Currently there are 64 single family homes on the market in Medway.  That’s two more than the last week.  The houses have an average list price of $494,598 and an average market time of 200 days.  The 2 house increase to the market this week is due to properties re-entering the market because there were no new homes added in the last 7 days. There are 15 properties available for $300,000 or less. On the upper end of the scale, there are 8 properties listing for $800,000 or more, three of which are new construction to be built.  No single family homes went under agreement in the last week. However, there are currently 12 properties currently under agreement in Medway that are waiting for closing. Up to six of these should close before next Monday. On the upper end of the scale, there are 5 properties listing for $800,000 or more, two of which are new construction to be built.  Two single family homes went under agreement in the last week.  One of them is a ranch on Main Street and the other is a colonial on Hooksett Circle. According to what we read in the press, the real estate market was bleak in 2008.  How do the numbers hold up against the reports?  Let’s take a closer look at the market. Single Family Homes There were 111 single family homes sold in Medway in 2008.  That’s a 14-house, or 11%, decrease from 2007 when 125 houses were sold. The average list price was $406,367 with an average sale price of $391, 064.  In comparison, the average list price in 2007 was $454,413 with an average sale price of $439,372. The median sale price in 2008 was $350,000 vs. $385,000 in 2007. However, it’s important to put these numbers into perspective to see what they really mean.  One of the reasons for the overall decrease in the sale prices was a decrease in the high end market.  In 2007, 14 homes sold for over $7...

Discovering wildlife in Medway is not a matter of ‘if’ but ‘when’.  After I moved to Medway it was a matter of days before I encountered some honest to goodness wildlife.  The first to greet us were the squirrels and the wild birds.  Nothing too dramatic about that.  We even had a few of those in the city.  The rabbits appeared soon after.  All over our yard and neighborhood.  We certainly didn’t have rabbits in the city.  Seeing the rabbits took me back to my suburban childhood which contained a few rabbits but not the masses we have here in Medway. Early during our first fall we had a red fox traipsing through our yard.  That was quite exciting for us city folks.  The pheasants that followed were particularly exciting.  They lingered in our yard for several days finding what food they...

Some changes are happening in town which will make it easier and more comfortable to consider the GATRA Transit Authority Bus Route to Norfolk! First the Middle School's gravel parking lot is being opened to commuter use. You will be able to leave your car at that lot and board the bus to Norfolk train station. In addition there will be two bus shelters built to protect commuters from inclement weather. One shelter will be at the fire station at the intersection of Route 126 and Route 109. The other will be installed next to the middle school's parking lot. The hope is that people within walking distance will walk to the shuttle stops.
