William Murray, a cooper purchased land on “Ye High Street” (Essex Str) and erected the house by July of 1687.  By 1759 the property was defined as the Northern and Southern halves of his “mansion” and divided “as far as the middle chimney” – each half being owned by his sons, William and Jonathan, both coopers.  The property remained in the Murray family until 1795 when the Southern end was conveyed to Ebenezer Slocum, a mariner.  It was then conveyed in 1811 to Jonathan Andrew (a trader), Samuel Leach (a boatbuilder) and Jonathan Becket (a shipwright) and that is the last research deed of the Southern End.The Northern end remained in the Murray family until 1814 when it was purchased by Jonathan Andrew, a trader, for $150 (same person who bought 1/3 of the Southern End in 1811???).  ...

A Salem MA home buyer should receive a brochure, Home Inspectors Facts for Consumers Sheet, at the time of the signing of the first written contract to purchase. A standard home inspection in Massachusetts is a visual examination of the physical structure and major interior systems of a residential building consisting of one to four dwelling units. It should be understood that there are certain risks inherent in the purchase of property and a home inspection is inherently limited in its scope and depth. The information gained from home inspection conforming to the Massachusetts Home Inspector Standards of Practice may reduce some of those risks, but the home inspection is not intended to provide the client with protection from all of the risks involved. Good Mexican food is hard to find on the North Shore, No Longer!  The Howling Wolf Taqueria located across Derby Street from the Central Fire Station is a needed and great addition to Salem's growing selection of "to-die-for" restaurants.  This amazing eatery has an upbeat atmosphere with lots of bright colors, high ceilings, paintings, great music and friendly service.   It's a perfect Mexican South West style taqueria with no tablecloths, self service, and great prices.  A Carne Deshebrada Burrito (shredded beef in a spicy tomato sauce) comes with rice, beans, cheese and a choice of salsas all for only $6.75 and that price certainly should leave room in your budget for one of their great white sangrias.  The Green Chile Chicken Stew also for $6.75 is a huge bowl-full perfect to take t...

Salem MA Foreclosures, Short Sales and Bank Owned Homes for Sale Purchasing a home at a Salem MA foreclosures auction has many risks to a potential buyer and in most cases the bank will bid and take possession of the property at auction. The property is then referred to as bank owned, REO (real estate owned) or foreclosed property. A home owner may attempt a "short sale" whereby the bank agrees to accept less than the mortgage balance based on the owner's hardship and financial status. Obtaining approval can be a long and difficult process. Additionally, there is no assurance that the lender will accept an offer at or above the listed price. Bank-owned and short sale listings are often marketed with a real estate agent and placed in the Massachusetts Multiple Listing Service (to ensure ...

With respect to the expert opinions of many, I do not think Salem will see the same depressed economy in the upcoming months many other markets will. Vacancy is currently very low in the retail sector, and we are barely into the spring months! Office space is a different story. There are several vacancies in and around downtown. With the addition of the new courthouse I hope to see that change. Many of the retailers I have spoken with are extremely encouraged! Investments still maintain their great values, specifically in the Salem Point area. One should expect a true 9% cap when analyzing property values. If you are interested in the Salem market at any capacity, I consider myself an expert in the Salem, Beverly & Danvers MA markets. Please feel free to email me through www.BrianDapice...

Thinking of relocating back to Mass, Well You are not alone. The trend now is returning to the home State, Florida used to have 10.000 plus people moving into the State a week, Now that trend has reversed, twice as many people are leaving than are arriving, Where are the going---the answer is back home or at least to the area they know, WHY--Because they can buy more house for the money, for example when they sold up to 4 years ago they sold for top dollar, now when they come back they can find deals with up to 50% of the sale price from the time they left, this of course equals a gain. Also there is no capital gains Tax to worry about as you only have to live in the home you own for 2 out of 5 years to take advantage of this tax break. Also another big reason Baby Boomers are returning...
