial Grove in Essex. The town officials are swooning with delight over the extra income it will add to the town's coffers. I think that the movie company is getting too good a deal. What do you think? Gloucester's iconic statue and tribute to fisherman, is likely to be on the next US Quarter coin from Massachusetts. It's a bittersweet tribute. Sweet because it will undoubtedly increase tourist interest in Gloucester and Cape Ann. Bitter, in that the fishing industry is under such relentless pressure from Federal Agencies concerning depleted fish stocks, that the Gloucester fisherman is an endangered species itself. The irony of more tourism is that the economic pressure to adapt Glouceter more towards tourism will grow greater and greater. This is not a bad thing.... but the change will erode the commercial basis of the waterfront. Here is an article about the new Quarter

(Dryer Vent Wizard New Hampshire and Massachusetts)
Clothes dryers with venting problems are a leading cause of house fires costing millions of dollars annually    Gloucester, MA--Clothes dryers are a wonderful invention, but they do require maintenance to assure safety in homes.  The National Fire Prevention Administration reports over 15,000 fires annually, costing millions of dollars, many injuries and loss of lives.  Consumers in Essex County have been emailing DVW to thank them for their advice and safety tips offered on their website.   Dryer Vent Wizard advises proper maintenance and installation; dryer vents should be as short as possible and contain few bends and turn which can inhibit venting and cause lint to build up and clog the vent.  Dryer Vent Wizard does not advise use of sheet metal screws when attaching multiple sectio...
