By Mary MaddenRISMEDIA, August 2, 2010--(MCT)--One of the mysteries of space - we're talking real-world living space, not the cosmos - is that perfectly sound logic often leads to an illogical aesthetic. We all occasionally make cringe-worthy decorating mistakes. (I once purchased a sofa, custom-ordered from a tiny swatch, that more closely resembled neon green than the crisp, fresh celadon I had envisioned.)Three common design mistakes involving scale, balance and proportion come to mind. Fortunately, they have quick and easy fixes.Draperies flush to windows: Hanging draperies flush with the top of the window seems logical, but the effect is that it gives the appearance of shortening the window and lowering the ceiling. Just as a well-tailored pair of slacks can give your legs a longer...

RISMEDIA, July 30, 2010--The economy is stabilizing. Home prices are holding. It's not just as good a time as ever to buy a house. It's one of the best times ever, five overlooked reasons why now is a great time to buy a house.1. Low mortgage rates serve as an equity shock absorber. When buyers borrow at today's record-low rates, they start building equity as soon as they close. That means they have a little give to absorb a few ups and downs as the still-recovering housing market gains traction.2. Houses are in move-in condition. Homeowners have continued to spend on maintenance and repair, according to the Harvard Joint Center on Housing. Homeowners who have been holding back kept their houses in good shape while they waited. As those houses enter the market, they are in marked contr...

JORDAN'S FURNITURE IN NATICK - Great Furniture Meets Great Service! Yesterday was our 7 year wedding anniversary and we decided to head to Jordan's Furniture after our great big lunch at Wright's Farm.  Our Lazy-boy couch has been falling apart for awhile and we've only had it for 3 years.  It was way past time to replace it.   When we arrived at Jordan's Furniture in Natick, they had tons of race car strollers we could use for free to roam around their store with the kids.  This was great because we didn't bring a stroller for Hailey and she doesn't seem to want to stay with the pack.  All 4 of my kids jumped into the car strollers (they had double and single ones) and we started searching for a couch.   There were so many to choose from, but we knew what we were looking for.  We neede...

A Famous Citizen of Natick Massachusetts - Still Remembered   Prominently sitting on Route 135 in Natick not far from the Framingham line, is the little shoe shop that was originally owned by a distinguished citizen of Natick.  Henry Wilson was known as the "Cobbler from Natick."  He was also the 18th Vice President of the United States.  Born in 1812, he was originally named Jeremiah Jones Colbath, a name his father had given him after a financially successful neighbor with the hopes of getting an inheritance for his son. The child, Jeremiah, learned to hate that name and vowed to change it at his earliest opportunity.  That time came in 1833 when he changed his name to Henry Wilson. After an unsuccessful attempt at finding work in his native New Hampshire hometown, he walked over 100 ...
